Having toured throughout Vietnam, this book struck a chord with me. It's funny to read about the train journey to sapa and being woken by loud partiotic music blasted through the train, just as I remember. Great recipes and a wonderful book. Get the secrets of the red lantern to go with this, both are excellent.
Just as in his show, the book is laid-out as part-travelogue and part-cookbook. The descriptions of his travels come across as very vivid and the recipes are generally on the simple side. You'll probably need to hit an Asian import market for the ingredients, but most don't require a lot beyond a handful of southeast-Asian staples.
