This book takes us to New Orleans, some time after Dassas Cormier has settled in his home town of Marshall's Bayou. I like how his promise to his nephew Frank to bring him to New Orleans becomes an opportunity for another mystery, but in a different setting.

Anyway, Dassas' friend Cherry, an exotic dancer, has been murdered, and Dassas' former partner doesn't think they have the right guy for the crime. With Frank in town with Dassas and with Dassas no longer part of the New Orleans' police force
