I loved this book for so many reasons, but the main reason was because the hero was Hispanic. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love and adore men of all races, backgrounds, accents what have you but it’s not often that I read a character that is of the same background as me, someone I can relate too and understand his slang and super sexy words when spoken. Gawd, it truly makes me melt right off my chair!

With that said, this book rocked it. Not only was Simon super hot and oh-so tortured but Sage, th

I really enjoyed the first installment of this series and immensely enjoyed this book. I still think the romance aspect is a little lacking but I love, love the world Ware has built.

This book is about Simon Japp who is truly an outsider. He was an outsider in his life before the global disaster all but obliterated the Earth, and when he awakes 50 years later to this post-apocalyptic world he is the outsider among the other men who also experienced this mysterious Rip Van Winkle number. I'm alway

Second book of this series and I'm still in awe with the world that Ms. Ware created. The romance is better than the first one, at least I can "feel" the attraction between Simon and Sage from the early chapters (for book #1, I think I waited untill past 100 pages?). Simon is a kind of hero that I like in a book. Quiet, reserved, yet deadly. He is one good example of the "tortured" hero for me. Love his ability by the way (which makes me wonder about Wyatt's and Fence's, as well!) Then Sage, my ...more

Envy Chronicles Book Two

Simon and Sage must go to Sage's homeplace to find information left behind by Remington Truth. The catch, Falling Creek is a settlement bent on repopulating the devastated world by strict breeding policies. Sage must be married to return and avoid being thrust upon some man with who-knows-how-many other wives. During their stay, Simon reveals that he gained a power in the Sedona caves as well. Sage also discovers his past when a Stranger recognizes him from the past.

I really enjoyed this book. Again, this surprises me as I'm not usually into post-apocalyptic genres.

For me, this book had a complete storyline to it; We not only see into each of the main characters pasts, but they are each confronted with it in different ways.
Throw in a sort of love triangle to create more tension and possible future scenarios, a wild trip into a crazy cult like settlement and a run in with the mysterious strangers, and you've got yourself another great book! Not to mention th

No sooner did I finished the first book in the Envy Chronicles then I immediately dove into Embrace the Night Eternal. It’s just as exciting, if not more than, the first book. Book one was all about ‘OMG what happened!’ for the five guys from the past. Book two feels like a aftershock. How did we get here and how we survive? The who/what’s/why’s are keeping me up all night reading.

Simon and Sage. Why am I not surprised they end up together. They both have pasts they would rather forget. Both as

Embrace the Night Eternal

The world has changed forever. Five men have come from the past with supernatural powers. Simon Japp was a hitman, bodyguard, and killer. But in this new world, he’s learning a new way. Sage hides out among her computers rather than face the disdain of the town. As these two come together, passion ignites. Simon can’t resist Sage’s love. She sees him as more than his past.
I enjoyed this story much more than the first in the series. Ms. Ware has created a uniq

Being book two in a series, and having the basic background set up already, I was able to get into Embrace the Night Eternal quicker than Beyond the Night. After finding out that the zombie-like gangas aren’t calling for ruuuuth but in fact calling for Remington Truth, the Resistance knows that they need to find Truth and how he’s linked to the Change and the Strangers.

A tip leads the group to believe there may be answers found in Falling Creek, a settlement

Endowed with the ability to cloak himself in invisibility, Simon swears to assist the citizens of Envy in their struggle against the Strangers. Together with Sage Corrigan, the resistance’s resident computer geek, Simon travels to the polygamist settlement of Falling Creek to search for the man who may hold the key to saving humanity from the Strangers,

Simon is the hero this time. He's one of the guys who came out of a cave 50 years after the world was catastrophically changed. Simon spent his former life was a bodyguard (read enforcer/thug) for the mob. He sees this as a way to start over and be the man he's always wanted to be. You know the one who gets the girl and deserves her. Well he's having a hard time with that since the girl in question, Sage, seems to already have a boyfriend and Simon learned long ago to never poach someone elses g ...more

The hero of this book is Simon, one of the guys who came out of a cave 50 years after the world went through a catastrophic change, having not aged at all and having picked up some special powers. Simon was a bad ass bodyguard/enforcer for a mob kingpin in his former life. While most of the guys mourn the loss of family and friends, Simon sees this as a second chance to have a better life where he doesn't have to kill and intimidate. He starts to think he might have a chance to be with the beaut ...more

I'm glad I have a three book minimum on new series (or new authors), otherwise I would have missed out on a great book. Where the first in the series fell flat, the second more than makes up for it and really sets the stage for the long run of the series. Almost as if this was the book that Colleen Gleason, aka Joss Ware, wanted to write but felt obligated build us a world that would suit this love story.

From the general description: "From the raging fires, five men emerge with extraordinary new

What a difference one book can make! After lukewarm feelings for Beyond the Night, I wasn't sure I wanted to read this book... especially since the lead character, Simon, didn't really spark much interest for me. But I'm really glad I did. Unlike the first installment in the Envy Chronicles, I felt real emotion for the characters --a connection I just didn't have the first time around.

The concept for the series: the world is 50 years past a near-apocalypse. Many of the survivors are living in w

I enjoyed this one much more than I did the first in the series, I think because the first one was mainly focused on building up information about the new world and how it came to be it was a bit harder to get into, where as with this second installment you get right into the story without having to learn anything to understand what is going on.

Sage as a great character and I found her an easy character to connect with. Simon is just brilliant, he had such deep feelings for Sage but he didn’t w

"I Diari delle Tenebre. Il Bacio della Notte" è il secondo capitolo della serie post apocalittica "The Envy Chronicles" scritta dell'amatissima autrice di urban fantasy per adulti Joss Ware alias Colleen Gleason già conosciuta per la saga The Gardella Vampire Chronicles.

Il Cambiamento, ossia una serie di terremoti, incendi e situazioni climatiche estreme, aveva devastato la civiltà e spazzato via la maggior parte della razza umana del ventunesimo secolo.

embrace-the-night-eternal-envy-chronicles-joss-wareIn the second installment of Joss Ware’s Envy Chronicles we find Sage unexpectedly receiving attention from Theo, who’s making it quite clear that he wants to become more than friends. Sage feels the relationship shifting, but isn’t exactly sure that she likes it. Simon also has a thing for her, but for the most part keeps it under wraps.

But when their search for Remingt

Embrace the Night Eternal is the second book in the Envy Chronicles. Five men were somehow preserved in a cave for 50 years. Simon Japp was one of those men. As he emerged from the cave, the world he once knew no longer existed. Most of the population died and geographically continents and water shifted. Simon and the other men find themselves in a town called Envy. There Simon meets Sage. He and Sage team up to go undercover in another community as a pretend married couple to learn what they ca ...more

I love post-apocalyptic tales, even better when they involve a little love and romance. Which is why I luuuurve this series. This is book two of the series, and an improvement over book one in both story line, flow, and in that the main characters are both more realistic and more sympathetic.

I would like to give it a 5 star, but I just can't. Not because of the story line, which was fun and kind of exciting. Not because of the characters, because Simon is HAWT and Sage is a lovable, klutzy, bra

My Review:
Simon was the odd-man-out from the group of men that emerged from that cave in Sedona after 50 years. He was not part of the hiking group. No, he had gone in there to die. Simon was a bodyguard to a mafia crime boss, addicted to drugs and alcohol, and completely disgusted with where his life had led him. He was being chased by henchmen when he stumbled into the cave and had accepted that he was going to die...in fact, was ready for it

Book two picks up where Beyond the Night (book 1) left off. The settlement of Envy (New Vegas or NV) is where Simon Japp and his four companions have taken up residency. The five men were kept in some type of stasis or coma in the caves of Sedona for the past 50 years. During that time things have changed dramatically and the world they knew is gone. Now the men are helping the residents fight the Strangers who are trying to enslave the remaining humans.

Simon Japp is a hero with a dark past. He'

Simon Japp has a dark past but after the Change years before, when the civilization fairly came to an end, he got a chance to turn a new leaf. Now he's part of a band of guys who fight against the Strangers, a group of deadly immortals who pretty much control this new world and are hell-bent on finding every one of them and killing them. After waking from a fifty-something-year sleep after the Change, he founds himself with a strange power that might just be the thing they need to fight the Stra ...more

When I started with this series, I read it out of order - 4, 1, 2 - and I had a hard time when I started book 1 because I knew some of the big revelations from later books. I got over it, I'll have you know, and I ended up liking book 1, but I think this book is the one that made everything click for me. I don't know if it was the characters in particular (Helllllooooo, Simon!) or whether I stopped trying to figure out how things we were going to find out in book 4 fit into what we were learning ...more
