Normally I am not one to read a historical book. I find some of them to be too filled with flowery language that makes it difficult to enjoy the storyline. The Betrayal is different, I really enjoyed it!

First of all, you don't need to have read the first two books in the series (At The House of The Magician and By Royal Command) to be able to enjoy The Betrayal. I haven't read them, and I don't think that this diminished my reading pleasure at all.

The characters in this book felt very real to me...more

This was found in the corner of the library alone and frankly, no-one knew it. I saw it straight away and picked it up without even thinking about it. You know, one of those kind of automatic reactions like saying Sorry when you make a mistake in French - and much like my French teacher is telling us off for.
Anyway, yeah. This is the third and last in the At The House of The Magican trilogy. And to be honest, the best in my opinion.

I actually really enjoyed this book, mostly probably because I...more

I think this book was pretty good and interesting. Lucy was to travel to England on a mission from the queen. It was a little confusing with some of the characters and the old fashioned words, like "tis". It was an interesting plot; however, I felt that I kept trying to remember important information that was easy to miss. Overall, "The Betrayal" by Mary Hooper, was a decent book, but very hard to understand.

THE BEST BOOK IN THE SERIES! More drama, more action, more romance; an absolutely amazing book. I couldn't help feel annoyed and sorry for Lucy! Every time I flicked the page there was even more drama than the previous page! So heartwarming, romantic, dramatic and just plain lovely! If you like to read good books I would strongly suggest this book! x

My favorite of this trilogy. Lucy knows one of the Queen's ladies-in-waiting is not who she says she is. Tomas doesn't believe her and she tries to discover the truth on her own. Lucy also masquerades as a boy at times in this story.

I was very disappointed with the final book from the trilogy because of the title. It clearly stated 'The Betrayal' but the book doesn't focus on a concept like that which kind of tipped me off.

The characters however are nicely described like my favourate protagonist, Lucy who is very loyal to everyone and is more adventurous in the last book. There were a few twists and turns which surprised me and the ending is satisfyingly sweet.

Again the wording is amazingly put with simple wording and easy-...more

Got sad but also has its good moments too.
The ending hinted at something for Lucy and a certain fool.
Thought that was adorable.
And the cover is pretty.

Mary Hooper creates an immersing story with her immaculate detail. The third of the 'at the house of the magician series' it is an amazing book that we all should read
Julie
It was a great book with a good plot and brilliant characters. An interesting read about Queen Elizabeth from afar. A book about loyalty, friendship and kindness.

I like this author's book. Great historical accuracy, decent plot line, and some romance/intrigue.

Not as good as the other two. There were just some weird parts thrown in and I ended up saying, "this is kind of dumb" a few times. Still love Mary Hooper, but fell short.

A very satisfactory conclusion to this trilogy of historical novels set in and around the household of Dr. John Dee.

I felt Hooper did a wonderful job of capturing the period and it is one I'd certainly recommend.
