This series follows a girl named, you guessed it, Alice. This is an adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, but this Alice isn't as much of a doormat like the orginal tale. She's much more practical and cynical. On top of that, she never even followed the "White Rabbit" into Wonderland in the first place, she was kidnapped. This Wonderland is filled with mostly bishie characters that have to play the roles of this world's classic inhabitants: The White Rabbit, the Hatter, the Queen of Hearts, the Mar...more

Alice Liddell thinks her sister Lorina is everything she herself is not - Lorina is elegant, pretty, sweet and smart, a girl that any guy in the world could love. Any guy. It's really quite depressing. Maybe there is someone in particular that Alice is afraid is in love with her sister?

A twisted take on Alice in Wonderland that is puzzling, but enjoyable. The Country of Hearts characters, much like their Wonderland originals, introduce Alice to an existence that is both absurd and rather brutal. Most of the land's inhabitants walk around armed to the teeth and are literally heartless--a repurposable timepiece, rather than a beating heart, the only thing giving them life. As in the original, Alice's exotic status as an outsider allows her a loophole from most of the rules of th...more
I've been curious about this series for some time. It's a six volume series, but only five volumes were ever released in the US due to Tokyopop going under. Yen Press has since picked up the license, although the volumes won't start to be re-released until next summer.
In the meantime, I picked up the first four volumes that my library has. I was never keen on Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. I wasn't sure what to expect of a manga loosely based on the story. My conclusion is that the story i...more

I don’t even know anymore.
Basically, this is a violent retelling of Alice in Wonderland. Alice Liddell isn’t sure if she’s dreaming or not, but she’s in a strange world where the inhabitants of Wonderland are locked in civil war and just about everyone she meets loves her with a few exceptions. She believes this world is a product of her loneliness. This is a wholly ridiculous story, but I like it for some reason. A fun read - nothing too deep. An odd twist on the Alice in Wonderland story that we're all familiar with. Alice Liddell disappears into what she thinks is a dream filled with bizarre characters. All characters are either human or human/animal mixes (e.g., the Cheshire Cat is a punk boy with cat ears and tail). I thought the suggestion that this is actually a world that is a product of Alice's own deepest desires was actually pretty unique and interesting. Imagine being confronted with your deep...more
This series is fucking insane. Seriously. It's Alice in Wonderland, except that every character (including the rabbit!!) is a hot, hot guy who is obsessively in love with Alice. They are all rather stalkery, actually, and Alice wants nothing to do with any of them, except the Hatter, who is a mafia boss at war with the Queen of Hearts and the Amusement Park (it's a 3-way battle royale), and who coincidentally looks exactly like the ex-boyfriend who dumped her for another girl. Alice thinks she's...more
Ah, wait a wonderful start, definitely better than I was expecting!
I must say, I only read it because of the promise of bishonen males (of which there were plenty ><) but it is really intriguing. It took me a while to realize Alice created that world, a world were she was wanted. But once I did I liked it a lot more, seeing as how I've always been jealous of my sister. Not enough to dream up a world like Alice did though.
Plus, the cast is great! Alice is not a Bella (weak), Alice !9th (sn...more

Alice Liddell is kidnapped and taken to Wonderland by the White Rabbit who has become a boy with rabbit ears named Peter White. Peter forces her to drink an unknown medicine by kissing her. Alice then meets other Wonderland creatures who are mostly beautiful boys. And, of course, they're all crazy. There are three regions and they're at war. Alice (and we the reader) is not exactly sure why. And a bunch of other nonsense things happen, but of course, it's Wonderland and Alice is dreaming.

Fellow humans looking for a doujinshi Alice In Wonderland.
HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY for those of you fans of Heart no Kuni no Alice, did you know there's a movie for it?
WHOOOOOOOOO--yeah, it's not released in America yet. (Jeez, I love you Japan, but living in America and wanting anime and manga as SOON as they come out sucks! We have to wait. BOO.
Then again, even if I lived in Japan, I wouldn't be able to read or understand any of the Japanese manga and anime produced there, so I guess it doesn't matter anyway.
But GAH! I should know a little Japanese!...more

This series is an interesting take on the classic "Alice in Wonderland" storyline and characters. Though this is just the first volume, I can already tell that this new version is going to be drastically different from the classic tale, and to be honest, that doesn't really bother me. What I love from Alice in Wonderland is the characters, and I'm looking forward to seeing completely different sides to them.

This manga series was actually rather good,I guess it was based off of a video game.Anyway, all in all it was good, however the spinoffs "Alice in the country of Clover" were a little hard to follow because I wasn't sure if they were continuing where Hearts left off or if it was an alternate ending type of thing. It's about-obviously-Alice going to Wonderland, though not in the conventional way of falling down the rabbit hole.Instead she is kidnapped by the White Rabbit because he is madly in love w...more
Alice gets kidnapped by a rabbit who, once they reach wonderland, turns into a guy with bunny ears. His name is Peter White and he is quite madly in love with Alice. In fact, almost every guy in Wonderland eventually falls in love with Alice. As she explores this dream world, things (guns) and information (rules to Wonderland's game) are revealed to her. She is thrust into the middle of a three-way territorial war and she can't leave Wonderland until the game is complete.

What if Wonderland was not what we thought of us. What if it was a realm that depended on games in order to survive. For Alice Liddell, falling down that rabbit hole was not a good idea, now was it her choice. Peter, White, the White Rabbit, found Alice asleep in a garden and kidnapped her. Once in Wonderland, he forced Alice to drink a potion that would require her to stay in Wonderland until the liquid regenerates itself. How will she do this, she must meet a variety of characters. Although it...more
I thought this was a fun manga. It's a modern take on Alice in Wonderland.
Alice comes across as likeable, at least in my mind. She finds herself in a strange place and tries to make her way the best she can. The various powers of Wonderland (the Queen, the mafia, the amusement park...) are often at odds with each other, but she visits them and tries to get along. She's kind to those who are kind to her but she doesn't hold back her opinions. There are many, many, young men/rabbit-men/cat-men et...more

I enjoyed it more than I expected (although my expectations were pretty low to begin with). When it comes to manga, my consumption has been mostly shonen action so this is the first manga I've read of its kind. The most interesting bit I took away is how each character or land represents actual desires and insecurities in Alice's real life. I find myself frequently guessing at what every symbolic gesture from the male characters may represent in Alice's real life. Are you getting over an ex? Vyi...more
After the first "chapter" I wasn't sure if I would like this...but I kept reading. And the more I read the more interested I was. By the end of the first volume I was pretty sure I would keep reading on to the next volumes. If nothing else I'll read the second one.

This is a review for the series as a whole.
An interesting spin on the Alice in Wonderland story.
At first it all seems light hearted and like the average harem-style manga (where a girl find herself surrounded by adoring males who all want her) but the characters are a great deal crazier than the average male and as the story progresses there is the promise of darker elements both in the Country of Hearts and back in Alice's homeworld.

Note: review is for the series up to where I've read so far (volume 3).
I'll admit, I'm a sucker for anything derived in some way from Alice in Wonderland. The series is an adaption of a dating sim game for girls, and like any manga or anime based on a dating sim, they have to pick one storyline and one love interest out of the game's many. The storyline is pretty good, but for the love interest they seem to have gone with Blood, who is an interesting character, just not really the kind of guy I...more

Typically, I don't much care for alternative versions of one of my favorite childhood stories. However, this take on Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is purely original, intriguing, mysterious, and compelling with a hint of sexiness. There are dangerous, flirtatious consequences hidden in this plot. Alice's character has more substance as well, trying hard to rationalize and bring a sense of justice to the world around her, which does have some reason within it despite being "Wonderland." Both A...more
I'm a sucker for rewritten faerie tales and classics, so I was immediately drawn to the idea of...yes, another...retelling of Alice's adventures in Wonderland. This version has a twist to that I've never seen before, with a new geographical and political layout of Wonderland filled with classic characters who are transformed into mob bosses and punks. The story felt a little forced, but I'll forgive that for now since this volume is attempting to introduce the many parts of a new fantasy world a...more
So far this series strikes me as way bizarre. Alice gets dragged through a hole in the ground and forced to drink medicine to become part of the game. She is convinced she is dreaming and can't believe how superficial/strange her subconcious is. I like the story line but the large amounts of seemingly random violence (I don't think they are random though, I have a feeling I just don't get it yet) are kind of throwing me off. I want to read a few more volumes and see how I feel afterwards.

Alice in the Country of Hearts is a fantasy manga that puts an interesting spin on the classic tale of Alice in Wonderland. With a darker twist on it (don't let the lightly colored and playful looking cover fool you!) and a bit of a romantic subplot in it, it was a different read from what I normally do enjoy in manga and actually pretty clever at some parts.

Another manga overcomes a brain fracturing premise to be fairly entertaining. Alice is easy to like, although much of the Wonderland remains unexplained after the first volume. Really, I'd think there would be more connections by then, but what do I know.
While everyone in Wonderland is or will be in love with Alice eventually (wut), it seems there will be a reason for this effect, and it might not be entirely stupid. I suppose this doesn't sound like a glowing recommendation. But I would recomme...more

Now here's a fun spin on a classic tale. Alice has been more or less kidnapped by Peter White, a strange dude with bunny ears who makes her drink from a bottle and tells her she now has to play the game to go home. Unsure what the game entails, Alice sets off on a colorful journey through a new version of Wonderland where the Mad Hatter is a mafioso and the Cheshire cat has a considerably "punk" aesthetic. All Alice can tell for sure is that this is somehow a dream (but is it hers?) and that eve...more

Loosely based on Alice in Wonderland, a young girl (Alice) is kidnapped and trapped in a bizarre Wonderland filled with handsome, dangerous young men who are all mysteriously attracted to her! Pretty typical manga storyline, but I like Alice a lot. She believes she's dreaming and is appalled that her dreams seem to reflect how shallow she is. I think a lot of young women could relate to the appeal of a dream world where you are the most important person. Rated for older teens (16+) but nothing s...more
