The first time she spoke to him was at midnight.
Seven-year-old Autumn Backman needed a hero. When she saw Special Agent Dillon Savich on TV after he'd brought down bank robbers in a Georgetown bank, she knew she'd found him. She called Savich, but she didn't use the phone.

They were burying dead people in my daddy's grave . . . they're coming after us. Please help me.

Coulter's books over the years have gone from interesting and good depth of character to light, not very suspenseful, not very deep characters, reading.

They are entertaining. But lately she's trying to add in more of the paranormal and she just doesn't quite make it believable. It's usually OK right up to the big suspense scenes and then falls apart. It end's ok... it's just those few chapters where something's "off". Like she's trying to hard to tie up the threads.

3th book in the FBI series that is more suspense than romance.

Savich gets a telepathic message from a 7 year-old girl just as he's falling asleep. She'd seen him on TV and knows he's a hero and she needs help, so tried to reach him. Her father's relatives have just recently learned of her existence and all are gifted with various powers to mess with someone else's mind. And they want her in their fold and will stop at nothing to grab her, even though she's surrounded by deputies and th...more

Eh . . .

Although I like the main plot concept, the sub-plot just seems pointless. I'm wondering if the bank robber angle will somehow end up dovetailing with the child-kidnapping story. In the meantime, it's just annoying.

In my opinion, the author's poorly written and disjointed style is off-putting. At one point I felt like I was trying to watch a scratched-up DVD that kept skipping, leaving out big chunks of the story. I'm particularly disenchanted with the inauthentic ...more

For experienced FBI Special Agent Dillon Savich to find himself on the floor of a bank during a bank robbery was a bit of luck, good and bad. He was able to alert his partner and wife Special Agent Lacey Sherlock of the robbery in progress as well as be there to help take down the bad guys and girls. While the sole survivor of the gang was in the hospital, she was able to escape with the help of the get-a-way driver. While trying to figure out their next move, Dillon received a message from a se...more

I didn't like this book as well as I normally like Catherine Coulter's books. The story was good once I got into it, but the premise took some time to accept. I used this to fulfill one of the tasks for my reading challenge, which was to read a book and "cast" the movie. Here is my cast:

Sherlock: Marcia Cross

Savich: Matthew Fox

Lissy: Jessica Stroup (Silver, 90210)

Victor: Stanislav Ianevski (Viktor Krum, Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fir...more

A seven year old girl, Autumn Backman, contacts FBI Special Agent Dillon Savich after seeing a show about him on TV. She is able to communicate with Savach telepathically.

In Titusville, VA. Autumn runs away and hides in the home of Sheriff Ethan Merriweather. She tells Ethan that a man who goes by the name of Blessed is after her and her mother, Joanna and warns Ethan not to look into Blessed's eyes because he can control a person's thoughts once they do look him in...more

Savich and Sherlock are back with two cases on their plates. In the first Savich is in his local bank when four masked gunmen rushed in firing automatic weapons. Savich keys in his cell to call Sherlock and leaves the line open. I really don't want to say more here, but the out come is that Savich and a bank guard become the target of a teenage who is determined to get revenge for the death of her mother in the holdup. At the same time Savich, while sleeping gets a dream?, vision? ,wahtever f...more

Savich and Sherlock are involved in two cases again. One had them chasing young bank robbers and the other includes a paranormal communication between Savich and a seven year old girl. There were some holes to the story and really how many times can the married FBI agents end up getting shot or injured. And how many times do their suspects get to escape to move the plot forward. Or have a personal grudge against the agents so they have to try and get revenge before they just escape. It all ...more

I had a real love hate thing with this book. I LOVED the premise - I HATED the writing. I kept wondering, "Who says that?" or How convenient! This book had great characters, and I really liked the woo-woo connection between the FBI agent and the little girl. I loved the mind-manipulating bad guys! I despised the utter banality of the conversation amongst said characters. The action drew me along to the conclusion, but the vapidity made me want to scream in frustration. This could ha...more

I've decided not to read the final 5 or 6 books in Ms. Coulter's bibliography.

In Knockout, it seemed like she got sick of the story at the most tense scene and decided to wrap it up in a 5 pg epilogue - very disappointing

OH NO - the adorable 7 yr old who's been the focus of the whole story gets shot in the chest... and let's wrap it up in the living room three months later.

seriously - that was it. Not only that, but there were some pretty serious plot holes. H...more

Two tough cases in this story. First Dillon is at the bank on personal business when the "Gang of Four" come in to rob it. Three of the 4 are killed one arrested but threatens to kill both Dillon and the bank guard! Later Dillon is contacted telepathically by a little girl who needs her help! He and Sherlock go back and forth from one case to the other however the e-copy of the book I downloaded ended in the middle of the epilogue (tried downloading it 3 times and couldn't get thos...more

CHEESY. From the characters, to their names, to the way they spoke, to the plot, to the relationships.... cheesy. Every time the main dude's cell rings, she makes a note to tell you what song it is. Why? Who cares? Why is an FBI dude's cell ringing the theme from Titanic when his boss calls, anyway? And I think this chic knows about as much about the FBI as I know about dental instruments-- I know it when I see it, but I can't talk about it with any sort of intelligence. It was like a bad...more

I totally misjudged the content of this book. Thought it would be rich in DC setting, but it wasn't. Dillon and Sherlock's abode could have been in Bayonne as easily as Georgetown. It was that sunset-over-the-Lincoln-Memorial that threw me off.

That said, I enjoyed Coulter's ability to pace the story. I found the telepathy between Dillon and the little girl a bit much, and I wondered if the psycho bank robbing teeny-bopper would end up somehow connected to the creepy cult, but no deal...more

I have to give this one star because I did not finish it. I got to about chapter 33 when I turned off my ipod in disgust. The first few books in the FBI thriller series were pretty good but its gone downhill to the point where I won't be picking up another one. The story was slow and too well padded to make it very interesting. It was ok at first, had the potential to be engage me. Then about where I stopped the Mom started doing the TSTL thing and all these brilliant FBI guys, sheriff and dep...more

audio version was overacted and over dramatic. The woman was particularly bad.

The story itself was too long and repetitive. I liked the overall concept but what the characters do is inconsistent and unintelligent. Even within the context of the story some of the actions were stupid - I kept thinking - "you gotta be kidding. nobody would actually do that."

This is my first Catherine Coulter book and it may be my last. I have heard her other books are better but I'...more

Savich and Sherlock are back and in fine form as they deal with amoral bank robbers and a mysterious cult with telepathic members who also lack any conscience. A young girl reaches out to Savich from across the country using only her mind and he must strive to find her and protect her from the evil relatives who seek to entrap her in their evil hierarchy while trying to keep his own family safe from the insanity that threatens to destroy them. Replete with Coulter's extraordinary characters an...more

I usually like books in this series but #13 was a bust for a couple reasons. The topic was pyschic powers, being able to control people and being able to communicate telephathically not things I totally believe in. And the other reason - there were 2 readers, a man and a woman that did the voices. And one of the main characters was a little girl who was 7 years old and they gave her a loud, whiney , annoying voice that drove my nuts. Maybe it would have been better if I had read the book instead...more

I have no idea why I finished listening to this book-- probably because I really enjoyed previous books in the series.

I didn't like the audio production. This is one of the few times that I really thought the characters (particularly Sherlock) didn't sound right.

The story never worked for me, some of the scenes were unintentionally funny, I never felt attached to any of the characters (and that included the ones I "knew" from previous books and the little girl,...more

Yes indeedy, I do like Catherine Coulter's 'FBI' series starring agents with grit, smarts, a kicka$$ computer, humor, and the occasional 'gifts'. "Knock Out" is her latest novel set in the world of Savich and Sherlock and it is...a knock out.

This time Savich and Sherlock are working two cases at the same time. The first involves a gang of vicious bank robbers who kill security guards for no reason other than 'fun'. The second involves a special girl named Autumn, who fir...more

I didn't hate this book but I didn't exactly like it either. I usually like murder mystery thrillers, but this rubbed me the wrong way because the detective ended up being telepathic. The two different cases covered in this book had nothing to do with one another, and it seemed to interrupt the flow to jump back and forth between the two. Plus, the pov seemed to switch all the time, sometimes mid-chapter, which really just threw me off. This is the 13th book in a series, so maybe that's why I d...more

Another great entry in her FBI Series from Catherine Coulter. Her two main characters Savich & Sherlock are at it again solving not one but two cases that have them cris-crossing the country in an attempt to nab the bad guys & girls. One involves a gang of four and a bank robbing crime spree and the other a little girl with a special gift that her estranged uncles and grandmother want to kidnap and use for devious purposes. I found this to be a page turner from beginning to end. Even to the ...more

I found this book in a pile of used books I had bought for my school library. I'm not sure how it got there, but as I have enjoyed the Catherine Coulter books I read previously, I looked forward to reading this one over Spring Break. Unfortunately it just didn't work for me. I was drawn into the book but the engagement just didn't last. I couldn't buy into the supernatural aspects at all. I cheated and read the ending when I was halfway through and left it at that.

I've now read several books by this author and I do enjoy them. Coulter's last lines, though, have not ceased to leave me disappointed. I finish her novels and end up feeling something akin to having finished a really great restaurant meal (ambience, company, service, everything's a 10), and then the waiter disappears with the credit card and leaves the table hanging for 30 minutes, unable to continue the evening's festivities. The meal was still wonderful, but now what?

There are a lot of attention grabbing details in this book: a seven year old girl that can communicate telepathically, a new romance budding between two of the characters, bank robbers, an occult clan that is hidden in underground headquarters -- and one look into the eyes of "Blessed" or his brother "Grace" and you will be "stymied"!!
In many ways an entertaining book that is strictly a fantasy with no thoughtful enlightenment.

Another good book in the FBI series of Dillon Savich & Lacey Sherlock. I'm a little nervous about what Coulter might do next with these 2 characters. She seems to have Savich questioning his mortality more. I hope she doesn't get it into her mind to kill off one of these characters!

Okay, I just finished listening to this on Playaway (after I read the book a couple of weeks ago). Still, a great story -- the readers were fabulous! There are two stories being told in this book that do n...more

I just finished this book. I'll admit I didn't like the first few pages, but I decided to keep reading the book, and I'm glad I did. You have to read that to know who a few of the characters are.
Anyway, it involves a lot of psychic stuff, like how people can control another person's mind, or how someone can talk to someone through their mind.
Overall, this was a really good book. Even though it is the 13th book in the series, you don't need to read all of the other books first. I ...more

This was a good - quick read. It had me guessing until the end... however you kind of knew (spoiler alert) that things would turn out ok! I liked the characters - I probably should read the first in the series to get more of an in depth background on them however. It's the perfect book for a happy-ish ending, reading at the beach, and has a good 'thrill' to it. I probably would give this more of a 3.5.

I've been reading these FBI thrillers since the first one came out - and I think it's time to move on from them. The first few were great, but as time moves on with them and more.. paranormal things happen (reminding me greatly of the X-Files) it just gets harder and harder to fall into the story like it used to.

Still, an easy read and enjoyable if you like that sort of thing.

Great book! Dillon and Sherlock are back! I love this series. If you've never read this series get the first one. I won't give too much away - Dillon has recovered from being shot in last book -- and is once again involved in two seperate cases! A crazy family with secrets are after a little girl who calls Dillon and he comes to the rescue along with wife Sherlock.
