Dig the book. It's written in pretty plain prose, and if you get the Peter Petro translation it reads pretty smoothly. It's basically a tale about a young Czech man named Milan in love with a girl who studies at a university. He can't go to university himself because his father was a communist, and the Czech police are in effect making him pay for his father's sins. In attempting to deal with his frustration, he gets married, trades jobs, ends up in prison, has an affair...the whole nine yards....more
