She's an outlaw.

He's a preacher.

Both are in need of a miracle.

Sarah Prescott has never known a respectable life. Just a hardscrabble childhood and brothers who taught her to shoot first and ask questions later.

Justin Wells left Boston in disgrace, heading out alone on the dusty trail to Texas. But when the once-respected clergyman encounters a feisty redhead in handcuffs w...more

A LADY LIKE SARAH is the first book I have read from Margaret Brownley. I was pleasantly pleased.

Sarah Prescott, is guilty by association. Her band of brothers have made a name for themselves by robbing the Wells Fargo stages as payback for the murder of their father. Caught by a U.S. Marshall, Sarah is on her way to be hanged for the death of a Wells Fargo passenger. When she and the Marshall are ambushed in the middle of nowhere, she finds herself cuffed to a dying man with no chance of rescue...more

I loved A Lady Like Sarah by Margaret Brownley! The story is about a lady named Sarah Prescott, the funny thing about the title is Sarah is far from a lady!! Her parents died when she was a young girl and so she was raised by her wild, revenge seeking older brothers. They didn't teach her how to be a lady but how to defend herself against the harsh world and shoot, lie and sneak around. Sarah soon runs to a preacher by the name of Justin Wells who saves her numerous times and she ends up saving...more

What does it take for a woman to be a real lady? Is it the way she speaks? The clothes she wears? Or is it the depth of her character? When Pastor Justin Wells first meets Sarah Prescott, there's nothing ladylike about her. Her language is coarse, she dresses like a man, and she's in handcuffs with an injured US Marshall. Forced to travel together, Sarah and Justin forge a strong friendship, despite the initial friction between them. When friendship turns to love, Sarah must trust God for a mira...more

From the first moment I saw this book, the cover and the title just grabbed me and I couldn't wait to read it... the only problem was that I saw it 3 months before it was released so I have had to wait awhile, but this book was worth the wait!

Here we have an original plot with some really fun characters and there are enough twists and turns to keep you interested throughout the entire book and I never felt like it got routine at all. Sarah is a Prescott. Prescotts rob stagecoaches, but they neve...more

This is my first ever Christian fiction novel and I really enjoyed it a lot. In the past Christian fiction hasn't really been something that I thought would "trip my trigger" so I just avoided that section at all costs in the bookstore. I'm glad to say that I was WRONG about the genre.

The story is about two characters who are trying to find God in unlikely places and circumstances. Sarah Prescott is an outlaw and a member of THE Prescott gang, who has always dreamed of having a "normal" life an...more

Margaret Brownley has done it again! A Lady Like Sarah is fabulous! After reading the first book I had ever read from Margaret (Dawn Comes Early) I rushed and order A Lady Like Sarah, and I wasn't disappointed! Sarah is a real and different character; unlike any other heroine you will ever read about! I absolutely LOVE this book and the twists presented within! Suspense, adventure, and near death experiences! This book is awesome! :) I highly recommend this book (and anything Margaret writes), y...more

This is a cute a fun historical Christian romance. It started a little slow for me, but by the middle, I was moving right along in the book. Sarah and Justin were both wonderful characters that showed a lot of depth and growth throughout the story. They were also real characters--not overdone in one way or the other. Justin was a preacher, but he was also a man and not holier-than-thou as some preachers are written. Sarah was an outlaw, but also an innocent young woman.

There are plenty of Chris...more

boring. i requested it at the library after seeing the title and after reading some positive reivews. i was pretty disappointed. the catch line, "rocky creek romance" should have been a red flag. a lot of things happened in the story, but nothing that was interesting. i think there was supposed to be some suspense. it read like a recipe book. two love interests with nothing in common. add the old west. sprinkle in some indians and a dollop of orphaned baby. just before pouring in floured pan, th...more

This is an awesome christan book! An awesome weatern book! And an awesome romance book! This is a good moral book that you can laugh with and experience the ups and down of Sarah, who is an western outlaw and Justin, a preacher who loves god and possibly Sarah?? and then throw in an orphan baby to take care of and you get a book you cant put down!! You need to read this book!!!! If it sounds interesting to you ask me to borrow it after my mom and sis get done reading this amazing book that i rea...more

Let me start out by saying that the romance level in this book is higher than many others in the genre, not as far as inappropriate content (there's none), but just quantity of scenes. You can simply feel the tension and longing the two lead characters have; their feelings are alive in such a way that the characters themselves simply jump off the pages.

Often times when historical novels have a female lead intended to be feisty or wild, generally I find their "eccentric" behavior to be somewhat f...more

Summary: Preacher Justin Wells left Boston for Texas in disgrace. Sarah Prescott is wanted along with her robber brothers. The upright preacher and the outlaw meet under bad circumstances and journey toward Rocky Creek with mishaps, adventure, love, and grace.

Thoughts: I won the second book, A Suitor for Jenny, from Goodreads so I thought I'd give this one a chance.

I had the privilege of interviewing Margaret Brownley, on our radio show "Kingdom Highlights", for her new book, "A Lady Like Sarah" Book One in her Rocky Creek Romance series published by Thomas Nelson. When I was growing up besides cartoons on Saturday mornings I had a station that showed the old serials. At the end of each chapter the hero would get into a jam that signaled his death and then the following week we would see how he got out of it. In "A Lady Like Sarah" Ms. Brownley has her cha...more

This story was awesome! It remind me of Leather and Lace by Diann Mills in that the heroine was an outlaw. However, the similarities ended there. The plot was entirely different. I loved how the hero in the story was a preacher. What a fantastic way to set up a way to show the reader true Christianity.

The inspirational storytelling by Ms. Brownley was superbly written. I was blown away by how powerfully the subtle spiritual messages were brought out in the novel. The entire story rang true to m...more

Well I'll be. I am for certainly unsure if I can say enough good things about the book "A Lady Like Sarah" or my new favorite author Margaret Brownley (and no it is not because of her elegant name). As many of you that read my reviews know, my favorite Christian Historical Romantic Comedy author of American west novels is Mary Connealy... well I can honestly say that Margaret Brownley rates right up there with this book and I am ecstatically (is that a word?) excited for more. Clean, christian romance. I bought this book because it came before another book that I won and wanted to read. I did not like the las bit of the book when the preacher thought it was a good idea to tell everyone that the little baby was Sarah's baby. First of all, is still was a lie, and secondly, then wouldn't people think she was a hussy as well as a stage coach robber? It just didn't make sense to me, and I thought it was plaing dumb.

This book was a fun read, and exactly what I was looking for when I saw "Christian Western Romance novel." I grew to like the characters, and I loved the research Brownley incorporated into the plot line. A preacher and an outlaw? I'd say an interesting and fun match!

A lot of the situations Justin and Sarah got into ended way too soon. It seemed like they would arise, quickly disappear, the pair would give credit to God for watching over them. So while I expected faith to be incorporated, too of...more

I really enjoyed my first Margaret Brownley book, "A Suitor for Jenny" that I picked up this book, even though I wasn't attracted to the plot summary. I tried to like it, but the plot really wasn't for me, it wasn't my kind of book. I also was sort of oversaturated by all the western/prairie books I had been reading at the time. Maybe I'll re-read this one later.

When disgraced preacher Justin Wells is sent to Rocky Creek, TX, he stumbles across all sorts of trouble: a dying US Marshall, a baby who is the only survivor of an attack on a wagon train, and a member of the notorious Prescott gang. It's more than his Boston upbringing and seminary training can handle. Set in Missouri 1879.

Pretty good. There are a couple of very funny lines in the book and some I wanted to underline they were so appropriate to me life. My favorite line goes something like: It hadn't rained for so long the bushes were following the dogs.
Overall, I think the story lacks depth but it's an easy, enjoyable read.

I thought A Lady Like Sarah was a great read. Sarah Prescott is stubborn and hard headed like me. I liked reading this book a lot. So far this is the first book I have read by Margaret Brownly and based on this one I look forward to reading more by her.

A Lady Like Sarah was pretty good I enjoyed all the characters... I just didn't like Sarah's western accent because she says ain't a lot but I guess I'm not a Western kind of person it was just not my cup of tea but other than that it was good.

This is a wonderful book full of humor, romance, and faith. Sarah Prescott is far from a lady, but that doesn't deter Reverend Justin Wells. He's more concerned with her spiritual health than whether she knows how to be a proper lady. As Justin and Sarah make the difficult journey to Texas, where there's an angry sheriff waiting for Sarah, they both must pray that justice will prevail.

I loved this book! It had me laughing in some places and fighting tears in others. Throughout the story, I kept...more

This book is a keeper. Loved the story of faith and redemption with a good helping of humor thrown in. I laughed at times and had a lump in my throat at others. Ms Brownley is an excellent writer who gives a reader just what she wants.

A Lady Like Sarah is a light-hearted romance with an unconventional heroine and an out-of-his-element hero. It's a fun book that will make you laugh and challenge you to trust God even when circumstances are at their worst.

My first ebook check out from the library. The library is going to lose a lot of money on me cause now I won't have to pay anymore fines. YEAH. Last one paid yesterday for $5.20.

Thrills, mystery, suspense, romance: Margaret penned it all. Nothing wrong with this, except Margaret happened to be writing for the church newsletter. After making the church picnic read like a Grisham novel, her former pastor took her aside and said, "Maybe God's calling you to write fiction."

Margaret wasn't sure that was true, but she wasn't about to take chances. She now has more than 28 novel...more
