Alexander Bell is a young chiropractor who enjoys his work, drives a nice car, and has great friends. Ric Saunders is a former high-school bully who made Alexander’s life hell eight years ago and unexpectedly seeks treatment at the clinic where Alex and his father work.

I was pleasantly surprised at how sweet, humorous, and touching this short story was. Ric and Alex are well drawn, believable, and very engaging characters. I keenly felt the emotional turmoil Alex experienced at More...

Review after second read:

I loved this short story. So cute and it was really funny.

Read third time on 02/04/12

I love this story! It’s short but so funny and sweet. I wish it were longer of course but still Alex is just so funny and loveable and adult Ric is ok. It is a free story and I recommend it to everyone.

Well, this is the first I have read Zathyn Pries and I can assure you that it won't be the last. One of Those Days is a sweet little sip of a story about an ugly duckling turned swan (Alex Bell) who is still tormented by the bullying he withstood in high school. Alex, now a successful chiropractor, has those unhappy memories placed squarely before him on what was decidedly already a bad day. Into his practice walks the very source of all his high school nightmares, Ric Saunders. The hilarity More...

Twenty six year old chiropractor Alexander Bell's day got off to a bad start from the minute he woke up, and things did not get any better when he arrived at the clinic, and then to cap it all he sees the name of his first patient, Richard Saunders; surely this can't be the same Ric, the hot jock bully who made his school days a misery pushing him around and taunting him for being gay.

If he didn't recognise the face he would never forget the voice, he can only hope that Ric does not re More...

I saw this story reviewed by several of my friends on GoodReads and it was receiving such praise, I had to check it out. Much to my delight, it's not only a delicious read, it's a FREE one too.

A quick short fic that will have you laughing and squirming in your seat!

Summary: When Alex wakes up one morning, and everything starts to go wrong, he knows it’s going to be one of those days. Things get worse when his high school bully, captain of the football team and meathead ex

Zathyn Priest has become of my favorite authors. In my opinion his writing is very unique. He is either making me laugh with his interesting dialog and loveable characters like in The Curtis Reincarnation, or scaring the hell out of me in The Slayers Apprentice. Either way, I love his work, and I look forward to reading more by him.

One Of These Days is a very short novel. It takes place in the space of one day and is told in first person through Alex's point of view. It is a lig More...

Oh, please! A guy falling for his high school bully after seeing him for the first time in eight years? Yeah, cause there’s nothing more romantic than jumping into bed with the guy who used to steal your lunch, rip up your homework, write “Alex is a fat fag” on your locker and flush your head down the toilet more than once. So what if you felt ugly and cried yourself to sleep at night and had panic attacks just thinking about school?

Maybe I am more unforgiving than others, but if my h More...

Love-love-loved this one! Hilarious, sweet, wonderful story that left me smiling.

I even teared up a couple of times. I could completely relate to Alex (except for the part where he grew up to be hot/attractive - lucky bastard!). It brought back memories of my own school/highschool experiences of being the ugly, flat-chested, four-eyed bookworm/nerd that everyone teased and tormented when they weren't treating me like I was invisible. It's really sad how that kind of abuse can aff More...

I would have given this 5 stars if it weren't for the hormonally overwrought ravings of the PMS-ing female character. I understand it's a short story and there is an emphasis on comedic effect, but irrational, hysterical PMS Woman is a stereotype that I am so, so tired of encountering, and one which I often find offensive. At the very least, it makes me roll my eyes.

Stepping off of my soapbox, the story did redeem itself for the female cliche with "In my infinite wisdom I’ve le More...

This was a great snapshot of the beginnings of a relationship between people who were complete opposites in high school. Very sweet at the end - left me wishing both for more and thinking it was the perfect ending at the same time.

I really enjoyed this story. It was really humorous all of the things that go wrong in his day, but the day ended on such a good note. Great writing style. This was the first story I've read by Zathyn Priest, but it won't be the last.

Please don't look at my rating as a reflection of the book. It was well written, funny, and some of the characters very in-depth. However, having dealt with my own brunt of gay bully bashing and living in the town in which a friend of mine Scotty Weaver was murdered. I lean more towards the vengence on the bully books than lets forgive the bully especially when the bully was a physical bully. I like to believe in forgiveness, I really really do but with this subject I don't think I'm there yet. More...

Funny, fast read about a chiropractor who runs into the kid who used to bully him in high school. Alex's inner dialogue is hilarious, including passages like this:

"I thought I would be witty, tripped over one of my dog's squeaky toys, dropped the coffee, fell forward on to my knees... Could it get any worse? Oh yes! Face straight into Ric's crotch."

Like all short stories, the action moves faster than it probably would in normal life, but the chemistry between Alex a More...

It was an ok story, though I was expecting more.

Alex seemed very childish with an attitude definitely meant for high school hallways, not a 26 years old man seemingly achieved in all aspects. It was hard picturing a man with his personal and professional life so organised turn into a floundering teenager. And if his high school years were so awful, I expected Alex to despise Ric (Dick) not switch between throwing accusations at him and suddenly realising how hot and perfect he is.

OMG this short story is so funny and quirky!! I always enjoy a plot about falling in love with high school nemesis. It's fun seeing the role turns, where that guy who makes the hero's life miserable, will try hard to win his heart. Alex Bell's character is just adorable and his thoughts are so, so funny. Like this one ...

This is pretty much a one shot, which is not usually my thing. I much prefer the character development in longer stories. That being said, this was a great one shot. There is a whole ex-bully theme going on here. I sometimes find it hard to believe that someone will forgive a bully and end up attracted to their bully. But, I suppose some amount of reality has to be suspended when reading m/m romance, and I also suppose that people are attracted to all sorts, regardless of what a person has d More...

A great little find of a story about Alex who was once bullied is school for his obesity, coke bottle bottom glasses and gayness. He meets his tormentor again through work and even though the once-bully seem to regret his actions, Alex is reluctant to act on the mutual attraction. My only negative comment would be <spoiler> that the author tries to neaten up the end by adding an epiloge - one year after - to make it an HEA instead of an HFN. It makes it a bit too sugar sweet for me and it More...

I throughly enjoyed this story. It was both extremely funny and extremely hot. One thing that I really admired about this piece was that the author was able to tell a very real, very believable tale that sucked me fully into the story and yet it wasn't that long. I admire ANYONE who can write a short story and do it in a way that leaves the reader completely satisfied at the end. There was never a point where I felt I was missing something. Brilliantly written--A wonderful read!

Even if this were not free I would have gladly bought it! I lost count of how many times in this short story soda squirted out of my nose from intense laughter. So the ugly fat duckling from high school turns into a swan. He runs into the school bully who only got better looking over the years. But... it appears bully falls for new hot him.... Alex's antics for petty revenge and inner thoughts were so hilarious I was crying and shrieking at the same time.

I liked this short read.

It's funny, sweet, and sorta sad too.
You sympathise with Alex, the main character.

The story is not too descriptive, and allows you to sculpt the scenes to your liking.
It was a tad confusing to imagine Alex, as there was not enough of a description at the start.

This is a cute story, with the feelings of true emotions.

All in all? Read it before going to bed

Ric was Alex's childhood bully. Years later, Ric comes into Alex's chiropractic office as a patient but doesn't recognize the man years after losing weight, braces, glasses, and acne. Alex was a total spaz in this story, freaking out left and right, but he was completely adorable. Although this pdf was only 23 pages, I felt a real connection between the characters. Great free download!

This was an amazing short story. It resonated with the girl in me who was bullied in high school. I have no idea what I would do when confronted with my bullies now. I'd like to think I'd be strong, but I have a feeling I would freak and crumble like Alex does. I was impressed with how Zathyn handled the closure Alex got with Ric and what came after. Very satisfying read.

OMG! I read this during my lunch break seeing that its only 25 pages. But damn! The number of times my food went down the wrong wind-pipe! Hilarious and touching at the same time. The way the author draws you into the main character is heartfelt. And yes....sometimes there is just one of those days.

Recommended to everyone coz everyone deserves a pick-em-upper!

Zathyn Priest has such an engaging writing style, and he infuses this short, sweet story with a heaping dose of humor. In one Murphy's Law sort of day, when anything particularly humiliating can and will happen to Alex, he manages to find a silver lining around a particularly gray cloud named Ric. You just can't read this story without a very big grin on your face. :D

I'm not sure i'm gonna stop till i've read all five of them.

Absolutely hilarious. ^__^ I giggled through the whole thing, and just LOVE Alex. The poor guy, nothing goes right for him that day, even when they look like they are.

Very sweet too, and I just loved the last line: "We’re a match made in heaven. Even though I originally met my angel in hell."

I enjoyed this short story written by Zathyn Priest. The romance between the characters was very entertaining to read about. For such a short novel, it was surprising how much I cared for the characters and I definitely wanted them to be together.

Easy 5 stars AND it's free which makes it even better!

For such a short story this one was amazing. Touching on so many feelings and a difficult topic. Using humor and angst to get the point accross at the same time. I was not sure a HEA was possible but Zathyn Priest is an expert story teller and managed the impossible. Great read.
