A great introduction to eating clean. I know I'm suppose to eat only things that are good for me but sometimes those buttercream topped cupcakes just plead for me eat them and I am at their mercy. It doesn't count if I make them from scratch, right?

After reading this book cover to cover I realized I do mostly eat clean but have some work to do. This book says I need to eat 6 small meals consisting of protein and a complex carb, mostly lean proteins, veggies and fruit, and that I need to cut out

I've been following the Eat Clean diet for a while through Oxygen Mag and the Clean Eating mag. Wanting to get serious about at the new year I got this book hoping to get the big picture and motivation. As someone that doesn't really need to lose much weight, I was not the target audience, but I should have anticipated that. There was alot of motivation, but not really that much information about the actual diet. Eat clean food! is repeated over and over, but I feel like someone with no idea abo ...more

another hit! this one has a lot more information than the "your best body now". it has meal plans and recipes that i'm looking forward to trying. i have noticed that when i don't put junk in my body and eat food in it's natural state that is good for me, i do feel better. i'm definitely going to try incorporating coconut oil/butter into my diet. tosca suggests it to help those of us who are ADDICTED to sugar...that has definitely been my biggest challenge-saying "no" to m&m's, ice cream and ...more

There are good ideas in this book, but it is not something I would subscribe to 100%. Not all of the theories make sense, and I don't like the "eat-clean" mentality. There is actually danger in connecting your self-worth to how you eat. This can be an eating disorder in itself. With that said, I like parts of the book, and her story is inspirational. It's definitely a book that I am glad to have in my collection, and I will turn to it for food ideas. The recipes look interesting, and I'm anxious ...more

Common sense info - eat proper portions of real food in a balanced diet. She lost me when she started justifying her fake boobs in the middle of the book.

I'm reviewing this book more for my benefit. Although, if some of you have read some of my other posts in the past, you might now I do enjoy trying to be a smidge healthy. But lately I've been slacking, so I figured borrowing this book would be a good way to kick-start my mentality back to reality and remind me that I need to go back to being healthy.

Tosca Reno is a well-known author and Eat-Clean advocate and user, well actually I'm pretty sure she's the one who starte

Good advice about eating "clean" (natural unprocessed foods) and avoiding processed sugars, non-whole-grain flours, and highly processed foods. One thing I completely missed the point on was when she was discussing the importance of eating clean on one's skin appearance. She went from saying how important good nutrition is to talking about how sometimes one might need to resort to cosmetic surgery to help with sagging skin after a big weight loss. She then goes on to talk about/justify her breas ...more

A very good book with some solid, common-sense advice. The rule for portions and types of foods to eat are solid and I'm confident they will work. I've started following the advice in the book. I've heard many of these rules before in other "lifestyle change" formats but her style does make the program approachable. I would have liked a bit more attention to how to prepare foods, and list of recipes was far smaller than I would have expected in a book like this. That's the reason it received a r ...more

It was nice to finally find a book that really outlines the diet and principles of clean eating and where to start. I've been looking into starting this diet for some time, but have felt overwhelmed and unsure where to start. Tosca Reno outlines this diet beautifully. Each chapter was straight forward and to the point. Her writing style was easy to follow, but she could be very repetitive with certain things that didn't really matter. Like that fact that she states fifty times that she likes to ...more

I read this book time and time again for a number of reasons, and it is most definitely my favorite health/fitness book for a number of reasons.

1. It is realistic

2. It is not intimidating, but it IS honest, it makes you rethink HOW bad your eating habits really are

3. It is GREAT for beginners who are clueless as to what healthy eating actually looks like

4. It is up to date (as it should be) and includes lots of highly nutritious super-foods such as coconut oil that some books shy away from

Though I agree with Ms. Reno's nutrition philosophy in general, this book drove me a bit nuts.
The shrieking, miracle-diet tone hurt my brain (and my ears - I could practically hear the tone). Also, though she gives many valid principles, the magazine style OMG Science! facts irritated me. There is plenty of research out there on super-foods and the like, but a more balanced view or acknowledgement that studies are ongoing and what we know so far is X - instead of a "this is totally true and scie

I'd say this is a 2.5* book. Somewhere between 'ok' and 'I liked it'.

There is nothing wrong with this book but I haven't found it a riveting read either. I think it would be an excellent book for someone who is just starting out on learning about nutrition and healthy eating. It has a lot of bright pictures and low word count pages. It has a lot of really good fundamental information about eating well.
Tosca Reno's personal journey to health and fitness is interesting and motivational also.

How do I love Tosca Reno! I won't count the ways here, but this is a book I have read over and over again. I go to bed with my cabbage soup in the slow cooker. Cabbage, beans, sausage, carrots with a very low sodium broth and a little brown rice tossed in for good measure. And this yummy all weekend lunch isn't the main thing for me. It's the going back to a handful of raw nuts and a couple of squares of 70% dark chocolate every night and only having real junk food once a week, and not the crazy ...more

I just couldn't quite relate to this book or the methods of the diet. the "infographics" throughout the book made it seem like I was being sold a PowerPoint. Many of the headings and intros sounded promising, like real info was coming and instead, everything was skimmed and read like "why is our diet so great? our diet is so great!". But mostly, my theory on health is different than the author... different diets work for different people, no doubt. seemed like she was missing something that made ...more

AH-MAZING! I think everyone should read this book because of all the information Tosca has in it.
It's common sense that we should all be eating 100% clean since our bodies are designed for clean, real foods.
I haven't been eating 100% clean but I definitely got the little kick I needed to start on my 100% quest.
I look forward to all the positive changes my body will endure from here on out!
Tosca is an amazing & inspirational woman who I admire so much. I would love to meet her someday. Beaut

This book is pretty much the bible of eating! This is the way we should be eating. Everyone! I highly, Highly recommend it to anyone and everyone! It's not a Diet... it is a way of eating, a way of living... clean! No crap, no fast food, all natural food... the way God gave it to us! :-) I have't read through front to back, I read it more as reference, but I have read the whole thing (just not in order). And I continue to read around in it. It stays next to my bed, that is how much I love this b ...more

This book is officially my new kitchen bible. Tosca is right on the money! I have been working with a nutritionist and weight training coach and everything she instructs me to do is in line with what Tosca says. Only Tosca had more recipes and makes cooking more fun! Her advice and outlook on the eat-clean diet is not only wise but it is totally realistic and achievable for a regular woman who wants the best for her body and tasty recipes too! Very good guide to help you start eating clean. Provides lots of lists, tips and recipes. Some of the recipes are a little too complex for my taste but it gives you a good idea of the many meals you can make. Full flavor, you don't have to eat bland to eat healthy! Since its written by a female body builder I also adjust for my needs because I'm pretty sure I'm not working out as hard as her so I feel her body needs more "fuel" than mine but the concept itself works!

Love Toscas books. Although dont be fooled by the name of the book. Its no diet, its a LIFESTYLE CHANGE! and thats what eating healthy should be. there is no quick way to lose weight and then go back to eating what you ate before and itll all stay off. No you must make a lifestyle change. And tosca teaches that very well. I love her i mean shes in her 50's and looks like that. And her youtube channel is fun also.

Good advice for eating well on a regular basis. Just isn't something I can adhere to 100%. I try to make good choices but I'd rather enjoy what I'm eating than trying to fit all the rules in. I don't have the time, or desire, to spend all my free time planning out every meal every day and preparing for six meals a day!

This book was an easy read with tons of great information - now to implement a clean lifestyle that will be key.

Tosca definitely inspired me to continue on my journey of getting healthier and trying to get my other half to join me.

Definitely a great read for those how are looking to changing their lifestyle to a clean food lifestyle.

Certainly interesting. I hope I can find the will to get started. Lots of it was repeat information, but that doesn't mean I don't need reminding. Many of the recipes look good and I love that she provides not only meal plans, but grocery lists to go with them. It's also very helpful that she provides lists for individuals or families. Eating healthy really should be a family affair.

In this book it states that our physique is determined by the following: 10% is genetics, 10% is training, and 80% is food. I guess there's a lot of truth to the saying, "You are what you eat." I read it in about 2 days! It is a pretty quick read. Great for anyone who wants to live a healthy lifestyle! :)

Really liked this one as it had menus, grocery lists and cooler lists. It even included a menu for vegans, one for gluten free folks and one for families. Makes it much easier when it's planned out for you.
plus everything we tried out of this book was great, even the kids liked it. The Tzatziki is adddicting!

This was a good place to begin for those of you wanting to eat "better."

Easy to use, lots of recipes, amazing colorful pictures.

However, it just wasn't the change I was looking for. Great ideas for people eating the standard american diet. Lots of easy changes.

I'm just looking for something more radical!

Worth a read once you hit "a certain age" and everything that used to work re: weight maintenance no longer does. More a nutrition/life style book than a diet book. Seems to be sound advice yet extreme in today's world. Certainly a wealth of information clearly presented with many ideas that can be incorporated into your everyday eating.
