Read April 2, 2010:
Wow, wow, wow. I adored this installment of the Mercy series, and it is definitely one of my favorites. This book was a bit of a change from the rest of the series though. Usually Mercy's adventures are action driven with a lot of humor, wit, danger, and a sprinkle of romance to tease readers. With this book though romance definitely took the front seat in terms of plot with action/plot taking a more secondary role. Either way though it was fantastic.

I read this for Samuel and only for him.
I also gave this one five stars for Samuel. The rest of the story is good too, but for me, everything took a backseat to my favorite werewolf.
Samuel broke my heart. I spent a good deal of the story with a lump in my throat for him. The conversation he has with Mercy in the X-ray room was so poignant, so sad. :'( And it was interesting too, seeing into the mind of a wolf who was losing control. The most anticipated change is Mercy's relationship with Adam, the werewolf Alpha. Adam's pack is still not completely welcoming to a troublesome coyote and in this book a few pack members decide to meddle in Adam's and Mercy's relationship. One of the best aspects of Briggs' books is the real and growing relationship of Adam and Mercy. Briggs has declined to throw these two into each others arms instead giving her readers the pleasure of watching two people become a couple. Love does not conque

I can't deny that I read this book in one sitting, and that the narrative was absorbing. Briggs is a good writer. But by the next morning, all I could think of were complaints. I suspect I'll be in the minority in disliking this, though.
There's no Stephan at all. Maybe the author thinks everybody is sick of vampires. I'm not. I'm sick of the damned Fae. Their presence has ruined this series for me. They're too otherworldy and overly-magical for the kind of urban fantasy I enjoy. I've More...

More Fae trouble and 'Pack 101' - another great Mercy offering from Briggs
The main dilemma in Silver Borne makes it a Fae-centric offering, but since trouble comes in threes: Mercy's also having issues with the pack bond and some pack members who are unhappy with a coyote in the pack, also things are not right with Samuel and Mercy's going to find out just how serious a problem that is. Mercy is a magnet for trouble as always - that's a given - but the resolutions to problems with th More...

I tried so hard not to rush through this, savor the story, and make it last. It didn't work. I couldn't put this down. Best one yet. Was it because I adore Adam and Mercy? Or was it because their was so much Samuel? Or how about the awesome story line? I pick ... all of the above.

The Mercy Thompson series is the only urban fantasy series that I've come across that I have absolutely fallen in love with. I have read the first five books one right after the other, and as soon as the sixth one lands on my front porch tomorrow from Amazon, I will be starting that one. Like I've said in every review for this series, I continue to love the plots and the characters of the world of Mercy Thompson.

I really love this series, and I this is my favorite cover of the lot. It's a hot coyote woman WITH A BOOK, y'all. The cool magical doodads—the fae book and staff—are intriguing and Briggs rations her little hints about their nature expertly to keep readers on the hook.
She also serves up plenty of pack politics here and tantalizing tidbits about the fae. For those tired of vampires, this is the book for you; they're mentioned in the book but never show up. The world-building is fantast More...

**This contains some spoilers of the previous book in the series (#4)**
Another great addition to a terrific series -- stayed up late reading this one!
Silver Borne picks up where Bone Crossed lets off. Mercy and Adam are mated and she has joined the pack. That continues to cause controversy, as some werewolves do not want a coyote shifter in their pack. She continues to live in her trailer with her friend and roomate Samuel, and encourages Adam to give the pack time to acc More...

When Mercy gets a message asking her to look after a fae book that she had previously borrowed she is curious about what has happened to it's owner. Then she finds herself being targeted by a mysterious fae who is not only after her but also targeting Adam and her pack but what does this have to do with the book? To make matters worse Samuel, who's depression has been worsening over the months, has taken a turn for the worse. For survival Samuel's wolf has taken control but that makes him dan

I really like this series. Mercy is a strong, independent, and realistic character (except for the whole coyote thing) and that makes her more endearing to me. The fact that Adam loves her just as she is, greasy hands and all, makes him more endearing as well. Also, their love story wasn't an instant attraction like there is in a lot of urban fantasies but instead developed over time, which is a nice change of pace. This particular book had a lot of different things going on but it wasn't ov

When mechanic and shape shifter Mercy Thompson attempts to return a powerful Fae book she'd previously borrowed in an act of desperation, she finds the bookstore locked up and closed down. It seems the book contains secret knowledge-and the Fae will do just about anything to keep it out of the wrong hands. And if that doesn't take enough of Mercy's attention, her friend Samuel is struggling with his wolf side-leaving Mercy to cover for him, lest his own father declare Sam's life forfeit. All in

I can't believe I am done already...reading this book barely took me more than a day... and I took plenty of time!
I just loved it and was not disappointed one bit. I just hate knowing that this is the last one of the series written as of now...but my little finger tells me that there will be another one coming out within a year. I will be strong until then :)

What a brilliant entry in the Mercy series. It's a return to the fae, which is always interesting, but it is also full of pack and Samuel.
The first 50 pages were a whirlwind of emotions -leaving me laughing out loud, tearing up and becoming even more smitten with Adam. I don't think it's a spoiler to say that this book features Samuel quite heavily, addressing some of his long built up issues. As a big fan of his character, I loved this aspect. I was going to take my time and read this slowly, but I forgot that the action doesn't allow you to stop.
Mercedes keeps getting into trouble but it really never is her fault. She's never stupid or rash and that's such a pleasure to read.

Re-read Jan 2011
Gets better every time I read it. ;-)
Originally read: May 2010
Where is the 10 star button?! If Goodreads had one, this book definitely qualifies. I'm exhausted, and in a good way, from reading this book. Every time I say "I don't see how she can top this" (meaning Briggs) she proves me wrong. And I'm so glad she does! If I wasn't already a squealing fangirl before, I definitely am after reading this.

OMG so unbelievably awesome!! There are not words to describe the absolute wonder of this book. Patricia Briggs is one talented and amazing author that I will be following for years to come. Silver Borne was to be a turning point novel from the start. With Iron Kissed being a novel full of decisions in which Mercy had to accept what she truly desired, and begin the process of healing to overcome the past and hardship that occurred in the previous novels, this novel was a turning point in which B

I love her spunk and the passion with which she attempts to protect those around her.
Why do I love this story? I really like Mercy (I hate the way she looks on the book cover, never judge a book . . .) The story starts with Mercy going out on a date with Adam. In the previous book, she finally accepts Adams invitation to be Mate. They are out bowling and “something” gets into her head and causes her to toss a bowling back AT a little girl. Adam’s werewolf reflexes stop the bowl and a More...

I really enjoyed this one, mainly because it looks like Mercy's romantic life is all tied up. I think it was the right choice, for sure. I think this one had just enough of both the werewolf and Fey, but I would have liked to see more on the vampires. Unfortunately, this is the last I was able to read from my library, and I'll have to buy/order the next if I want it.

He lifted his lip in a mock snarl and put his nose down on the dashboard with a thump. “You’re smearing the windshield,” I told him. He looked at me and deliberately ran his nose across his side of the glass. I rolled my eyes. “Oh, that was mature. The last time I saw someone do something that grown-up was when my little sister was twelve.”

After waiting for a year, it felt so good to sit down with a new Mercy Thompson book. I'm a devoted fan, but I admit I was a little worried about this one: I really liked book 4 in the series, but it wasn't my favorite, and I was a little nervous about how the series would continue now that Mercy and Adam are a settled couple. I'm happy for them and all, but a pair of mature adults in a committed relationship don't always make for thrilling reading. Luckily, it looks like Briggs has built a cert

Silver Borne is the fifth installment in the very popular Mercy Thompson series by Patrica Briggs. Mercy, the VW mechanic whose proper name is Mercedes, is a skin-walker who turns into a coyote. Being raised by werewolves has left Mercy naturally wary of the brutes of the were-community, but she hasn't been able to fight her attraction to the local pack alpha and she has finally taken the position as his mate and fully accepted the pack bond. Unfortunately many of the werewolves in Adam's pack d

This is by far my favorite book in the Mercy Thompson series. Returning a borrowed book should be easy, right? Well, it’s far from easy in the world of Patricia Briggs. The premise of the book is that Mercy needs to return a very special book about the Fae. However, the more significant plot element is the developing relationship between Mercy and Adam, how it affects the pack, and the toll it takes on poor Samuel. From the beginning of the series, Samuel has been a sympathetic character, and ol

Okay so this book was my least favorite so far of the serious, but I still enjoyed it. The triangle between Samuel, Mercy and Adam took on a different form from love to loyalty. There was new drama within Adam's pack that added suspense and drama to the plot, however, I think this book is without a climax. There are a bunch of peaks to the plot, but there wasn't a strong distinguished "fight" or incident that could be classified as the climax. One of the things I missed was Stefan. The

Heh. Zombie Mercy. I loved that Line. Other than the fact that this one had the most romance... In my Opinion I liked the book although I was worried about Sam and Adam at one point each.
I'm glad that Samuel Is no longer in danger of losing himself! Although watching him put the distance between everyone in this book was hard. I feel bad for Gabriel and for so many reasons I really hope that things work out for him, he's such a nice boy! I just want to take his mother and talk to her More...

Silver Borne is the 5th book in the Mercy Thompson Series. I have to say I love this series. Mercy Thompson is the ultimate woman - she's an auto mechanic who can't see to stay clean and pretty. She doesn't wear heels and yet she seems to function in the dating world just fine. She's dating her neighbor who just happens to be the Alpha Wolf of the local Werewolf pack. Oh, did I mention she can turn into a coyote. For those who love fantasy books - this is a great one and definitely therapy for t

I have really enjoyed this series. Briggs is one of my favorite authors. Up until now, all of the Mercy books have been 4 stars bordering on being amazing/5 stars.
Silver Borne wasn't that for me, barely reaching 3 stars. Although enjoyable, it just didn't have that *wow* factor to propel the story into the 4 star range. It was nice to walk around in Mercy's head for a while, but some elements in the book really bothered me.

Silver Borne is the fifth instalment in the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. This book is suspenseful, sexually torqued to the max and full of mystery.
Mercy is still trying to deal with her issues after the ‘Tim incident’ and is slowly coming round to being able to be with Adam without flinching. Dealing with the pack is another can of worms altogether. Now that she has been properly inducted into the pack as the Alpha leader’s, Adam Hauptman, mate she can feel the pack at a More...
