Being a mechanic is hard work. Mercy Thompson, for instance, just spent the last couple of months trying to evade the murderous queen of the local vampire seethe. And now the leader of the werewolf pack, who's maybe-more-than-just-a-friend, has asked for her help. A book of fae secrets has come to light and they're all about to find out how implacable - and dangerous - the...more

Read April 2, 2010:

Wow, wow, wow. I adored this installment of the Mercy series, and it is definitely one of my favorites. This book was a bit of a change from the rest of the series though. Usually Mercy's adventures are action driven with a lot of humor, wit, danger, and a sprinkle of romance to tease readers. With this book though romance definitely took the front seat in terms of plot with action/plot taking a more secondary role. Either way though it was fantastic.

The plot combined my 2 fav...more

Briggs is my drug of choice! I loved this book! It made me very glad that I had also read the Alpha and Omega series!

It’s the return of the Fae in Silver-Borne! Like I said before, I don’t usually like fae stories, but Briggs is always an exception. Mercy Thompson always finds herself in the middle of a huge mess, but she’s always level-headed, always logical and keeps it simple.

With Mercy as the newest addition of the Columbia Basin Pack, she’s still getting used to having Adam inside her head with the bond and learning to deal with the other werewolves in the pack. As an independen...more

Ahh!! *satisfied sigh* I just re-read this book, and enjoyed it even more the second time. Up from 4 to 5 stars. I am now prepared to read book #7, Frost Burned, for the first time. (I liked book 6, River Marked, but it's not set in Kennewick, and it wasn't so long ago that I read it, so no need to re-read it).

So far, THIS book, #5, Silver Borne, is the BEST in this series. Enough plot and plenty of action, but also character driven and relational. Love, too. I loved it!

★★★★½ (This is a review of the audiobook.) Lorelei King narrates this first person POV, and I think she just keeps getting better at speaking as our little coyote-shifter garage mechanic, Mercy. She has a lot of voices in this adventure, which concentrates on the fae – but, definitely not this kind of fae (view spoiler)[ (hide spoiler)] – plus werewolves (of course), and a (view spoiler)[witch; but, real b!tch-witch, rather than this kind of a witch (view spoiler)[ (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)...more

I read this for Samuel and only for him.

I also gave this one five stars for Samuel. The rest of the story is good too, but for me, everything took a backseat to my favorite werewolf.

Samuel broke my heart. I spent a good deal of the story with a lump in my throat for him. The conversation he has with Mercy in the X-ray room was so poignant, so sad. :'( And it was interesting too, seeing into the mind of a wolf who was losing control. I am glad Samuel found someone to live for. But I'll miss Sam...more

Before I start I have to pick on the cover. Would you look at that! It’s simply gorgeous! My respect to the artist who painted it.

It’s been a while since the last time I’ve read a Mercy Thompson book. I was a bit afraid that I’d miss certain details because of this but thankfully I didn't.

I don’t know why it’s always difficult for me to write a review for this series. I get so sucked into the books that I stop making notes about it while reading. And after I’m done with the book I keep telling m...more

The most anticipated change is Mercy's relationship with Adam, the werewolf Alpha. Adam's pack is still not completely welcoming to a troublesome coyote and in this book a few pack members decide to meddle in Adam's and Mercy's relationship. One of the best aspects of Briggs' books is the real and growing relationship of Adam and Mercy. Briggs has declined to throw these two into each others arms instead giving her readers the pleasure of watching two people become a couple. Love does not conque...more

I have an ARC! I have an ARC. Wheeee!

I read this while sick in bed with a cold, so my thinking was admittedly a bit fuzzy while I read it. I didn't love it as much as some of the previous books, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. I think people will be split in two camps on this one. Those who like the romance aspect and wanted to see more of Mercy and Adam's relationship will be pleased, because this is somewhat more relationship focused. Those who read for the urban fantasy story/plot will not...more

I can't deny that I read this book in one sitting, and that the narrative was absorbing. Briggs is a good writer. But by the next morning, all I could think of were complaints. I suspect I'll be in the minority in disliking this, though.

There's no Stephan at all. Maybe the author thinks everybody is sick of vampires. I'm not. I'm sick of the damned Fae. Their presence has ruined this series for me. They're too otherworldy and overly-magical for the kind of urban fantasy I enjoy. I've always like...more

More Fae trouble and 'Pack 101' - another great Mercy offering from Briggs

The main dilemma in Silver Borne makes it a Fae-centric offering, but since trouble comes in threes: Mercy's also having issues with the pack bond and some pack members who are unhappy with a coyote in the pack, also things are not right with Samuel and Mercy's going to find out just how serious a problem that is. Mercy is a magnet for trouble as always - that's a given - but the resolutions to problems with the pack, and

“Really what?” I asked.
“Despite the way our bond scares you, despite the way someone in the pack played you, you’d still have me?” He'd been listening to my thoughts. This time it didn't bother me. “Adam,” I told him, “I’d walk barefoot over hot coals for you.”

I was seriously surprised, Bone Crossed was better than the first three books but, SILVER BORNE was AMAZING! I can honestly say is the best book in the series, where's the next one? I need the next one! I loved every thing about this book...more

I tried so hard not to rush through this, savor the story, and make it last. It didn't work. I couldn't put this down. Best one yet. Was it because I adore Adam and Mercy? Or was it because their was so much Samuel? Or how about the awesome story line? I pick ... all of the above.

* Lots of Samuel! Fantastic story line for him. He was in every scene. He gets a little HEA! Yeah for Samuel!

The Mercy Thompson series is the only urban fantasy series that I've come across that I have absolutely fallen in love with. I have read the first five books one right after the other, and as soon as the sixth one lands on my front porch tomorrow from Amazon, I will be starting that one. Like I've said in every review for this series, I continue to love the plots and the characters of the world of Mercy Thompson.

As per usual, Mercy is fabulous. If I were a lesbian, I would totally go for her. To...more

I really love this series, and I this is my favorite cover of the lot. It's a hot coyote woman WITH A BOOK, y'all. The cool magical doodads—the fae book and staff—are intriguing and Briggs rations her little hints about their nature expertly to keep readers on the hook.

She also serves up plenty of pack politics here and tantalizing tidbits about the fae. For those tired of vampires, this is the book for you; they're mentioned in the book but never show up. The world-building is fantastically abs...more

Another great addition to a terrific series -- stayed up late reading this one!

Silver Borne picks up where Bone Crossed lets off. Mercy and Adam are mated and she has joined the pack. That continues to cause controversy, as some werewolves do not want a coyote shifter in their pack. She continues to live in her trailer with her friend and roomate Samuel, and encourages Adam to give the pack time to accept her. However some of...more

Once again Briggs has gone the route of the dual plot lines, only this time there are dual subplots as well. Not only do we have to keep track of the mystery involving the fae book, but there is also intrigue within the pack, the issue of Sam's attempted suicide, and the question of who hired the human bounty hunter set after Adam. Its disconcerting, as it was with Bone Crossed, to have one story advertised on the cover, but another (in this case, Mercy's trouble with the pack) take up a good ch...more

When Mercy gets a message asking her to look after a fae book that she had previously borrowed she is curious about what has happened to it's owner. Then she finds herself being targeted by a mysterious fae who is not only after her but also targeting Adam and her pack but what does this have to do with the book? To make matters worse Samuel, who's depression has been worsening over the months, has taken a turn for the worse. For survival Samuel's wolf has taken control but that makes him danger...more

Fifth in the Mercy Thompson series. Mercy's life is finally settling down: her PTSD is settling down, her relationship with Adam feels more solid than ever, and no supernatural problems seem to be brewing. But then her oldest friend and first love, Samuel, tries to commit suicide. Mercy is running out of time to convince him to live, but simultaneously, powerful fae come looking for a book of legends she borrowed.

This is possibly my favorite Mercy book yet. I like the way Briggs writes the fae,...more

SILVER BORNE has been my most anticipated novel of the year (and already the River Marked, Mercy #6 is my most anticipated book for next year). Everything I’ve loved about the previous books are here again. Mercy is just plain cool. She is laid back, resilient, tough without being pushy, and brave enough to risk her life for those she loves (which she inevitably does several times in this book). If you want to know exactly how cool Mercy is, c...more

I really like this series. Mercy is a strong, independent, and realistic character (except for the whole coyote thing) and that makes her more endearing to me. The fact that Adam loves her just as she is, greasy hands and all, makes him more endearing as well. Also, their love story wasn't an instant attraction like there is in a lot of urban fantasies but instead developed over time, which is a nice change of pace. This particular book had a lot of different things going on but it wasn't overwh...more

When mechanic and shape shifter Mercy Thompson attempts to return a powerful Fae book she'd previously borrowed in an act of desperation, she finds the bookstore locked up and closed down. It seems the book contains secret knowledge-and the Fae will do just about anything to keep it out of the wrong hands. And if that doesn't take enough of Mercy's attention, her friend Samuel is struggling with his wolf side-leaving Mercy to cover for him, lest his own father declare Sam's life forfeit. All in...more

I can't believe I am done already...reading this book barely took me more than a day... and I took plenty of time!
I just loved it and was not disappointed one bit. I just hate knowing that this is the last one of the series written as of now...but my little finger tells me that there will be another one coming out within a year. I will be strong until then :)

What a brilliant entry in the Mercy series. It's a return to the fae, which is always interesting, but it is also full of pack and Samuel.

The first 50 pages were a whirlwind of emotions -leaving me laughing out loud, tearing up and becoming even more smitten with Adam. I don't think it's a spoiler to say that this book features Samuel quite heavily, addressing some of his long built up issues. As a big fan of his character, I loved this aspect. However, I think my favorite storyline was with the...more

I was going to take my time and read this slowly, but I forgot that the action doesn't allow you to stop.

Mercedes keeps getting into trouble but it really never is her fault. She's never stupid or rash and that's such a pleasure to read.

Where is the 10 star button?! If Goodreads had one, this book definitely qualifies. I'm exhausted, and in a good way, from reading this book. Every time I say "I don't see how she can top this" (meaning Briggs) she proves me wrong. And I'm so glad she does! If I wasn't already a squealing fangirl before, I definitely am after reading this.

Oh and can I just say this? Adam created his own category with this book: "Hero h...more

I'm having mixed feelings about Silver Borne. The romance part isn't bothering me that much anymore, although I still can't figure out why Mercy feels the way she does about Adam. The fact that he's a handsome and powerful alpha with an inch long fuse doesn't really convince me.

The action was there, but it was scattered all over the place and maybe even too plenty to keep the focus on the mystery, with the romance, pack dynamics and Samuel mixing things up even more. There was just too much goin...more

At the start of year 2013. I decided to reread Mercy Thompson series, so I'll be prepared for Frost Burned (as opposed to other x times I reread it without reason at all ;).
If you developed interest in reading UF, you'll soon find out that Mercy Thompson is one of the best series out there. And that's not easy because UF genre, especially shifter category is way overcrowded. This genre exploded in last couple of years, and it became a search of quality over quantity. So, trust all those lists an...more
