Re-reading. Made the time on the elliptical and treadmill pass quickly this morning, which is always nice! this is still one of my favorite old-skool Nora books. Her non JD Robb books are always hit and miss for me, but I always enjoy this one.

Isadora, or Dora, gets to be an unwilling participant in art smuggling when she buys a few things at an auction. A trail of corpses leads directly to Dora and a rich art collector that stops at nothing to get a painting back.

I am not going to review every Nora Roberts book that I have read in the past because she is quite prolific and it would get redundant and I honestly cannot remember all the plots. I think someone finds someone else attractive but at least one cannot admit it so there is sexual tension, then lots of sex, and then they live happily ever after? Sometimes there is some magic , a family legacy, or a mystery. Certainly not great works of literature (however still 100% better than “the grapes of wra...more
This was a lot better than I thought it was going to be given that it was written back in 1994. The characters were well-drawn and great to learn about. Dora was a real fire cracker who stood up for what she wanted and also believed in herself; whilst Jed was a man with a past who needed to learn to forgive himself and live again. There was a real chemistry between the two and I loved the fact that this was written before computers, mobile phones and the internet were really around. And it was f...more
This was my first 'Nora Roberts' read. I was leery at first because of the alarming genre title: 'Romance'. But my sister had been guzzling Nora's books for quite a while and I knew there had to be a reason for it. This sister also got me reading the 'In Death' series written by the same author just under the pseudonym 'J.D. Robb' and I loved the books I had read in that series up to that point. When I finally got around to this book, I quickly realized that although it was a romance story, it o...more
Not my favorite by this author, but worth the read. I did like the hero and heroine, and I enjoyed their interactions. There was just a little too much focus on the bad guys, though. Totally personal preference, but I'd just rather not dwell on what the bad guys are thinking when they do bad things. I understand the need for bad guys, and bad things, to add suspense. And this book has quite a bit of suspense compared to other Nora Roberts books. It just didn't quite offer the pleasant esca...more
A pretty descent Nora Roberts book. I think the main characters of this book are probably my favorites by this author. This book had me rolling with laughter many times and I enjoyed it. My only problems with this book was that it was way too long considering the story. Also, the main character's name, Dora, drove me crazy since I kept thinking of Dora the Explorer (whom I dislike passionately), which any parent of young children would understand my dilemma. No fault to NR since she probabl...more
I read Hidden Riches a long time ago and I remember really liking the book so I decided to read this book for this month's Re-read Challenge hosted by Nath.
It's been so long since I've read this book that it was almost like I was reading it for the first time because so many things happened in this book that I had totally forgotten about.
This book is about Dora Conroy and Jed Skimmerhorn. Dora owns an antique shop and lives in one of the two apartments upstairs. Jed Skimmerho...more

TBR Challenge 2011 - I'm using the TBR Challenge to make myself clear out some books that have been on my to-read shelf for a long while. Hidden Riches has been on my list since January 2010.
Dora's quick wit makes this book. Nora Roberts does a great job writing her, and writing the interactions between Dora and Jed. Jed is a complex character, but even though he acts like a jerk on several occasions, he isn't an unlikable person. In fact, his struggles are some of the most realistic...more

I think I would have liked this book more if it weren't for Jed and Dora-the main characters. They just didn't do it for me. Jed sounds beyond yummy and Dora could practically be my sister with the excessive talking and obsessing and whole drama thing, but I just didn't particularly like this couple and I really wanted to like them. Ok. That was a run-on sentence.
The push-pull got annoying. The dialogue became strained.

I really liked this book. It sort of reminded me of The Reef, by Nora Roberts. I really like Nora's romance books. I like how she splashes suspense with mystery. BUT unlike her other books like Montana Sky there isn't really too much mystery, to the reader. As the reader you know exactly what is going on and why. However, the romance and the tension between the two will keep you entertained :)
- audio, mass produced trashy novel from the early 90's - which was really obvious as I was trying to figure out a scene where the lead runs over to the romantic interest apt because her phone is dead. He checks his, and then refers her to the phone booth across the street. I'm thinking... uh, cell phone... duh, but right after that they make mention of the date 12/24/92. Yeah I can see that cell phones wouldn't have been widely used at that point... so funny to think that less than 15 years ...more
3.5 rating. Enjoyed the characters and their wit. Woman inadvertently purchases various things at an auction which harbored valuable riches hidden within. She is accosted in her apartment and saved by her ex cop neighbor. Although he is in an anti relationship phase, one begins to develop as murders and robberies occur and they work together to figure out why.
This is one of Roberts' better books, with an uncomplicated, likeable heroine, a surly, tortured hero and an assortment of charming or frightening secondary characters. The plot is simple and there is no doubt about the identity of the villain. There are two reasons why I didn't give this book 5 stars. First, the hero and heroine smoke, which may not have been a big deal in the 1990s when this was written, but by today's standards it's a jarring note. Second, the heroine's charming father drinks...more
Pretty standard Nora Roberts fare ... not her best by any stretch of the imagination. I kind of missed the element of mystery that she usually includes with her more suspensful books. It was a quick no-brainer of a read.
I've been reading Nora Roberts like crazy this summer, and this is definitely my least favorite so far. It was by no means bad and I actually really liked it at first, but I had to convince myself to keep on picking it up this last week so I could finish and I was able to put it aside for 8 days and start/finish other books instead - never a good sign.

Cool book. Anitque dealer buys an ugly painting at an auction, which ends up being a disguised Monet. Naturally, she becomes a target, but is helped by the hot, cop neighbor next door.

A fairly modern romance thriller set in Philadelphia, PA which involves curio shop owner, Dora Conroy, and an ex-cop millionaire, Jed Skimmerhorn. Snappy dialogue between the characters and enough plot to keep the romance story interesting.
I needed a quick light read after a couple of heavier reads and this one fit the bill. Classic Roberts book and I liked that it was longer than her 2-books in one book that I had read recently.
Solid Nora Roberts novel with very well written characters. A little too much ink spent on the bad guys, but all in all it's a very entertaining read when you need a little break.
This is my absolute favorite Nora Roberts book! Which is saying a lot with all the books she has published. The chemisty and interaction between the main characters (as well as the supporting characters) is wonderful.
Exciting story. I thought it was suspenseful and played out pretty realistically. I never became super attached to Jed or Dora but the overall story was decent.

Another Nora gem. I don't know much about antiques but she wets your interest enough that I was checking out some stuff on the Internet. Her research is amazing but the chemistry between her two key characters was flawless.

I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book at first but it was very good. I liked the humor mixed in with the suspense. The 2 main characters definitely were good together and their romance was well-developed and they fit very well together. Definitely worth reading.

Ex-cop meets antique dealer who is pursued by a smuggler whose stolen items have gone astray. As usual, the characters and their jobs outshine the setting.
