Fairy Tale is Cyn Balog's debut novel. I must admit that I loved the original title Fairy Lust, but novel was fantastic no matter the title. I'm a huge fan on the fairy/fae genre, so I'm always on the lookout for fairy related literature. Fairy Tale is in the lighter side of the genre compared to say the darker content of Melissa Marr & Holly Black. I'd group Fairy Tale with Wondrous Strange by Lelsey Livingston and Lament by Maggie Stiefvater.

Oddly surprising, and I'm still debating if that is necessarily good or bad. I'm leaning towards good though.
Morgan and Cam have been together basically their whole lives. They live next door to each and even share the same birthday. All feels right in Morgan's world. She helps people by being able to foresee the future, but as any gift it has its limits and sometimes causes people some pain, herself included. Most ya fiction captures the deep emotion of teenage life without the drama queen narcissism. This book is not one of them. If you can imagine a gaggle of self-absorbed girls jabbering away in high-pitched squeal, you'd have a good grasp on the voice. It's like nails on a chalkboard to me. By the end of the first chapter I was ready to gag and chapters two and three were even worse. I nearly gave up at that point; it's hard to read a book in a POV you cannot relate to. Fortunately, there is some...more
Fairy Tale is a quick read mainly because it's a page turner!
You quickly fall into the story of Morgan and Cam, and by the time you meet Pip and Dawn you're completely caught up in their world.
To me Fairy Tale is an unexpected story, lighter and funnier and quite different from the darker tales about fairies also on the market right now. The writing is clever, the story is original and intriguing and has unexpected twists that keep you reading to the end. It has all the elements of a satisfying...more

Whether you read fantasy or not, you'll want to read this book-- FAIRY TALE is about a girl who thinks her boyfriend is turning into a fairy.
Seriously. A Fairy.
But it's not so funny when Morgan realizes that her soul-mate, Cam, is going to leave her forever in order to return to the fairy world. How can she get him to stay? How far will she go for true love?
This one will keep you glued to the pages and guessing until the very end. Well-written, funny, and touching--a can't miss!

Fairies/faeries/fey/little magical people with wings. I love them so much. When I stumbled upon this gem of a book, I was super excited.
First, it's a GUY turning into a fairy. GOLD.
Second, he's next in line to be the Fairy King. PERFECT.
Third, his girlfriend is psychic. FANTASTIC. Too bad she didn't see her boyfriend turning into a fairy in a vision. OUCH.
Morgan Sparks and Cameron Browne are perfect together (I kept thinking about Cameron Morgan of The Gallagher girls). Best friends forever, l...more

If I had to describe FAIRY TALE in one word, I'd probably say amazing or unbelievable or stunning, because that's what I'm constantly thinking about it.
FAIRY TALE is about Morgan and Cam. They've been best friends and in love with each other their whole lives. Then, almost suddenly, everything changes. Cam is distant and losing his energy. When Morgan has just about had enough, because she loves him too much and wants to help him get through whatever his problem is, he tells her. Or shows her is...more

My Thoughts: Hmm, how shall I start this review? I really wanted to love this. I had been looking forward to it for a long time. It just lingered on my TBR and finally made its way to the top. I started off not knowing what to expect. By about 40 pages in, I almost stopped. We are introduced to Morgan and Cam who have been together since they were kids. Heck, they wore in diapers together. They have always known each other and known they would end up together. Morgan is a little bit of a psychic...more

This novel is sweet, enchanting, and puts a unique twist on the young adult love story. However, what really makes this one standout for me is Cyn Balog's great sense of humor.
Morgan is a pretty typical teenager, if you ignore the facts that she has psychic abilities and a rare bond with her neighbor, best friend, and boyfriend, Cameron. It's her intelligence and wit though that make her such fun character to experience the story through. Her observant and dry commentary is what propels this nov...more

This book just makes you feel warm and fuzzy after reading it. At times you laugh out loud and at other times you'll be biting your nails. The story could be a little to perfect for some, but I like happy endings and fairy tales.

This book was just ok for me. It was a quick read and kept me interested but I never felt connected to the characters. Even though I understood why Morgan chose her path I think she flip flopped to fast. The ending felt rushed IMO. I have so many questions and from what I read on the authors website she is not planning a sequel so I fear they will never be answered. I don't think this book should be classified as "fairy" since you really don't get to see into that world very much. There was one...more

This book was horrible. The main character had every bad female characteristic I could possibly imagine; it actually made me angry. She was sarcastic, selfish, and a cry baby. The only reason I finished the book was that I was praying she would redeem herself in the end and make me feel better. Actually, it only got worse. The only good thing associated with this book was that my 13 year old daughter, who was reading it at the same time as me, hated her even more (if that is possible) and couldn...more
I was taken off guard a bit at the love triangle-ness of this book, but in the end really really enjoyed it. I don't think I gave it 5 stars because it didn't wow me, but it was awfully close. 4 1/2 I'd say. I was happy with the way it ended. It was what I was rooting for all along.
Now I want to know what happens to the characters after this whole thing!

Cam and Morgan were born on the same day and grew up next door to each other, so maybe it was inevitable that they would fall in love. But a few weeks before their sixteenth birthday party Cam begins to act strangely and weird new boy comes to stay with him. Pip doesn't fit in, but Morgan takes pity on him and helps him out at school. Then she realizes that Pip knows what is going on with Cam. She finally gets them to confess and is stunned to discover that Cam is actually a changeling left by t...more
While this book was unusual, I wasn't sure it actually had a point. It's not exactly that things happened for no reason; I just didn't entirely feel that the story itself had a reason. Normally books like this one will have themes of sacrifice or love or making difficult choices. The theme of Fairy Tale seemed to be something like "high school relationships are fickle." Which is true but not really something to base a story on. I'm ironically flailing around here for a way to describe the proble...more

Initial thoughts finishing this book, “Well, that was… different.”
I’m not entirely sure how I feel about it… I don’t want to say it was horrible, because in reality, I rather enjoyed quite a bit of it. However, it wasn’t “ahh-mazing” either. For what the characters were and what the plot was, it was a very simple read on the whole. Let’s start off with the characters: Morgan, our snappy heroine, got on my nerves several times. To me, she seemed like those “Queen Bee” sort of characters, a bit su...more

Morgan is a fifteen-year-old who grew up with Cam, her best friend and the love of her life. She's a psychic and he's the quarterback on the football team. They know everything about each other...or so they thought. Days before their shared sixteenth birthday, a bizarre stranger shows up who claims Cam is really a fairy, and on their birthday, Cam is to return to the Otherworld to be the sole heir to the throne. Not to mention Cam has a horrible, yet gorgeous fairy guide attached to his side. Co...more
I happened to come across this book when I was browsing through the book store with no intention of buying anything ( read it as book buying ban ) but the cover and the dust jacket summary made me want to read it.

I read this book a while ago, and let's just say that it was one of the most disappointing books I have read in my entire life (yes, because even children picture books are better then this).
Spoiler, read at your own risk:
The book is about a pair of neighbors who have been with each other their entire lives. Morgan, the female protagonist claims that Cam is her love throughout the entire thing. Yet her love for him seems so superficial. Did she really love him? Or was it merely admiration? Whic...more

Fairy Tale was a light read. Unique, it was somehow more realistic for me. This is due to one factor: when Cam changes into a fairy, he shrinks. I like reading everyone's perceptions of fairies but this is the one form that strikes with me. Cam's transformation from a human teen to a fairy king is barely noticeable. Other than one part about his commaniding gaze and the fact that he orders Dawn (his advisor/future wife) around, he's still the same lovable Cam.

I've never read fairy stories before, unless you count The Mortal Instruments in which fairies don't appear much. This is the first book that the fey were the main characters. I liked the book. I liked Morgan's wit and humor. Chick Lit combined with stories of the fey.
I cried in the end of the book, when Cam left something for Morgan and she still remembers, even though it's a distant memory. I liked how Pip's and Cam's character changed throughout the story. I felt the transitioning period, alt...more

I really enjoyed this book! It started and ended with one book! Authors don't do that to much even though I would love. Book 2 where book 1 left off, don't want to spoil the book for everyone. Morgan our main female character is dating and has been dating Cam since there were 5, they are the perfect couple. He is star quarterback for the high school and she is always in the stands watching. Then a week before their 16 birthdays (they have the same birthday) Cam turns distance and almost sickly....more

Fairy Tale is Cyn Balog’s first novel.
Morgan Sparks is a sophomore and goes to Stevens High. She is a psychic and often tells people at her school what will happen later on in their life when they ask. This novel is completely addicting. I brought it to school today and was reading it hidden under my desk all day. I had to know what happened.
I loved the fact that the book was written from the human's point of view. Morgan is seeing the change but not actually experiencing it. I'm surprised that Morgan being psychic isn't talked about in the blurb. Especially because she bases a lot of what she thinks on what she sees in her visions. “When I feel comfortable enough that he is not going to trip me, I manage to look down, and see that his feet are gliding gracefully on the floor in his bloack loafers. He's even doing this very hot rhythmitic figure eight with his hips. Maybe it's the music that's growing on me, or it's that I'm giddy from not having had anything to eat except half a miniquiche, but after a moment or so, I start to move my hips, too. And suddenly, I'm breathless again, but in a good way. Once Pip gets into the groove, he stops looking at the instructor and his eyes fasten on me. So close like this, they're shocking in their brilliance, so light blue as to be almost white. Like silver medallions moving back and forth on a chain, they're hypnotizing. Where did they come from? I swear they weren't so beautiful a day ago, when we were sitting in the food court, talking about ewl and popping stag mints. " Where did you learn to do this?" I whisper in his ear, still unable to break from his gaze. " Faries love to dance. This is similar to one of theirs," he explains as he slows to near a stop. His eyes focous on Fit Lady again, and before I can ask what he's doing, he expertly glides his leg out from underneath his body, dragging his foot on the ground. " Yours should follow him," Fit Lady says, watching my legs. ...then I feel her hand on my leg, pulling it up into the air. I toddle about on one leg like a top that's about to fall, so Pip steadies me, and I hold on so tight to his arms with my sweaty hands as to cut off his circualtion. But he doesn't seem to mind. I watch as she grips my leg at the knee and pulls it, higher, higher … almost to Pip's hip level, then force me to extend and curve it around him. Ow, I am not a pretzel. " What are you doing?" " Gancho," she says. " Just take your leg up and wrap it around his body." " Wait. Wh- wh-at?" He's still staring at me with those amazing eyes as I push him away, falling back onto my elbows with a deafening crack.”
