I won't bother rating this, it wouldn't be fair since I never did finish. This is the first in a series and unfortunately for me, it didn't hold my attention. I think after 115 pages, I could make that assessment confidently. I couldn't connect with the main characters or any other characters for that matter. It wasn't necessarily slow, but it didn't go anywhere either. Katie, the heroine fell flat for me. And worse, Zach, the male lead was as interesting as a stale cracker. For a charac

First I want to say that I cannot believe the people that gave this book only two stars! Whaaaaa? Are you demented!? This book rocked! It knocked my socks off! It gave me spontaneous orgasms! Okay, now I'm just getting carried away, but still. Only two? Crazies!

I think it's needless to say considering the above comments that I loved this book. Loved it. The Seductive One is still my favorite of the series but I think that this one was still really great. I will admit that there were some flaws a

I'm on a roll! Seriously, I cannot stop reading! Those books are wonderful, and I so love female bonding stories!

The book is about 4 sisters, Marcelli sisters, who, with half of the family Italian and the other half Irish, are in big troubles ;) All the family wants for them is to get married and have tons of babies.

This first book is all about their stories and relationships, even if it's focused on the first sister, Katie, who's a wonderful business woman, who is going to accept the challenge

The Sparkling One (Marcelli, #1): A quick 5 star read with a great start to a series

Now, I really enjoy this novel. It reminded me of the wedding planner with Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey

Three awesome things about this book

1. The Family

There is a big emphasis on family in this book. We are talking serious Italian wine makers here. They are so Italian for a minute i thought they were all immigrants. The family was lovely yet heartbreaking. The traditions and emphasis on loyalty and lov

I'm not sure what it is about certain books, but sometimes when it's just what you need, at the right time, and your in the right frame of mind...it's like magic. You completely enjoy yourself throughout, submit to the wonderment, and then at the end you're left with warm fuzzies and contentment and a sense of hope.
I love that moment when you shut a good book and there is a mixture of feeling. It's bittersweet.

kesinlikle harikaydı! yazarın akıcı ve espirili anlatımına hayran olmamak elde değil. hele kız kardeşler arası atışmalar ve iki esas karakterimiz Katie ve Zach'in çekişmelerini okumak müthiş eğlenceliydi. kesinlikle tavsiye ediyorum. :D

UMMMMM what even was that ending? Pretty classic Susan Mallery except this family was so freaking weird. Katie is the most tolerable and least annoying of her entire family....how am I going to enjoy reading about anyone else?

This is Susan Mallery’s first book in her ‘Marcelli Sisters of Pleasure Road’ series.
The series is centered on four sisters; Francesca, Brenna, Mia and Katie and their Hacienda family home in California. The Marcelli estate is also a prosperous vineyard, and all four sisters feel pressure from their Grandfather Lorenzo to produce sons and a future heir for the wine company.

‘The Sparkling One’ is the first book in the series, and concerns middle sister, Katie. At the beginning of the book Katie,

I received this book in a Goodreads swap. I picked it out among many different books partly because I wanted a lower shipping rate and partly because I could not resist getting more books (I'm a book junkie - what can I say?). It is the first book in the Marcelli Sisters series surrounding a family of four sisters raised in a strong Italian family on a winery.

I loved the concept of family in this book. The entire family is present, the grandparents having lots of say in decisions, and home bein

Oh my, my.. this was such a refreshing re-read... The last time I read this book, I did not bother with a review.. That time, I was more interested inn reading the story rather than interpreting my version!

Now, it is different.. It is little surprise that I am immensely enjoying reading about the sisters!! Their bond and love for one another and their crazy grands are all very entertaining...

Susan Mallery is one of my auto-read authors, I completely adore her books!! Her story telling is always

This was a fun cute read about the Marcelli sisters and their eccentric Italian/ Irish family. Katie and Zach are instantly attracted to each other when they first meet, Katie is determined to find her prince charming and her happy ever after while Zach is just trying to get Katie into his bed along with having her as his ally. Katies younger sister, Mia is engaged to Zachs son David, but Zach is not happy about the engaged eighteen year olds and must do everything in his power to break up this ...more

I used to read romances almost exclusively, but several years ago I transitioned away, branching out into a variety of new genres. But every now and then I feel the need to pick up a book that has a simple, happy love story. No doubts that everything will turn out okay. It's simplistic. Easy to read. Lighthearted. And Susan Mallory never fails to deliver a wonderful story. She weaves a timeless tale of love and happy endings that never fail to make my heart feel lighter. I really enjoyed this bo ...more

4.5 stars. #1 in the Marcelli series. The entire cast of characters are charming and funny and fun, making this book a very enjoyable read. Katie is a party planner who is hired by Zach (a cut-throat divorce lawyer) to organize a charity event of the firm. His ulterior motive is to get her to help him break up the engagement of his 18-year-old son and her younger sister. I really enjoy Susan Mallory as a writer and I believe I will enjoy the series she has written about the four Marcelli sisters. As the oldest sister, self-employed party planner Katie Marcelli is approached by a big law firm to run their annual fundraiser. Hmmmmm (sticking tongue out of the side of my mouth trying to figure out what to say). I kind of liked it. It didn't jump out and grab me, but I liked it. I sometimes get annoyed when a smart, independent, self assured heroine melts like buttah over a kiss and all sense of logic goes out the window and she starts thinking with her johnson, well, if she had a johnson she'd be thinking with it. Anyway. Can't a heroine just haul off and smack the egotistical hero first? So, when I get past that (an ...more

I absolutely loved this book; Susan Mallery did an excellent job painting a romantic world in this one! The sense of Family plays a significant part in the elements of this novel that most people can relate to their own in some way, shape or form. I also loved how the relationships progressed between the characters. However, I wasn't too excited about the ending of the book but I guess that's why there's another book after this one. Anyways, All-in-all I would recommend this one for any person w ...more

The Marcelli family gets introduced in this series by Susan Mallery. I will say that this book was great, beautifully written with a storyline to die for and characters to love. This one is Katie 's story, she meets Zach who she pretends to be interested in at a family dinner so her family will get off her back about marriage. What she didn't expect was him and his son showing up at her sisters engagement dinner. Each being David's father wanted to end it, and tried to get Katie to help what nei ...more

Katie Marcelli, party planner, was hired by Zack Stryker to handle his company's charity ball. He failed to mention that his ulterior motive was that he wanted to get to know her, because his son had just proposed to her younger sister. He wanted an alley, willing or blackmailed, to help him break up their wedding.

Why I picked this up: Having read other books in this series, I thought that I should go back to the beginning.

Why I finished this: The motives and situation were much stronger and cle

The first in a romance trilogy of sisters in a large Italian family in wine country, California. They've got grandma doing her rosary beads and the younger generation talking about sex and general irreverant topics, but they all come together to make a wedding dress by hand, when one of their own becomes engaged. Family--and their pressure to conform to tradition--is a strong theme of the book. I liked that although the story is about the romance of one person, the other family members have thei ...more

This book made me realize several things. First, my mother and Gram are saints. Literally! Second, my husband is more romantic than Zach (he made me type that). Third, there are apparently commandments in the Italian Bible that make me thankful I'm not Italian. I have a hard enough time with the first ten. Finally, any book that uses the phrases "hunk-in-a-suit" and "sacrificial distraction" and has little old women passing innuendo over family brunch is just plain hysterical. I was crying!
