Ms. Lindsey I have enjoyed your books in the past and will enjoy them in the future. But please I beg you, brush up on your basic grammer skills. The constantly misused explanation points are wearing.
I have never liked a romance novel hero less than I liked Rupert. He was arrogant, judgmental, crude, and willfully obtuse. The only times he's remotely kind to Rebecca is when he's coming on to her, but then he turns it around and accuses her of trying to seduce him. I'm not quite done with the book yet, but I have not yet seen a reason that he deserves redemption. And Rebecca. Oh, honey. Please don't tell me you're going to let Rupert walk all over you and then forgive him in a heartbeat becau...more
A crudely stitched patchwork of mismatched pieces.
The arrival of Rebecca Marshall at Buckingham Palace as a new maid of honor and the details of personal and political intrigues at the court of Queen Victoria were refreshingly different, but as the narrative rushed nowhere and finally disintegrated, I was left wondering about the authenticity of the historical detail.
First impressions of Rebecca are of a beautiful, intelligent, and self-assured lady, sparking anticipation of her part in the sto...more

While I liked this story and the characters I was a little disappointed with Lindsey in this book. There was some use of language so obviously out of that time frame that I actually had to pause and think about what I was reading. I wouldn't necessarily expect perfection in language, but the use of current slang for something set in this time frame is outrageous. Besides that the story was off to a good start. I still thought I was going to like it more. I actually liked both Becca and Rupert. T...more
My "escape" reading, which is total smut, is Johanna Lindsay--romance novels. I actually own every novel she's written and have reread most of them. There's my dirty little secret!
Good point! I feel like a quitter if I don't finish a book that I've started, which is kinda weird.
Some that I've loved lately: "Under the Banner of Heaven" by Jon Krakauer and "Freakonomics" I've read twice. Really enjoyed "The Help" and "Cane River" by Lalita Tademy.

I picked this up at a drug store last night because I have loved Johanna Lindsey's books in the past (her princess series in particular) and saw it on the shelf as I checked out. I was just going to glance at it and go back to my current reads but I couldn't put it down and ended up finishing it one night. It's a quick read, and admittedly there aren't a lot of surprises in it which is why I gave it 4 rather than 5 stars. But if you're looking for a sweet romance to pick you up, this certainly f...more
This is the first Johanna Lindsey book I have read. I wasn't disappointed in 'A Rogue of My Own' although the spy scenes in my opinion were a little lacking in thrill and adventure but I suppose that is a bit much to expect from a historical romance novel or at least the ones I have read. In my opinion a great historical romance fiction novel is made great by a few factors. One the characters must be charming. I believe the characters in this book were pretty likable up until the end where I fel...more

I can't give this book more than one star for three main reasons:
1. 2/3 of the way into the book I'd yet to find any reason why these two shouldn't just walk away and forget the other existed. They argued and tried to spite each other through most of the book. And yet at the end the reader is suppose to believe that suddenly all is forgotten and they live HEA.
2. I couldn't stand the female lead. She was so annoying and whiny.
3. If I find myself laughing my butt off during an intimate scene and r...more

I’ve read a lot of Johanna Lindsey’s books and while the majority of them I liked, there were some misses for me so I was a bit hesitant to pick this book up seeing that the synopsis didn’t really catch my attention that much. But I decided to start reading it anyway.
Story wise, I’m not too impressed as it was a very basic plot and it was okay, not the best and not the worst that I have read. There were some grammatical mistakes that I think should have been looked at before getting this book p...more

Did not Like this one at all, and I am A HUGE fan of Her Work. To me this one Had too many negatives for me to Even attempt to read it all the way through. I made it half way through if that...and that was Pushing it.
The Main Male Character Was Extremely Unlikable IMO. One of his first encounters With the Main Female, he grabs her breasts. Big turn off, and he was Way to Cocky and full of himself for me to even attempt to like him.

Again she is my favorite Romance Novelist since her romance novels are the only one's I can even bare to pick up to read! And she doesn't disappoint with this book. I was pleased to happen upon it at the library last week! I think she has a true knack for adventureous plot and a very interesting love lust. The best part is how both parties seem to be so passionate in any emotion and therefore cause much trouble when they believe the other is just tormenting them when infact they are both in love...more

Really, this book should be called "A Rogue! Of My Own!" ! !!!! (JL loves her some exclamations. DC prefers to not see them).
I keep doing this. I pick up a JL book, thinking it sounds interesting. And it always does. And then I read it. And it stops being interesting after the first chapter. Even worse is when I'm re-reading a JL book because I didn't recognize it at first. Clearly, she has staying power in my mind.

This was my first Johanna Lindsey book. I read it in a day, it was a good guilty pleasure. It is nice to have a book that doesn't work your brain too much and just let you relish in a romance. I'm not usually a romance reader, this is my first one but I'm sure I'll look into another of her books. I liked that the characters tried to fight their feelings for one another and bickered. It gave it just enough reality, because isn't that what most people do when they fall in love, try to pretend that...more

I had never read a Johanna Lindsey novel until last year when I picked this one up. After the first few chapters, I skimmed through until I reached the end.
The story started off strong, but then the hero and heroine spent 3/4 of the book arguing about not trusting each other. Nothing really HAPPENED until the ending climax and even that was rather anti-climactic.
As far as love scenes, I understood the first one's briefness, but I hoped the last reconciliatory one would be much more romantic. N...more

This is a nice change from her Malory family disaster. Ok, I do like the family, but there is only so many characters who are allowed a love story in the same extended family (which includes the Andersons and the random other illegitamate children popping up everywhere).
I listened to this story rather than reading it, yet I really liked it. Rupert was one of my favorite types of characters, except for his insane bullheadedness toward Rebecca's explanations. Rebecca was a little dull. Oh well, Ru...more

I almost didn't read this book. It received mediocre at best reviews on amazon. However, I picked it up at the library yesterday on a whim and stayed up late to finish it the same day. Rebecca and Rupert were not my ideal hero/heroine in this one. The characters both made stupid mistakes and assumptions about each other from the very beginning. The story was completely unbelievable and felt as though it was thrown together. It gets two stars from me because although I liked it, I feel it was rea...more

This was a quick, easy read. The story was not complicated and could have been told more quickly, but there were several little rabbit trails that were only hinted at and that I wish the author had spent more time exploring. I am sure that Amanda has a book of her own, but I would like to have read a bit more about the relationship between Sarah and Lord Alberton. Or about Julia or Lilly. Or about Rupert's earlier escapades. It just seemed like something else could have been squeezed into all th...more

I enjoyed A Rogue of My Own more than others of Johanna Lindsey's I've read, but there were some elements of it that didn't do much for me. It includes the "got pregnant after one interlude" plot device (a common theme in her work?) where the protagonists have to reconcile to their situation and eventually come to like and love each other. That said, the setting early in the book, with a peek inside Buckingham Palace and the inner workings of court life, was interesting, and I enjoyed that.
Ok…so I love all these books. I read this in no time – it is lite and entertaining. I do have to admit though that I was a little disappointed. The book starts off okay, with a lot of detail. A lot of talk about the political parties of the time, but then it goes nowhere with it. It feels like it wants to be way more than it is. It gives you a lot at the beginning and then you hit a wall. The focus shifts completely and all the potential is lost. So much could have been done with the secondary c...more

In genre fiction, you usually get the benefit of all the research the author has done in order to make their story believable. I was actually excited about this one BECAUSE i hadn't read anything about Victoria's court and was looking forward to learning something about it. Instead this story does everything EXCEPT show anything about Victoria's world, and turns into some sort of farce about spies and gun running and you don't even see Victoria once, only hear about her in the next room kind of...more
Although Lindsey is one of my favourite authors I was highly disappointed with A Rogue of My Own. I was enjoying reading my way though the Reid family, thinking it would be another malory family type hit for me, considering that is my favourite series. But this book seemed almost rushed and left me thinking; "that's it?" Personally I still enjoy reading lindsey and will continue to read up on the Reid family but I don't think I will read this again and I hope none of the other books are as poorl...more

Johanna Helen Howard was born on March 10, 1952 in Germany, where her father, Edwin Dennis Howard, a soldier in the U.S. Army was stationed. The family moved about a great deal when she was young. Her father always dreamed of retiring to Hawaii, and after he passed away in 1964 Johanna and her mother settled there to honor him.
