Can summer be truly summer without Cousins Beach? It used to be that Belly counted the days until summer, until she was back at Cousins Beach with Conrad and Jeremiah. But not this year. Not after Susannah got sick again and Conrad stopped caring. Everything that was right and good has fallen apart, leaving Belly wishing summer would never come.

But when Jeremiah calls sayin...more

Favourite Quote: "I stared at him. Did he really say that? Did he remember? The way he looked back at me, one eyebrow raised, I knew he did. And this time, I was the one to look away.
Because I remembered. I remembered everything."

Don't you love it when the second book in a series is way better than the first? That is the case with It's Not Summer Without You. I enjoyed The Summer I Turned Pretty but sometimes f...more

I'm really surprised I actually liked this, Belly's still immature, but she didn't bother me as much. Plus, something actually happened in this book, I'm addicted here. (view spoiler)[Though I don't appreciate the love triangle. (hide spoiler)] It's also nice to see more of Jeremiah, since he was this really bland character in The Summer I Turned Pretty.

It would seem Cousins Beach, where Belly, Conrad, Jeremiah, Susannah and Belly's mother spent every summer to date isn’t done with them quite yet.

Belly is grieving two losses, one being her mothers best friend Susannah who was a mother figure to her, and Conrad who never really called back or initiated any interest after she left. Worse still, her mother seems to be in a world of her own, a world that Belly isn’t a part of. With her best friend forcing her to move on, and her mother ignoring her...more

This summer book is nostalgic. It speaks to your heart of hearts. But it's tough in that "life goes on" kind of way. Summer doesn't last forever. Moments fade into memories. Jenny Han communicates that in a really heartbreaking sort of way.

The second book in the Summer trilogy has a lot of back-and-forthing. Belly flips from pining over Conrad to hating him in the flip of a heartbeat. Jenny Han also writes some of the book in Jeremy's POV, which is pretty much my favorite part. He's sweet and tr...more

SPOILER ALERT!

I'm Kind of mad at this book because everything was going so well, they found conrad and they got the house and then all 3 of them went on the road so that conrad could take his exams. We got the feeling that it would all be alright between conrad and belly because he was being kind of nice to her again. And then she fucking kisses jeremiah back!!! Like out of nowhere. Like she hadn't been complaining about how life would suck whithout conrad and shit. Like she wasn't wearing the n...more

Note: I had a hard time writing this review because I really did try to do away with the spoilers. It's hard describing things without giving anything off.

It's Not Summer Without You is a sequel to The Summer I Turned Pretty. In my review of The Summer I Turned Pretty I mentioned that the most interesting part of the book for me was the ending, it was enough to make me want to read the next book. And so here it is.

I think everyone deserves fair warning: The book is mildly heartbreaking but in...more

This is book two in the Summer series so if you haven't read the first "The Summer I turned Pretty" then stop and turn around, go back and do yourself a favor and read the book that has started it all. Okay, now I feel like I can continue...I was deeply impressed how the whole plot grew beyond the original story line, it was impossible to put down and I read it in one afternoon. The second ultimate beach read, one with a bit of autumn and serious coolness to it, chilled my soul with luxuriously...more

I will be reviewing is It's Not Summer Without You by Jenny Han. This book takes place in Cousins Beach. The main characters are Belly, Jeremiah and Conrad. The novel is based on their relationship struggles with each other, but also within their families. They all find themselves missing Susannah who is Conrad and Jeremiah's late mother. The main conflict in this novel is how Belly cannot choose which one of the boys she loves. This causes tension between the boys and many large fights. In the...more

Like the first book, every chapter is a snippet of memories that weaves the whole story. Though in the first book, it was just Belly's perspective, while in here, Jeremiah & Conrad also partake in the story.

Here, I would describe Belly as a brat. She has mood swings, tantrums, and being childish. But I guess because she is still one. She is a young lady that copes on hard situation that is new to her. Like Conrad who is brooding, and keeping his problems, feelings and thoughts to himself. J...more

It's Not Summer Without You

What if you were in love with two people that you knew your entire life? Doesnt sound too bad, but what if they were siblings. Isabella or "Belly", most people call her, knows exactly how that feels. Belly falls for brothers Jeremiah and Conrad that she has known all her life. She is returning to Cousins beach to see them and their mom Susannah for another fun filled summer. Except, this summer is slightly different. Susannah is sick with cancer and Belly...more

In this realistic fiction novel, Belly Conklin has gone to the summer house in Cousins beach every summer of her life from the time that she wore diapers to the time that she wore bikinis. Belly’s mother’s best friend, Susannah, has two boys named Jeremiah and Conrad, and she believes that Belly is destined to be with one of her sons. This year, after years of battling cancer, Susannah has finally lost. For the first time in her life, Belly isn’t at the beach house, but is spending the summer i...more

I loved the first book in this series, The Summer I Turned Pretty. It was awesome. But It's Not Summer Without You is better.
The summers that Belly has looked forward to for the whole of her life will never be the same again. This summer, Belly is facing a boring summer at her own home with Taylor. So when she gets the phone call saying that Conrad has disappeared, she jumps at the chance to find him and see the Fisher boys again. But she has a choice to make. Conrad, or no Conrad?

To put it simply......I have a girl crush on Jenny Han. I really do. And yet I still can't describe the reasons why I love this series so very much. Jenny totally avoids the second books slump and delivers another painfully accurate portrayl of how it feels to be a teenager in a head vs heart dilemma, with the twist of the two boys being brothers. GASP! I love brother love drama!

I don't know how you can't read these books and NOT become so incredibly invested in what happens to these characters....more

I'm glad I read all of the Summer books.
Without this second book, I probably would not have gotten a complete picture of Jeremiah. It's kind of bitter-sweet given what he felt for Belly.

He feels for Belly, what she feels for Conrad.

At the same time, I found myself disliking Belly a little. The decision had been made, but nothing had changed for her... everything bad that she felt, was her making (Well, add all that Conrad did, but still.)

Okay...this whole series is AMAZING! But, this is a review for people who have NOT READ THIS BOOK, so if you have, you may visit my blog, (which I will add a link to) where you can read my review, that may have a few spoilers...so I'm writing this for those of you who are pondering reading this great novel. :)

The beginning was particularly boring. The way she introduced the characters we already knew was very slow. and not direct (which is not always good. but in this case i think that would have worked better.) In the first book i was very excited to see Susannah again. But little did i know that on the second page she's dead. Which left the two boys very depressed. A little later in the book Jeremiah calls Belly saying Conrad is gone. Belly <1>immediately grabs his book and helps conrad ! wa...more

Why I decided to read this book:
I decided to read this book because I had previously read the first book in the series and it was really interesting so I went on to order the second book in the series and it was really good.
Which book on the bingo board does this tick off?
This book ticks of a book that teaches you about a culture other than your own. This book teaches about the older teenage years and is all about growing up from being young and becoming mature. This category is interesting beca...more

I fell in love with The Summer I Turned Pretty and right then and there I knew this was going to be a great series to read and fawn over. And heck, I was right. :)

Belly's lucky to have guys care for her and not just in a romantic way but in a family way kind of care. Those boys treated her like a little sister and I was kinda a bit jealous of it (to say the least) having no brother and all.

But seriously, this book was way better than the first one. I loved how it centers on four teenagers and ye...more

It's 3 or 4 stars. I'm going with 4, because I like the writing style and I liked the first book. This book, like the first in the series, combines the main character Belly's present day experiences with memories of interactions with the boys at the beach house. This time, we get Jeremiah's point of view as well. A difficult year has passed since the last book. Now, Conrad has walked away from summer school, and Jeremiah asks Belly to help find him. In the first book, Belly had a lot of frustrat...more

This book can be called "Puberty doing it's own job" lol. And yea she got boobs. After reading a chapter or two, I was glistened up that the author wrote from another perspective, which is Jeremiah's. I was looking forward for a Conrad's perspective but there weren't and maybe there will be in the last book (HAHA). From the time I was in the part where Conrad was nowhere to be found, I actually thought of John Green's Looking for Alaska (Where obviouslly they're looking for Alaska, where Alaska...more

For the book review assignment I read the novel called “It’s not summer without you” by Jenny Han. This book is about two families that were extremely close and who would spend every summer together since the children were born at one of the family’s beach house in Cousins. Belly and Jeremy are brother and sister and Conrad and Jeremiah are brothers. Ever since they were all just children Belly would always try to fit in with the three boys who were a few years older than her but she was always...more

After Susannah, Belly's mother's best friend, died from breast cancer, Belly's closest family and friends were affected by Belly's breakdown. Susannah was the next thing to a mother to her and they've been through so much together in their beach house with Susannah's boys and Belly's family. Unfortunately, not only did Belly have a breakdown, Susannah's husband is putting their beloved summer house for sale! Conrad, Susannah's eldest son found out and he dropped everything and tried to save it....more

Finished it in like 3 hours lol I got so hooked, I can't seemed to put it down. Read it right after I was done with the first one.

I'm left to wonder why either of these brothers are still interested in her, other than we've been told that she grew some nice-sized boobs and is now quite a beauty. But to tell you the truth, she really ain't that worth it.

I mean she's not that smart and certainly not that nice either (( have you read the way she always treats her best bud? I mean Taylor's not much...more

I chose this book because I had read the first book and I was just curious about what would happen in the second one.The plot of the book is about how a seventeen year old girl named Belly falls in love with Conrad. Conrad is always quite and doesn't express his feelings, unlike his brother Jeremiah who is sweet and lots of fun. At last who will Belly choose? Conrad or Jeremiah? My favorite quote was “I didn't want to make the same mistake my parents made. I didn't want my love to fade away one...more

I just finished the book Shug by Jenny Han. It was a good book, but not a book that I would pick for myself to read. I like action and mystery. This book had more girly stuff.
The main character in this book is Annemarie, also known as Shug. I think Annemarie didn’t have the best qualities so that’s why I didn’t like her that much. I also feel that because I didn’t like the main character is why I didn’t enjoy the book. Shug was to self conscious and cared too much about what people think about...more

I chose to read "It's not summer without you" because it met the criteria on the wide reading hopscotch - A book with a female lead character. This particular category was nothing new, as I usually read books with female leading characters. The blurb on the back also appealed to me and even though it was completely cliche I thought it would be a fun read.
