This is the second book to Vicki Lewis Thompson's Babe's on Broom's. It's about Anica's sister Lily, who has been crushing on this lawyer Griffin. Finally after three months of them ogling one another Lily asks Griffin to go on a coffee date, but he turns her down. His reason is he doesn't think Lily has any plans in her future. He doesn't want to get in a relationship based on lust and get a divorce a few years down the road. He's looking for the real deal and even though he really likes Lily h...more
I got really bored with this book after about 100 pages. I really really wanted to like this book after reading the first book where Anica accidentally turns her lover into a cat. In book 2 we meet Anica's sister Lily, who has a major crush on one of her bar patrons, Griffin. Griffin has made the ultimate decision that Lily is completely wrong for him, so he makes no effort to ask Lily out. Shes to "wild" for him. With Anica's wedding fast approaching, Lily decides to slip Griffin an infactuatio...more

I found this to be a good easy read. I liked the potion (elixir) ideal not real original ideal to write about, but it worked for this book and couple. If you read the first book in this series you found Lily was having a hard time getting Griffin to notice her, so she ends up putting a potion in this drink to see if she can win him. I really liked the emotions in this book it was a roller costar ride, especially when she gives her dog to Griffin. I also liked how Griffin found out Lily was a wit...more
This was a cute fun sexy book to read. Its hard to find a good interesting book about witches, usually the magic doesn't come across well on the written page then most books these days are about vamps. So I was please at well this was written and how much I enjoyed it. The scenes really flow well together. It didn't seem as if they were just trying to make it to the next sex scene it was truly a good plot and story. The only disappointment was with the ending. I felt it all came together to quic...more
Review from Backchatting Books

Lily Revere has been lusting after the hot lawyer Griffin Taylor but although he sends out the right signals, he isn't interested in a relationship. Lily decides to take his freewill away from him and slip a potent love potion into his drink. It works a little too well as Griffin can't bear to be away from her. Unfortunately Lily doesn't know if his feelings are sincere or if they are the manifestations of the love potion.

Lily is fairly self absorbed and incredibly...more
Nowhere near as good as the first book. Glad she doesn't seem to be continuing the series. None of the charm of the 1st book.
I got this book because the first one Blonde with a Wand was one of the first I bought on my Kindle and I loved it!! I am a big fan of Vicki to begin with so I had high hopes for this novel. I shouldn't have built it up in my head so much because I was disappointed. First off, there was no real sense of the characters falling in love so much as falling into bed thanks to the adoration elixir that Lily made. Second it's really hard to not want to shake Lily because she used magic for her own self...more
How could the first book in the series be so good, and the second so bad?

This was one of the most repetitive books I've ever read. Want to know about the plot? Here goes:

*insert magical potion here*

Griffin: Lily's amazing. I want to have hot sex with her.
Lily: Maybe I shouldn't have done this. I'll worry about it after the engagement party.
*they have sex* (hotness is debatable, see below)
Griffin: Why am I acting so crazy? Oh who cares - Lily is amazing! I want to have hot sex with her.
Lily: Ma...more

This is my first Vicki Lewis Thompson book. Oh, don’t gasp too hard! I have a good portion of her books in the old TBR mountain, and as with all of those books in that mountain, time is what keeps me away from the majority of them. But I’m glad I read this one, because now I’m going to be reading more of this author’s books. I had the terrific opportunity to hear Ms. Lewis Thompson’s speech when she won the Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award from RWA in 2008, and her humor stood out in leap...more
Chick with a Charm by Vicki Lewis Thompson is a fun little paranormal romance novel full of magic and gratuitous sex. Even though it is the second in the Babes on Brooms series, it is not necessary to have read part 1, Blonde with a Wand. There are a few references to the earlier novel, but the main point is explained, and this book centers around a different main character.

This is the story of Lily, a wild, fun-loving bartender who also happens to be a witch. During the course of her work, she...more
Chick with a charm
Lily is crushing hard on Griffin and she knows he likes her too but won't make his move. So on a split of a moment idea she makes a love potion and gives it to Griffin. Everything works out in the end. Her and Griffin are together and their happy but it leaves Lily with a question. How much of is real?

My opinion
I liked Lily and Griffin I thought they were cute together. The ending was adorable it made me laugh, but i can't bring my self to adore the book. Griffin attitude,pers...more

Lily is a witch who is trying to find her place. Her sister is getting married soon and the engagement party is this weekend and her parents are coming into town. She doesn't want to feel like a total failure especially since the guy she is crushing on, won't go out with her. She decides to slip an adoration elixir into his drink and boy, does it work....maybe too well.

Lily and Griffin have some really hot scenes but it's a bit creepy with Griffin. He's basically obsessed and just this side of...more
My review cross-posted from Joyfully Reviewed:

Bartender Lily Revere is every bit as untamed a witch as her sister, Anica, is by-the-book. Normally this isn’t a problem, but with Anica’s engagement party fast approaching and Lily’s parents coming into town for the party, the wilder Revere sister has a plan to impress their parents.

Unfortunately for human Griffin Taylor, the man Lily has been lusting after, that plan includes him. Griffin is a divorce lawye...more

In Blonde with a Wand, Anica got herself into a heap of trouble when she turned her date into a cat. After a lot of turmoil and heartache her story ended with a happily ever after but will her sister, Lily, have the same outcome in Chick with a Charm?

It was obvious that Griffin Taylor would never ask her out on his own so Lily decided to give him a magical nudge in the right direction. The nudge worked like a cha...more
We met Lily in the previous book and we see how impulsive and live in the moment she is. This time around Lily is no difference, when the book opens she is determined to do something about the man she has a crush on. So with the help of her trusty dog, Daisy, she brews up a potion that will make Griffin attracted to her and make the attraction stronger every time they have sex. The potion does exactly what it supposed to. As Lily enjoys her time with Griffin slowly the guilt creeps in and Griffi...more

I am torn between 2 or 3 stars for this book. I settled for 2.5 stars because the book's premise is interesting.

Lily is a witch, simple. She brewed adoration potion and mixed it in the drink for Griffin, the hero. I thought it was funny, in the first few chapters. But it just went downhill afterward.

There are lots and lots of unnecessary adoration scenes that make this book unbearable. It just makes me cringed when I imagined the level of adoration Griffin had been bestowing (non stop) to Lily....more

It was hard to get attached to this book for its first half because, while the writing style was both quirky and fun, there was too much pointless sex. I didn't know the characters long enough to invest excitement in their bedroom play...and too much sex without enough story and action becomes dull fast. The book finally started taking off with actual story though, and it had saving graces of being genuinely amusing, cute without sappy, a unique formula plot-wise, and a genuinely "magical" happy...more
This was not NEARLY as good as the first one. It was still fluffy and cute, but 95% of this book was sex scenes. What's wrong with that, you may ask? Trust me, after awhile it was so repetitive I started skipping them to get back to the "plot". The first book had its fair share of sexy time, too, but at least it had a plot. This book literally had nothing going on besides Griffin lusting for Lily and then them having sex. The ending was completely ridiculous, by the way.

I know I sound like I ha...more

I was really excited about this book, until I started reading it. I needed a 'magic wand' for Emily's reading challenge and wanted to read something good. I carefully researched books online, in Novelist, and in the library catalog. I should have checked that review is right in line with what I thought. Basically I read the first chapter and the last chapter of this book and then had absolutely no interest in going any further. I've liked other books by this author, she's got...more

I really enjoyed this book. This is the first book I've read of Vicki Lewis Thompson and I will be reading more of her books. This book is about a twenty-something bar-tending witch who creates an elixir to cause her love "interest" to pay attention to her. Needless to say, the plan backfires. This book is full of humor, romance, drama and nicely written sex scenes. This books is written for adults and contains adult content. I love it. I recommend this book to anyone who likes paranormal romanc...more
Vicki Lewis Thompson is always fun to read!
And after reading Pillars of the Earth I really really needed something fun.
Think of this series as an adult version of the sixties TV show "Bewitched". Just take the magic as a given and just imagine what might happen when it is all taken seriously. Sure, you can make someone fall in love or lust with you. But what are the consequences?
Enough. I don't want to over analyze what is ultimately a fun and satisfying read.

Eeesh! I had difficulty actually finishing this book and the only reason I did is that halfway through, I speed-read the rest. I really didn't like it, hated the whole fixation on sex.

Whereas the first book in the series was interesting due to the unique situation Jasper found himself, I still could relate to how Anica had acted. In this one, I simply had no empathy at all for Lily and for the whole situation.

So a flop for me with this one.

OK, quite frankly, didn't care for this one quite as much. It followed a similar theme, but was about younger sister Lily slipping an adoration potion into the drink of her crush. The result? He becomes obsessed with her and pretty much turns into a love slave. I don't know, the messing with free will thing was just a tad too creepy for my taste, but I can see where it would have its appeal for some.
I would've gave this book 2 stars, but I liked the dog, Daisy, (probably more than the main characters)so much I gave it 3 stars.

After reading the first book in the series, Blonde With a Wand, I had high hopes for this book. However, it fell short of my expectations. Don't get me wrong, it was a decent read, but I expected better. It dragged a bit, and didn't keep my attention.

This book is certainly not the best I've ever read, but it's OK. I'm not one for books whos main focus is the relationship. The book is always about Lily and Griffin. They are constantly having sex like every ten pages (seriously) and more than one of the sex scenes in the book lasted for 20 pages! Ridiculous! (Oh btw the first scene is like 40 pages of sex)

Recommends it for: All my paranormal romance buddies
I really liked this story about Lily & Griffen. It was light, funny and hot in all the right spots! It kept me entertained and I didn't want to put thebook down. Apparently there are another 3 books lightly relating the other characters in these 2 books so I'll probably make the effort to read those as well. 4/5

This book will make you laugh and cry. It is the first time in a long time I had a book that made me cry a wee bit :) It's well written and as a #2 in a series, I enjoyed how the author wove both books characters together without feeling like you missed something if you didn't read book #1.

Ugh. I liked the first book so much better. For the most part, this wasn't a bad book. It was just boring and slow and I really didn't find anything about the characters that was relate-able or likable. The book was just...flat. And disappointing as I really enjoyed the first one.

It's impossible to read a Vicki Lewis Thompson book without a big huge grin on your face. I loved this one--great hero, Griffin is a little uptight, but sexy as anything. Lily's an original free-spirited witch. Dog Daisy was adorable. Just an all-around, feel-good read.
