Brief History:

When I first heard about Marvel making a separate X-Men series entitled “Ultimate X-Men,” I was a little hesitate in reading it at first because it was going to be a totally different version of the classic X-Men series that I grew up with. But when I read this small collection of “Ultimate X-Men” stories written by Mark Millar along with artwork by Adam Kubert, I was actually blown away by how interesting and exciting this collection really is!

So, wow. Really cool. I didn't read all the extra stuff at the back, I was too itchy to get onto the second collection...

Alright, part one is Tomorrow People, which is such a great story because I love Magneto against Professor X. (I saw First Class prior to reading this, so I was primed for good chemistry, and even though they only meet face to face for a short time, you know these guys have history. It's different than the movies, but they're killer, for sure.)

Next part is More...

This book is a retelling of the X-Men story and I enjoyed it. Although I can't say that I ever quite got used to the new character designs, and whoever thought that 'Marvel Girl' was a good codename for Jean Grey, needs to think again!

The three stories included are:

The Tomorrow People, which sees Professor Xavier bringing together the X-Men to fight Magneto. Magneto sends Wolverine to kill the Prof but things do not go according to Magneto's plan!

Millar has a knack for creating rich characters and engaging dialog, with just enough humor to keep it fun. After meeting Mark at Wizard World Chicago 2007, I can say that his writing is most definitely a mirror of his personality.

If you've ever wondered where to start with X-Men, but were concerned you'd encounter flat, stereotypical hero archetypes, this is the book for you. Millar will suprise you. And the art is simply amazing, to boot.

It's only in the past year that I really began to dig into the back history of the X-Men, reading all of the Astonishing issues up to the early 1990s, and reintroducing myself to characters I'd only known through the cartoons and the new issues.

Here is the giant reset button for the regular series. I'm wondering what happened to cut Angel out of the opening cast, but I love the modern take on the x-men and it was a relief to escape from a lot of that cluttered, awkward continuity that More...

I kind of loved this!

It certainly has come the closest to the kind of X-Men story I want to read. I like that the characters are written and (somewhat) drawn as teenagers. The interactions and relationships make much more sense as well as the drama. Some of my favorite characters are there: Nightcrawler, Ice Man, and Storm. The story is wonderfully complicated and there is some great early artwork by the Kutberts. I will definitely continue reading this series!

Super great introduction the Ultimate X-men. My only complaint about this volume (and in a way it could be applied to all of the ultimate X-men series) things at time seemed to rushed. In this volume especially the first 20 pages or so. I wish they would have taken more time easing into things and introducing people and things one step at a time instead of bing bang boom here's the x-men lets fight.

I forget how much I enjoy a good graphic novel... it's fun to read somthing completely different than what I've been into recently. And this one has great graphics and a good story line. It was a great read! I liked the concept of reinventing the X-men and following a new story line, allthough I am a huge fan of the original x-men this one was very well done and I really enjoyed it.

Pretty good X-Men reboot. I'm finding I have no tolerance anymore for shit dialogue. People just don't call other people 'mister' and 'bub' unless they are reproaching three year-olds. Ok, so you can't cuss, but why add in retarded stuff like this? What does it say about our culture that kid-friendly books can have mass murder, but can't say 'asshole' or 'bastard'?

I like how I was able to get into and be introduced to characters. It was fun and intense. One little minor note, I was annoyed when everyone kept using "boys and girls". I wish they chose alternative "cool" saying. 1-2 times fine after that, it was like, really?

It is a comic book so your milage may vary. But this compilation of the first 12 issues of Ultimate X-men actually started out really good. But soon the story quality fell to the traditional sloppy writing of most comic books. Reading the afterword was really entertaining where they talk about how the Ultimates was Marvel reconnecting to todays kids.

It's hard enough to keep track or stay on top of the plethora of alternate timelines in Marvel or DC comics. The Ultimate X-Men is another alternate timeline series.

It's hard for me not to think what's the real origin of each characters as I read along. However, the Ultimate X-Men is somewhat easier to follow. This particular series seems to be popular with gay comic freaks because there are some gay characters, such as Colossus. I mean, who would've thought of that!

Decent I guess. Unlike some of the other graphic novels I've been reading the X-men are a lot more familiar because of the movies. It would be more interesting if the story were self-contained rather than just a reboot- it's hard to generate excitement when it's a given no major characters will be killed because they need to be around for years to come.

I wish the artists would stay consistent over an entire six issue storyline.
