Some of the themes in this series feel familiar from other of Lewis' novels, but I think she is getting better as a writer. I am anxious to see how this will turn out. However, even though the subject matter is TOTALLY different, it reminds me of a Twilight novel in that the characters think about the same problems over and over without taking much action for several pages. I wish they'd hurry up and DO SOMETHING already!

This book was fun to read because it continued the story I started in "The Secret". I wanted to find out how it would all end. It was fast moving, but predictable half way through unlike the first book. The story will continue on to book Three. I have reserved a copy of the next book, "The Telling" just to see how it all ends. It is definitely a trilogy. If you read the first one you have to read all of them to get the whole story. This was the perfect time to pick up th

The fact that I disagreed with pretty much every "moral" this book had didn't really help endear me to it. I was totally on the side of the dad and found Heather one of the most frustrating and anxiety-provoking characters in literary history. Also, the book just didn't go anywhere. I'm now about 1/2 way through the third, and whoever else said that this really didn't need to be split into two books is absolutely right. The Missing and The Telling could have easily been edited and

I guess Amish fiction is all the rage in the christian fiction right now. There were two story lines, in the first the mother of an amish family disappers without telling her family where she lives, the second follows a non-amish "english" girl who is staying at an amish tourist inn. the non-amish girl has cancer but doesn't want to do chemotherapy and instead wants to do an all-natural cure and that hooked me for a while because I wanted to see where the author was going to go with

As always, Beverly Lewis did a great job at portraying the characters in her book. Although sometimes I get impatient for everything to unfold because the ending is somewhat predictable. It's still a great story, in the second book of Seasons of Grace, where Lettie continues her search in Ohio. And Grace, realizing how closed off her father was towards everyone, especially her mother she breaks things off with her quiet fiance. She still has her heart set on finding her mother, and has some hel

Call me old fashion, but every time I read one of Lewis' books I just want time to stop. I love her simplistic writing, it totally matches the simple way of living that the Amish are so known for. There are a few new revelations in this one, but nothing earth shattering. I don't mind that at all, because I read these books for comfort. Visiting the Amish community in her books makes me wish I really knew how to cook from scratch, that I could quilt by hand, didn't care what time it was, and stop

The second novel in Beverly Lewis' Seasons of Grace series, it picks up almost immediately where The Secret leaves off. I enjoyed this one a lot more than I did the first one.
Grace Byler's mother has been missing for several weeks and as the family tries to continue with their lives, they wonder at her reasons for leaving and hope for her return. As Grace begins to piece together the few clues she has about why her mother left, she simply finds more questions. When the young man More...

I enjoyed the first book in this series-The Secret-so naturally I had to pick up The Missing to see how the saga unfolds. This book just drug on and on for me. At the halfway point I couldn't force myself to go on. I know alot of readers will love this book but with so many books to read and so little time to accomplish the task, I cannot see continueing to force myself to simply say I finished it. There is a 3rd book in this series. Based on book 2, I wont be picking up the 3rd novel.

This book is the second installment of the Seasons of Grace trilogy and picks up the pace from the slower moving first book. Young Amish woman, Grace Byler, continues to deal with the absence of her mother while trying to keep the rest of the family together. Nobody knows why Lettie Byler has left her family and Grace is determined to find her and bring her home. In the meantime, Grace befriends a young English woman who is dealing with cancer and Yonnie Bontrager has set his sights on courti

This is continuation in the series "Seasons of Grace." It is not necessary to read the series from the beginning but I think it will make more sense if you do. Lettie has not returned home yet and Grace is so worried about her Mom. Should she try to find her? Does a clue she finds, help or hurt? I really like the Beverly Lewis books -- she gives insight into the Amish life. As we run from one thing to the next, sometimes that life sounds very nice.

I felt the pain of Grace's mother as I read Beverly's words and I also felt the anguish of Grace for her mother's departure. I did figure out who Heather really is though, but mostly because I couldn't stand not knowing and the clues were becoming clearer and clearer as the story went on. I am still anxiously awaiting the next novel in the series though, because I can't wait to see how Beverly brings everything to a close.

This is kind of like current-day historical fiction since it takes place largely in an Amish community. The prose is kind of slow and formulated, but the information about the Amish lifestyle and how the "Englisch" characters interact with the "Plain" is fascinating to me. There are more and more Amish in the county where I grew up, and their lifestyle fascinates me, especially in light of the rapid pace at which technology is infiltrating our modern lives.

If you’re looking for complex, compelling story with dynamic, three-dimensional characters, heart wrenching scenes that will bring a tear to your eye, and a plot that thickens with the turn of every page as you strive to figure out what will happen next, then The Missing is definitely the book to read.Read More...

Much less repetitive and spread out than the first book, the story continues seamlessly and predictably to head towards a final resolution. I still enjoyed it, as the draw of the story is not the reveals - nothing new comes up which I didn't see coming back in book one! - but in Lewis's gentle, homey style. If you're already a fan, her stories are like returning home. If you're new to this author, I would recommend some of her other works before this one.

Grace is missing her mother. In the first book, she broke it off with Henry. Her friend, Becky likes Yonni. Now Yonni likes Grace and Becky and Henry are courting. Is Heather Grace's step sister, the daughter that her mother is looking for? Her mother is in Ohio looking for daughter that her mother forced her to give up? The book ends with Heather and Grace driving to Ohio to find Grace's (and maybe Heather's) mother.

This is the 2nd in this series, it is kind of slow paced, but intersting. About an Amish girl, Grace and her family. Her mother has kept a secret for 24 years, and now is unable to continue to live with the family--she must find an answer. Grace is left to care for her mother's famiy and wonder what is going on. I must read the next one however to find the answers.

Ok...I believe the second installment in this series was better than the first; it wasn't nearly as repetitive, and the plot and characters were further developed. I personally would have preferred for the series to wrap up with this one, and I'm really looking forward to see how everything pulls together in the end. The storyline is predictable, but an enjoyable read.

First of all, I have to admit that I read this without realizeing it was the 2nd book in the the series. Having said that, this was my first Beverly Lewis novel and just isn't my type of book. While it isn't a bad story and I can see why some readers would find her books entertaining I found the writing style, plot, and ending a little too sugary.

This author's writing is VERY easy to read. Before you know it you are 10-15 pages ahead of where you thought you were. Good continuation of the story from The Secret. If you had not read The Secret, however, this book would not be as good. It should be combined into 1 large novel with The Secre and The Telling. Very enjoyable.

Like the first, I'd say this book cannot stand alone. All three books in this "series" are really one long novel that was, somewhat haphazardly, broken up. I'm intrigued and I'd say I care about the characters, so I'm going to finish the trilogy, but I'd be really annoyed if I couldn't just read them back-to-back.

This series is addictive. So many good stories within one book. The characters are wonderfully described. Book one was a slow introduction to this 2nd book. I thoroughly enjoyed the way this book flowed. Just as you were just settled in one character and about to get more information to their situation.....it switches. It sure keeps you reading!

Loved this sequel to The Secret. Grace's search for her mother continues as does Lettie's search for her child. I so love the peaceful yet normal life the Amish seem to lead. Eagerly, I am waiting for the next installment in Grace and Lettie's lives.

This is the second book of the Seasons of Grace series. It is the story of a young Amish girl whose Mother leaves. Grace cannot understand why and begins to try to solve the mystery of her mother's disappearance. I highly recommend this book.

My son purchased me a signed copy of this book for my birthday and I couldn't wait to read it! Ms. Lewis does it again in 'I can't put it down until I'm finished' story! I'm anxiously awaiting the third book in the series...

I never get tired of Beverly Lewis and this one was even better than the last one I read. And I quickly put her next one on hold at the library. She really makes you feel like you are a part of the story.

For some reason the Amish culture has always intrigued me. This story is about a mother whose secret causes her to go missing from her Amish home and risk being 'banned' from her people. I really enjoyed it.

I started the first a long while back and you really should read these books in order and not too long after the other because the author doesn't spend a lot of time catching you up or re going over the first book. The tale picks up and just keeps going. So far Grace is taking care of her father and brothers, her grandmother did give her the address of the old Inn where her mother may be staying in Ohio, Heather is a fancy Englisher who is very sick and wants to take a natural approach to her

I love the Amish series books, but I felt that this one gave away a secret way to early into the book, plus there is another book in the series soon to come out, but there is still enough to keep you reading, just a let down.
