Since coincidence makes the world go round, a friend bought me the first three Blood Coven novels as a Christmas present a few weeks before I received BAD BLOOD. I'm happy that the series has been recovered, since the original covers were cute but lacked homogeniety. As for BAD BLOOD itself, I'm glad it focuses on Sunny rather than Rayne.

Though this is the fourth book in a series, the author does a great job of summarizing the major events of the past three books for new readers. When Sunny's vampire boyfriend is assigned a gorgeous soon-to-be-vampire as his blood mate, Sunny and her twin sister, Rayne, follow the vampires to Las Vegas, where they proceed to dig up dirt that proves the beauty isn't who she says she is, all the while getting to know family members they haven't met before.

(2.5)Yes, I didn’t read the other three books. That could be the possibility as to way the stars are low and why I don’t really know the characters and how they normally act. I actually heard they weren’t themselves in this one, but I can’t really judge. I just wasn’t feeling it in this one.

Magnus doesn’t seem like a very understanding character, but who am I to know? I found Sunny to be very likable but I found her sister to be more interesting. Magnus doesn’t seem like a very understanding character, but who am I to know? I found Sunny to be very likable but I found her sister to be more interesting. I could completely understand her feelings toward the subject of her father. I’d be just as pissed off as Rayne if I found out my father’s little secret he’d be hiding all these years.

I stuck to finish reading the book b/c of Jane, she was a mystery, I wanted to know what was to become of her and of course we all know. For those of you who don’t know, Jane is the blood mate given to Magnus to help him run the coven. Sunny is not too happy about that b/c she’s worried about going all the way with Magnus and with Jane in the way it’s even harder. Magnus does not understand Sunny’s feeling at all about the blood mating and totally brushes off her suspicions about Jane as jealousy.

The whole story revolves around stopping the blood mating and searching for Jane’s past in Las Vegas. That’s were Sunny and Rayne’s father comes in, he lives there of course with his second family.

The ending, in my honest opinion, was completely random. I don’t know if there are any other hints in the previous books, but end seemed thrown together and came out of nowhere. (view spoiler)

Maybe I should’ve read the previous books, but honestly like I said I’m not feeling it. Just to put it out there, for a while there, while reading, I thought the existence of vampires was known to world, but I guess I was wrong. But that’s my fault for not reading the series in order.

In the 4th installment of the Blood Coven Novels. Before moving on to my thoughts, I want to say that I have NOT read the previous Blood Coven novels, and due to that, I probably missed some character development that happened in the previous novels. On the other hand, I can say first-hand that Mari Mancusi skillfully introduced me to the world of the Blood Coven and I was able to quickly grasp the concepts. On the other hand, I can say first-hand that Mari Mancusi skillfully introduced me to the world of the Blood Coven and I was able to quickly grasp the concepts. This review will also be solely focused on Bad Blood without any influence from previous books.

Bad Blood was my first time reading any book in the Blood Coven series, and I was plesantly... surprised? content? I didn't exactly know what to expect, though I thought I would have connected more with Rayne, who emphathizes more with the "dark side." And, no, it's not because of their cookies. However, I actually connected more with Sunny, Rayne's twin sister. Sunny seems like the typical, optimistic fictional blonde, but in reality she's strong and fairly independent. She was a lot more relatable to me than Rayne because Sunny showed human fear but still managed to pull herself through it, while Rayne just seemed confident and more than a little pissed at the world. I thought Rayne was okay, still understandable as a person, but I just didn't feel that connection with her. Either way, I enjoyed the sarcastic banter between the two; there was a solid love-hate relationship going on here, which I could totally relate to given my own sister.

Mari Mancusi's pretty up-to-date, and I liked all the little pieces of pop culture she managed to throw in there. Those tidbits ranged from Katy Perry's "envy-inducing curves" to Hannah Montana and DDR (Dance Dance Revolution). Plus, Final Fantasy equals total love. (Or maybe I'm just a geek.) Either way, the setting was definitely 21st century and made the story and characeters come alive just that little bit more... and a tiny, okay, major portion of why I liked the references were that they were simply amusing, understandable, and made me smile.

Other than the light, fun jokes and good-humored jabs, there was some intense action, romance, and family problems. Basically: nobody's perfect and someone's going to have to pick up the pieces. There were some crazy vampire politics going on here and Sunny and Magnus's relationship greatly suffered because of it. Like my feelings with Rayne, or lack thereof, I don't really have an opinion of Magnus because he just simply isn't there a lot, which is also one of his and Sunny's major problems. I was a little dissapointed with his lack of trust in Sunny though. From a superficial viewpoint, Magnus sounds pretty hot, and I loudly appluad Sunny for not immediately succumbing to his charms all the time, a common fault among pretty boys. Can't say I blame anyone for melting, but hold some semblance of sense together, please!

Finally, the ending. I don't want to ruin it, so all I'm going to say is: WOAH. Total cliffhanger! It was totally out-of-the-blue, but I can't wait to see where Mari Mancusi takes it.

So, I'm not in a good mood while reading this but Mancusi's jokes never fail to make me grin. Or laugh.

In the fourth book of Blood Coven, which was told from Sunny's point of view, her vampire boyfriend, Magnus, has finally assigned to a blood mate, something she's very afraid of. Magnus having a blood mate equals to Magnus having a wife. And where's she gonna be?

In this installment of the Blood Coven Series we join Sunny again as things were finally settling down or so she thinks. I skipped pretty much the middle bulk of this book, usually i try not to even if i'm bored, but with Bad Blood i just didn't see the point. However, from what i did read, this seems like a pretty good book, and it's my attention spans fault and not Mari Mancusi's fault that i couldn't be bothered reading it.

Bad blood us about a mortal named sunny mcdonald. She has a boyfriend named magnus. Everything is perfect about her reletionship with magnus. They were actually planning their night of finally giving up being virgens. Until sunny finds out that magnus was assigned to a blood mate.

I can relate to sunny because she wanted everything to go perfect with magnus and his blood mate ruined everything. She doesn't want to loose her perfect boyfriend because sbityer woman came along in the picture.

After reading the short prologue I felt quite caught up in past events and easily settled into this book.

Sunshine “Sunny” McDonald and her twin sister, Rayne (yes, cutesy weather names) are seventeen years old and live quite the life. Sunny dates the thousand year old vampire Magnus, who is the leader of a big vampire coven. Sunny is a mortal, or at least now is – she was mistaken for her sister in a previous book and was accidentally bit, but was able to reverse the vampire process. Rayne, after a sequence of events in previous books is now a half vampire, half vampire slayer.

The biggest worry in Sunny’s life at the moment is whether she should “go all the way” with Magnus. Rayne, more of the carefree, screw the world sister tells her to go for it, and after much internal deliberation, Sunny decides after the football game, this will be the night. Magnus has rented a hotel room, and he is ready! (Heck he is 1,000 years old..I bet he is!)

However, Sunny will not get her share of booty at the moment. Jane, the person who the coven has chosen to be Magnus’ bloodmate picks this night to show up. Magnus needs someone to help run the coven, and Jane is selected from many applicants. There is to be a meeting of the covens in Las Vegas in a few days and it will be there where Jane will be officially inducted into vampire society and take over her duty to help Magnus. Magnus reassures Sunny that he still loves her and Jane is just there for business purposes only, but Sunny is hurt and confused.

She decides to take matters into her own hand and do some research on this Jane person. Jane supposedly is well educated from Oxford but after a few questions from Sunny, Jane becomes flustered and confused. Sunny gets a strong feeling that Jane is not who she says she is, but Magnus just thinks Sunny is jealous.

Using the excuse to visit their dad in Las Vegas, Sunny and Rayne fly out to crash the coven convention and prove to Magnus that Jane is a fraud.

Bad Blood is a cute, quick read that is sometimes silly, but entertaining nonetheless. This book definitely reads more towards a younger audience – I can see a young teen really enjoying this book. As an adult, it was cute, but not something I would automatically turn to or anticipate in the future.

Sunny definitely thinks like a seventeen year old, even though her actions and what she is allowed to do might portray someone older. She has a pretty fun, lighthearted outlook on life. Both her and Rayne seemed to have a lot of freedom, but of course the book would not have been as interesting if the parents had been hovering about. While the book is told in Sunny’s point of view, I was more intrigues with Rayne and her “bad girl” charades. She used her fake idea to gamble the nights away, and she is definitely more the emotional, in your face character.

Sunny and Magnus are in love, yet in this book I never really felt love from Magnus. Please keep in mind I didn’t read the first three, so I really don’t have their history. In Bad Blood, Magnus treated Sunny more as a petulant child, rather than his girlfriend. Now there is a 983 year difference between them – HA. During her travels to Las Vegas, Sunny meets Jayden, a cute “emo” that she can’t help but fall for, especially as Magnus is ignoring her taking care of Jane and coven business. I really enjoyed the dynamics' in their relationship and hope we have not seen the last of him.

The ending was a little over dramatic, and a bit too easily won by the good guys. The very end opens up an entire new direction for the series to head and many will be chomping at the bit to get the next book.

So, in order to prove him wrong (and save his ass), Sunny goes all the way to Las Vegas where Magnus is attending a meeting...and where this chick will officially become Magnus's blood mate. She and Rayne go here and they meet their step-family...and there is a shocking detail their parents failed to mention to them...and when I say shocking, I mean SHOCKING! Well, it was to me, anyway.

Rayne agreed to help Sunny uncover this lady's (whose name I totally forgot!) dirty little secret while they're in Las Vegas. But Rayne becomes a little...no, not a little, Rayne becomes VERY preoccupied with Poker and the Slot machines. So, now left pretty much alone, Sunny sets out to discover the truth about Magnus's blood mate.

While Sunny is on the mission of saving her boyfriend, she meets a very sweet guy, Jayden, who she may or may not be falling for.

I don't know if I have said this before, but I don't like love triangles...in fact, I hate them! They just complicate things too much and sometimes I totally hate one of the guys and don't want the girl to end up with him and other times I like both of the guys but the girl cant keep them both, now can she? Of course, just because I don't like love triangles doesn't mean I wont read a book with them. If a book sounds good to me I'll read it, love triangle or no.

In this case, I adored Jayden and I already loved Magnus...so that's totally not cool. But I actually didn't really mind this one, I mean, Magnus was being a total jerk-face and Jayden was there for her, so yay. And the million dollar question is...will Sunny be able to save Magnus while trying to not fall for Jayden?

Another character I really liked was their little sister Stormy. She was just adorable and very likable! I really hope to see more of her in future books!

One thing that bothered me, though, was the ending. I usually love twist endings, but this twist ending seemed a bit much...but it was still pretty shocking for me, so I guess its not all bad. I like being surprised (most of the time, lol)!(less)

How can this be happening. Rayne was about to leave. SHe couldnt stand her dad right now. She was glad that their dad wasnt their right now or she would of probably killed him. I mean wouldnt you if you just found out that you had a younger sister and that your dad had cheated on your mom long before they had gotten deforced. ANd then he ran off with this women. How could he. He just doesnt care about us at all. I bet that he never really liked mom. He just wanted to hurt her. Well he did a really good job of that!

Shunshine followed that sleezey awful girl to see what was really up to. It turns out that she has another boyfriend. What? And shes all over Sunshines boyfriend? Gross what a sleezer. Sunshine was so mad to hear that she was ready to go up to her and punch her. How could she? I knoe that shes got to be up to something now. Who has a boyfriend but wants to become a vampire and get a bloodmate? Enless that your planning to take over the coven. I mean what would you say sorry hunny I forever bound to this guy Magnus and we are both vampires. With a capital V. You know we suck peoples blood so dont tempt me? Sick. Sunshine was headed back to the slot machines to go find rayne. But when she got there rayne was surprisingly not there. So now she is headed back to the penhouse to go tell rayne. Ugh and to think that I was actually going to have sex with magnus. How can I be so in love with someone who is suposed to get a new bloodmate and who knows what kind of stuff that there going to be doing. Just the thought of that makes me want to go rip off that horrid sleezy girls head off. When I got back to my dads penhouse my new step-mom was trying to get me to like her. Like what the heck after the night that I have had she best move out of my way before I run her over. My stupid stem-mom in her stupid skimpy shorts. who had a child with my dad while he was still married to my mom not ok. Now please move I need to go find rayne. Ok goodnight I love you! Goodnight. When I open the door to the room that Rayen and I have to share with our step-sister I see Raynes bags packed. Rayne dont. I hate it here, and I hate this family including our stupid dad. Rayne decided to stay to help me. Finally she came to her sences. Rayne? What? I have to... Wait, we have to find out what she was saying to most likely her boyfriend. Well I mean she was kissing that guy. Inless thats the new thing to just start kissing people just because then hes not suppicious at all.... Just kidding they were talking so seriously and the fact that she was trying to find out more. Doesnt that sound suppicious to you? I mean that just makes me angry. I am never going to get over the fact that she has a boyfriend and has to become bloodmates with mine. I mean I am not jelous, well maybe just a little. I mean I would like to become Magnus's bloodmate but I want to be able to go out in the sun and I want to be able to finish high school ya know? If I did become his bloodmate then I couldnt because I cant go out into the sun. I also promised myself that I would never never never drink blood again. Not now not ever. Not animal and especially not human blood. I just love magnus so much. I dont know what I would do with out him. I mean what if there having sex right now? Sunshine leads a complicated life with a complicated family. Magnus, her boyfriend is a 17-year-old looking but actually thousand year old vampire who is head of a coven. I am getting close to the end of the series. Ok halfway through anyways. Another good one is check off my list. This installment takes place in Vegas and is a lot of fun, we have jealousy, surprises, and of course some funny business going on and Sunny and Rayne’s life just keeps getting more and more complicated.

They have a half-sister name Stormy who knows everything dealing with computers and is always playing with her Nintendo DS.

Sunny follow a guy, named Cornelius who really is a vampire when she see him talking to Jane. (Saw both Jane and Cornelius kissing more than like they were brother and sister. The guy leads her to Sun Hotel where Sunny meets a guy named Jayden. There is an audition for a play, Dracula, for someone to play the part of Mina. Sunny got that part. Meanwhile during the day Jayden and Sunny got to know each other and become close. Jayden turns out to be an hemophiliac.

Sunny continues to investigate Jane but it turns out that her real name is Sasha. Jane and Sasha are identical twins. Jane is the one that is suppose to be Magnus blood mate but she is dead. Sasha replaced her sister because Cornelius wants revenge on the Blood Coven for killing his sister. When sunny found this out she is has no where to run because there are savage vampires outside and she is trapped by Cornelius who cannot bite her since she is marked. Cornelius kidnapped Jayden who helped them escape by cutting himself so that the ambulance can get them out since he is a hemophiliac.

Sunny tells Magnus right at the ceremony and Magnus finally listens to her. But Sasha crab the vials of blood and drink it. Rayne then enter the room and stake her. Sunny goes to the hospital to see Jayden. As Magnus walk in the room, he see Jayden and Sunny making. But he understands saying that he is not always around because he's busy with coven work but say that he will make it up to her as long as he live. Jayden and Sunny are friends.

In the end, their mother comes to Vegas and tell them that they are endanger which was the reason why she sent them to visit their dad. It turns out the they are decedents of fairy and they have to return to Fairyland. (less)

This instalment in the Blood Coven series has Sunny as the narrator, like the first book. I have to say, I think I prefer Rayne's narrative, because Sunny is a little whiny and a little bit childish at times. Although, having said this, there were some points in the book that I really enjoyed reading, especially when Sunny was having a pillow fight with Stormy. But I won't spoil who Stormy is.

I love Mari Mancusi's Blood Coven series so it came as no surprise that I liked this one just as much as the others. They are all so light and funny and I adore the sisters! It is great that Mancusi goes back and forth between the sisters points of view for each book. I enjoy getting to read their hilarious adventures! However, I did like Sunny's view because it was nice to see a human's POV in a vampire series that doesn't want to be a vampire, but feels in some situations that she was when she was battling against vampires. Her name does explain her, she finds the good in people and is determined to make her and Magnus' relationship bright up despite what is happening. I will say that I didn't like the constant "likes" and the "totallys" and all the teenage lingo. I'm a teenager, but I don't like when an author tries to make up lingo for their characters. We don't all talk like that. I haven't heard anyone talk in text for a few years now. But, I did like the plot and Sunny's view really made things interesting, including when she branches off to the theater where she meets a cast playing Bram Stoker's 'Dracula'.

Characters: Sunny-Sunny was a great character for this installment. I couldn't help but be drawn into her and Magnus' relationship. It was refreshing to see that she didn't want to be a vampire, but she also didn't want to be old and wrinkled while Magnus was still young. Sunny was great at finding the good at people and knowing when something was going on.
Rayne-I will admit, I was kind of disappointed in Rayne this time around. She kept bailing on her own sister to gamble, what? I wasn't too fond when I read Rayne coming in the scene. She only seemed to care if what she had to do would benefit her. By the end, I did warm up to her and saw what I usually love in Rayne, but I thought it was pitiful that I had to wait until after everything transpired to see the good in Rayne.
Magnus-Magnus was....oh, I honestly don't know. I loved him most of the time, but some things he said to Sunny, I gaped at. I did love how sweet and romantic he was when he talked about his love for Sunny. But, I couldn't stand him when he didn't believe Sunny or at least give her a chance to explain anything. He rather side with someone he barely knows than the girl he loves.
Jayden-Oh, you will love Jayden! I surely did. I can't give away too much without revealing spoilers, but he will definitely be in the series more and I am so glad. He is romantic and the sweetest guy! I loved when him and Sunny would hang out. I know some people would probably hate him, but I can't wait to see how his and Sunny's relationship develops.

Cover: I loved the cover on this. I was used to the old covers from the previous books, but these are stunning. I don't know who the cover is suppose to be of, maybe Sunny (even though she has blonde hair) or Jane. But, the cover is lovely, as well as the others.

Overall Rating: I give this book a three out of four. I love this series and can not wait to read Night School, but the lingo really gets to me. The characters made the book though and I would love to read more in Sunny's POV.

This may have been my favorite book in the Blood Coven series yet! I absolutely loved it. I thought it was back to the refreshing aspect of Boys That Bite.

I have been waiting for the fourth book in this series for quite a while now and it was good to have a book where Sunny is the main voice again as we really haven't had her point of view since book one. So its a nice change to see a story where the relationship between an immortal vampire and a "mortal" girl is not "and they lived happily ever after" but to see that they have real relationship problems and realistic homelife problems that make Sunny and Rayne seem approachable for girls/readers...more I have been waiting for the fourth book in this series for quite a while now and it was good to have a book where Sunny is the main voice again as we really haven't had her point of view since book one. So its a nice change to see a story where the relationship between an immortal vampire and a "mortal" girl is not "and they lived happily ever after" but to see that they have real relationship problems and realistic homelife problems that make Sunny and Rayne seem approachable for girls/readers to relate with. Being children of divorce, dealing with their issues of abandonment of the main male figure in their lives and how it affects their relationships with their other halves. In the last book Jareth was able to really break through to Rayne and reasure her that he was not going to be like her father that he was going to be there for her so she could finally let down her walls and stop acting though and defensive. Where as with Sunny we really don't know her feelings till this book Bad Blood, it gets broken down that she has the same feelings as Rayne that are buried just as deep. It doesn't help however that Magnus is acting just like her father, what with being to busy to have time for her or trying to control her by claiming he is protecting her when in fact he is talking down to her and not treating her like an equal in his life and in turn his world. As she has never had someone solid constantly there and giving her all their attention she doesn't realize that Magnus is mistreating her till he ignores her theories on "Jane" and belittles her by claiming she is only jealous and acting like the child she is to his 1000 years. He though he acts like a complete jerk she still follows to help him because she loves him and can stand to lose what she considers the best person in her life, not realizing that she has given up so much to be with him already her friends, her social life, her high school years. In Vegas, Rayne and her also confront another big issue in their life...their stepmother Heather or HWB as they nicknamed her the woman who "stole" their father away. Only they come to learn that not everything as it appears when it comes to down to it with a big surprise waiting for them in his home. With their father once again not there to explain what really happen all those years ago. Sunny ends up thanks to Magnus not believing her meeting a human boy who actually might be her soulmate who shares her love for dancing and the theather and learns what its really like to be cherished and adored for being herself and finding someone who constantly wants to be around her and can be there to lean on and offer a shoulder to cry on. All in all Sunny ends up saving the day but is left with the understanding that her and Magnus have issues that they need to work on if their relationship is going to last and the feeling that she might not really love Magnus as much anymore and could maybe leave him for someone else. The ending once again leave you hanging with a ton of questions as what the girl's mother's boyfriend hinted in the last book is finally revealed by the girls parents that they are....fairies. What should I write...I feel a bit tired after reading so much ;___;
I'm non-stop reading this serie...but I love the idea of the books.
I'm quite suprised with Magnus change ...I mean... seems a bit unrealstic after the first book.
But ok I laughed often and I like the book and the it's again a really good story...But I think I favour the third book more! Maybe because Sunny is still human... BUUT I couldn't stop reading the book!
I'm so tired I hope no one is every reading this review x_x

I totally loved this book! It was funny, it had vampires in it( duh!) It had a very good story line, and I loved that they were in Vegas. That just added on to the excitement. I want to read more of her books just because this one was so awesome! Sunny is totally my favorite character. Sarcasm must run in her blood or something. Ha ha. Blood. Get it? Because it's a vampire book? *crickets...* Oh well, I thought it was funny, and I cannot wait till the next book! =D

I have to say, I am a little frustrated when goodreads site breaks and losing all that I've written. So let start again with my review of Bad Blood...

I'm disappointed with myself, I've just started into this series at book 4. The storyline isn't rocket science, so I didn't feel as though I missed out on any character development, but I can't wait to read the first three books.
