I love the idea of a Shifter bounty hunter and the company he works for, Night Watch. From the first page I had a hard time putting it down. I like Cynthia Eden's easy writing style, and the flow of her characters' thoughts and voices.

Erin Jerome is the new ADA in Baton Rouge, LA. She moved from her previous assignment in Lillian because (small spoilers here) she has a stalker and she thought she'd lost him. She is "Other" but she is very adept at hiding her Otherness from everybody, both human...more I love the idea of a Shifter bounty hunter and the company he works for, Night Watch. Erin Jerome is the new ADA in Baton Rouge, LA. She moved from her previous assignment in Lillian because (small spoilers here) she has a stalker and she thought she'd lost him. She is "Other" but she is very adept at hiding her Otherness from everybody, both human and Other alike.

Until Jude Donovan the bounty hunter apprehends one of her perps. He brings him in with claw marks because Jude is a shifter, and when he sees/smells Erin, he is a goner. He is the only one who has ever noticed her scent was Other. And he is sex on legs! woo boy do I want me a Jude Donovan of my very own.

Together the two of them try to figure out who is stalking Erin, and just how the guy is so good. He is right next to her a lot and she never notices him. In fact, once I found out who her stalker was (the wolf shifter who thought of Erin as his mate, he kills as gifts to her-psycho) I was fairly surprised.

The only thing that I didn't like about this book was that a few times either Erin or Jude wouldn't share their past with each other because they each thought it might turn the other off. It felt like a stalling tactic the author might use to keep us from knowing the secrets.

Erin's were definitely biggies, what with the psycho stalker mate and her hybrid half and her dad's being a shaman with psychic powers. But Jude's were definitely soul torturing nightmares that made me want to hug him tight, but they weren't anything that should have scared Erin off.

I guess it just came down to each felt he/she had a darkness in them the other couldn't/wouldn't understand. Instead they identified with each other. I will definitely read on, and I loved it to the point of reading most last night, and the rest early this morning. My only problem is that I didn't like Dee (a human hunter who works for Night Watch) and her story's up next. ::shrug:: I'll see what I think, I bet Cynthia Eden can make me eat my words :)

I really enjoyed this book. This is the first time read for me of Cynthia Edens books and won't be the last. Like her style of writing. This book was very fast paced that kept you interested. Erin hired a Bounty Hunter Jude who is a notorious bounty hunter who is a shape-shifter who turns into a deadly tiger who is hired to track and killer and who is also stalking Erin. I went into this one pretty much expecting to like it since it seems a lot of other people did even though this is the first book I've read by Cynthia Eden so I couldn't know for sure. But I couldn't even finish it unfortunately.

Two main problems made me slug my way through it:

1. A lot of repetition about various things that made me roll my eyes over and over. In particular nearly every conversation between Erin and Jude are essentially about how he wants to know her secrets and she doesn't wan...more

I presume you know what the book is about. I'm letting you know what I liked or disliked about it.

I am blown away at the fact I didn't like this book. I've really enjoyed everything else I've read by Ms. Eden. I just assumed this series would be more of the same.

Just finished the first book in Cynthia Eden's Night Watch Series: Eternal Hunter. I really liked the male lead-Jude(white tiger shifter/bounty hunter), although his constant usage of the word "Sweetheart" became a bit annoying. Her weaknesses made her irritating at times, but that may be because the author kept us in the dark about what her deal was until the end, which made it difficult to relate to her since we didn't know why she was so unstable. The story was basically about Erin trying to find out who her stalker is that is going around murdering people as "presents" for her, and the love story that develops between her and Jude, the bounty hunter she hired to help her find her stalker. All the while she is trying to come to grips with her own identity. The sex "scenes" were written well, imagery was good...but I didn't get overly excited reading it, so I guess it could have been better...but that could also be because I wasn't entirely enthralled with either character involved.
I had issues initially with the writing style, but the more I read it, the more I got used to it. The author would have Erin quoted saying something, follow it with a sentence of what Erin is thinking, then have a sentence with a third person narrative, all in the same paragraph. I had to keep rereading to figure out if the sentence was a thought or a narration, and it got kind of confusing. Towards the end of the book though, it was easier to distinguish the voices. I think it would have been an easier read perhaps if the thoughts of Erin had been in italics. I've seen that in other books, and it made it a lot easier to read.
Overall, the storyline itself was good. I found myself wanting to read the next book in the series immediately, but the next book is about a different member of the Night Watch bounty hunter agency-Dee. Wasn't too interested in her character in this book, so will see if I find the interest to continue this series or not...

Occasionally, though, I come across a book that hits all or most of my happy spots, not because the plot is so spectacular, or the writing is so technically impressive, or the characters stand out that brightly, but for some nebulous, purely emotional reason that doesn't translate as well to an objective review. Eternal Hunter is one of those books.

Erin is new to Baton Rouge, working as a tenacious Assistant District Attorney and working at hiding herself - both her location from a violent, murderous stalker intent on Erin as his mate and her Other nature from...well...everyone else. Jude Donovan, bounty hunter and supreme alpha male shapeshifter has a much different agenda on those points. From the moment he senses and scents Erin, he refuses to allow her to hide anything from him, and he sure as hell refuses to let any sick psycho shifter come anywhere near her. Both have secrets they guard, both have wounds that still haunt them. Both will learn that only together can they stop a creature bent on death and destruction.

Eternal Hunter is a quickly paced, sensual, and dangerous romp and I really, really enjoyed it. There's something about Cynthia Eden's style that appeals to me. I enjoy the world she's created, one that exists in the same universe as that of her Midnight Trilogy, and I thought the chemistry between Erin and Jude was top notch. I really appreciated Erin's strength, as that's a personal preference of mine, and I loved Jude's uber-alpha personality tempered with some emotional insecurity that made him even more appealing as that vulnerability humanized him. Their characters and relationship really worked for me.

I'm not going to be overly critical of the story elements, I'm simply going to say that the plot was perhaps not the most original I've ever read, the sexual and burgeoning emotional relationship between Erin and Jude was given much more room than the threat of the stalker, and the climax had some cliched elements. There were also a couple of plot threads that struck me as odd. None of that severely impacted my pleasure in the read, though, because I found it to be very satisfying on an emotional level overall. Sometimes, for whatever reason, a book just hits the right buttons for a person. Eternal Hunter hit the right buttons for me. (less)

I was pleasantly surprised by this book: as a freed download for my kindle I've had some really great new authors, and also quite a few that were immediately deleted.

Eden does a nice job introducing the reader to a new world and it's many inhabitants; I've never read any of her other books (don't even know if she has any) so if there were other novels pertaining to this world, I was unaware. However, I was quickly able to catch on and not feel bombarded with information.

In Eternal Hunger Cynthia Eden returns to her super sexy shifters! I love her shifter romances and this book did not disappoint. It grabbed me from the first page and did not stop! Cynthia Eden's paranormal world is complex and absorbing. If you are already a fan of her books you will have to purchase this book to add to your collection. If you are a new reader, be prepared for a fun, smooth read.

This story starts with Jude Donovan, a tough no-nonsense bounty hunter who ALWAYS gets his prey. But his latest capture brings with it trouble packaged in the new, ultra attractive Assistant D.A., Erin Jerome. All of a sudden he is bent on hunting an all together different type of quarry. Jude immediately senses something different about Erin and his inner animal wants her for his alone.

But Erin is no easy prey. She has sworn off shifters of any sort in her life. Erin is deceptively strong and no one even a shifter is going to push her around. Even if he does have a rough sort of charm that she finds attractive. Starting afresh in a new town, the last thing she wants are any complications. Which means keeping a low profile. And she knows a shifter will just bring her trouble. Unfortunately, her past and Jude’s collide as Erin is targeted and Jude becomes her bodyguard. But Erin’s ultimate test is taking the final risk and believing in herself.

This book was sheer pleasure from start to finish. Cynthia Eden is one of my favorite authors. I am hooked by her series because each of her books reveals something new about her world and her characters are always sympathetic and likeable. It is difficult to describe how enjoyment I feel every time I read one her books. Her ability to write a fast paced novel that is: fun to read, easy to get involved in and always satisfying. The mystery behind the Erin’s past and a string of murders are engrossing, as unexpected changes make for a thrilling and riveting read. The engaging characters are genuine and extraordinary and I often felt a part of the story. Along with Jude there is a cast of his bounty hunter colleagues who I hope will be making appearances of their own..

I loved this story and look forward to her next book with great anticipation!

A dark & sexy tale, every page will leave you craving for more. Eternal Hunger takes you into the secret world of Others, a world of shifters, vampires, charmers and demons. Where a group of Others and a few select humans hunt down those in the paranormal community that cross the line.
Eternal Hunger is a fantastically gritty & realistic paranormal crime and romance with surprising twists right until the very end.
Eden’s writing style is short and to the point and she gives you an action-packed plot that centers around a serial killer stalker with intriguing sub-plots involving dynamic characters.
The hero & heroine are evenly matched, which is great to see in the paranormal world. Eden provides smooth character & relationship growths between the two and sizzling romance that will make you weak at the knees. Not to mention the mind-blowing love scenes to look forward to. Grrrowl...
A great read ending with a satisfying conclusion. This is my first Cynthia Eden read and I will be going back for more! I could picture every scene like a film rolling in my head.
The only thing, and I’m not sure if it was because I was reading it in eform or not, is that the POV jumped around without any warning and I had to backtrack for a quick sec to get it.(less)

Erster Satz: Jude Donovan war es gewohnt, Mörder zu jagen, sie wie die verfluchten Hunde zu hetzen, die sie waren, und die Mistkerle einzusperren.

Viel gibt es zu Jäger der Dämmerung nicht zu sagen. Es war durchaus interessant und wusste zu unterhalten, auch die Charaktere waren in Ordnung und die Geschichte mit Erins Stalker ist spannend, aber das gewisse Etwas fehlte einfach. Wenn ich das Buch mit einem einzigen Wort beschreiben müsste wäre das wohl "Durchschnitt".

We meet Erin Jerome. She's an Assistant District Attorney and she's great at her job. But she has a few secrets and they're all about to catch up with her. First of all, she's not really human. She's part psychic human and part shifter. But she can't fully shift into her animal form. In the shifter world, that is a sign of weakness. Because Erin has this weakness, her mother, a full shifter, dropped Erin off at her father's when she was 15 years old and Erin hasn't seen or heard from her mother since that day. See, her mother lived with the pack and her father wasn't part of that world. When Erin didn't shift at the age she was supposed to, Erin figured that her mom was embarrassed by her and didn't want to deal with Erin's weakness. Erin loves her father and could care less about her mom. Second, she has a stalker. He's a sick, sick shifter freak. The reason he's a freak isn't because he's a shifter, its because he's a murderer. Erin has no idea who he is but he has been killer "for" her for a while. Anyone who gets in her way, anyone who hurts her ends up dead. And not in a peaceful way. Gutted or sliced. Erin has run away from her hometown, hoping to get away from this stalker but it appears as if he's found her.

This is where Jude Donovan comes in. He's a bounty hunter and he's deadly. He's also a shifter. But he's a SUPER rare shifter: a white tiger. Because of his rarity, he's more powerful than an average shifter. He can heal faster, shift faster and fight better. He meets Erin at a crime scene at the city jail. A prisoner has been brutally murdered, sliced to ribbons, alone in his cell. No one around him, no cops in sight and no one saw what happened. When everyone Erin tells Jude that she has a stalker and that this is his M.O., she hires Jude as a sort of bodyguard/investigator. While he works Erin's case, they find out more and more about each other but can Erin trust Jude with her secrets?

This was a great book. The sex was friggin HOT HOT HOT!!!!! And there was plenty!! The story was great! The action was pretty intense. The only real issue that I had was how closed off Erin was. I mean, I get it, she has these secrets about WHAT she is, what kind of animal she is and the secret about her mom abandoning her. But she continues to deny what she feels for Jude. As they get closer and closer, she just buries her feelings and I just thought that she was way too smart to pull a trick like that. Jude and his company, Night Watch, were really cool. Well, it isn't Jude's company; he just works there. But his friends are pretty funny and sexy and hot. There wasn't any part of the book that was boring. When Erin's stalker is revealed, I almost fell of my elliptical!! (I was reading while working out...) I couldn't believe it! But then I thought back to earlier scenes in the book and I thought, "Oooh yeah, I can see it now!".

Cynthia Eden is now on my automatic read list. I just really have nothing to complain about this book. And I know that doesn't sound like a glowing review but there's ALWAYS something that pisses me off. And nothing pissed me off here!! There weren't a TON of laughs but the action more than made up for it. Erin is such a great heroine, too. She might be a little weak at the beginning - she IS running away - but she gets herself together and she's a pretty badass chick!! I definitely recommend this book!!!(less)

This was a good read! I mean, what's not to like about a HOT shifter?? And he's a good guy, even though he has 'darkness' inside of him....and Erin....sometimes she acts a little timid, but when she decides to kick some ass, you better watch out! Just goes to show that you can't tell a book by its cover. The best thing about the book is its cover and from there on it's a progressive downhill slide. The prose and the dialogue were awkward and lacked any charm, wit, or natural flow. The characters were poorly developed and weren't in the least attractive, charming, sympathetic, or engaging, so I couldn't care less if the bad guy murdered the whole lot of them right off the bat--in fact it would have been a big improvement because it would...more

The writing was interesting - the carnal scenes made me laugh - not the reaction the author was looking for probably but still, it was amusing. The 'revelation' at the end seemed like a cop-out. It wasn't that it was unexpected, it was that it seemed too neat. I don't think it worked. The characters were fine, just...not really memorable.

This is the first in Eden's Night Watch series which features vampires, weres/shifters, demons and other miscellaneous creatures. What a way to start off a new series! I thoroughly enjoyed this fast paced, action packed romance novel filled with lots of chemistry and hot sex.

Wow, so much better than some of the other books I've been reading lately. It was actually well fleshed out and had characters that weren't two dimensional. Nice. I guessed who the bad guy was well before the reveal but then I kept second guessing myself and thinking, no, that can't be right. Therefore I'm giving the mystery a thumbs up.

Another great read by Cynthia Eden. I have to say I really enjoy her mystery and suspense novels. This one was the same. Fast paced and action packed. Hard to put down.

These mystery and suspense novels have an added bonus that includes the Paranormal world that I also enjoy reading.

Made it all the way to chapter 6. Pretty damned awful and definitely not worth reading, however I have read worse. So far, the writing style is pissing me off. It's difficult to differentiate who's point of view the book is speaking in at certain points, because the POV keeps switching and the author doesn't always give enough hints. I’ll be honest, the Nigh Watch books sort of picked me; I didn’t pick them. I won the second Night Watch book in a raffle at a book club and figured I might as well get the first book. I’m so glad I made that decision!

The Setting — is a world in which things exist just below the surface. Normal humans don’t realize that surrounding them are Others, people who aren’t really people. They’re demons, charmers, shifters, vampires – and the list goes on. At times people don’t realize what’s right in front of them and others they’re very willing to believe. It’s not an original idea, but it’s one that the mind accepts – because what better place for something strange to hide than right in front of us? The story takes place in the swamps of Louisiana, all that lovely humidity and heat!

The Characters — were very primal. The book features a pair of shifters. Basic to a shifters personality is a very animalistic set of priorities that drive them. These priorities drive both the characters and the plot. Erin wants to be normal, but she will never be that – because she’s so much more. And she’s broken. I found myself empathizing with her character as she struggled to come to terms with her brokenness and how maybe, just maybe there might be someone out there who understood her. Jude is raw, primal power. He’s a little bit cliche in that alpha male type role, but who cares? He has his own dark side and the play back and forth of each of the characters revealing just a little bit more to the other was really awesome. I was really happy with the way the killer progressed through the story. I won’t discuss it, but it was g-o-o-d.

The Plot — centered around the stalker. Finding out who he was and getting rid of him. But it was also a story of growth. The thriller aspects of dealing with the stalker were great. There was something more to him, something very deranged and twisted that made you want to know more. Layered with this is the growth of the characters. Erin heals through the book, which was very cool to watch. Like I said, the character came with a lot of baggage and through the plot and Jude pulling her towards him the book became as much about dealing with her stalker and the love story as it was about her process of healing.

I waffled for a while on if I thought the book was a 4 or 5 star book. There was some minor confusion with some of the dialogue at times and wondering what else drew the characters together besides their animal attraction but in the end when I finished the book I flipped back to the beginning and started it again. I really liked this book; it’s a total re-read and something I suggest if you want a steamy, dark and gritty read.(less)

I didn't like it quite as much as the Midnight-series, but overall, it was okay to read.
The writing was good as uasual, the story entertaining, but inspite of EH happening in the same universe than the Midnight-series (another town, though, no overlappings), somehow the main prots (and almost the whole other personnel) weren't quite as captivating as those of the Midnight-series-people (Niol!!!!!! :-D )

Surprisingly good. I got this one for free from Amazon, but have actually bought the next in the series.

Her covers had me thinking this would be really pulpy, but the plot was good. I don't love her style when it comes to the sex scenes. They are a little more graphic than some, which isn't a big deal, but also pretty repetitive after a while.

I've got to tell you when I started Eternal Hunter I couldn't put it down. I loved this book and kept reading it like it was a race to the end. I just had to find out what happened. I have to say that Eden kept the bad guy under wraps very well. Most of the time, I figure out right away who it is, but not this time. Erin's life is a mess even if those in her life don't know it. This was just okay. I liked Jude, but hated Erin. Talk about irritating. Felt that half of the book was just filler. So repetitious too when it came to their relationship, the stalker, her secrets, his secrets. Give me a break. The biggest irritant of all was how Erin constantly referred to her stalker as "the bastard." "Let's get the bastard." "The bastard will pay." "I'm going to find the bastard." We get it! This book was much better than the last couple of shifters stories I have read lately. The book doesn't really offer anything new to the world of shifters but, the characters are very well developed & I see a couple of future branches. This is the first book I have read that was written by this author but, I will be looking into some of her other series. I am also really interested in seeing some additional stories from the Night Watch team.
