Deep Deception by Tina Brooks Mckinney was overall a good read. The cover had me thinking it would be about black characters, but not too long after the book started it told me otherwise. Veronica, Victoria and Ramon are young and close in age and their lives is suddenly turned upside down when their mother collapsed and they are forced to called their father who is in Cuba that they haven’t seen in years. All hell breaks loose when their mom dies and deep dark family secrets, not only about the...more

Deep Deception had me from page one and I was locked in for a great suspense thriller. The story starts out with a eerie phone call that sends the Mendoza Matriarch to the hospital. Madre Sita's condition forces her children to make a decision that neither wants to make. Then around page 140 or so,the book took a turn and I slipped, never regaining my upright position. The plot in and of itself was exciting, but there were too many moments where I found myself going, huh?

If you are a true lover...more

In true McKinney form, the characters are bold and complex while the storyline twists in ways that make you wonder about the mind of the author. The Mendoza family is rich in secrets and the children – Veronica, Victoria and Ramon – are the ones that are in jeopardy. After a phone call meant to instill fear kills their mother, they come face-to-face with a man they believe is their father. That is only the beginning, the supporting characters will jump in and change the story more times than I c...more

I'm guessing the girl on the cover is Tilo?? I don't know, but the story is about an latino family who's father sent them to states for their own safety after Veronica, Victoria and Ramon oldest brothers were killed. The siblings soon learn they don't know anything about their parents or the lives the were leading. Everyone has secrets in this family. It was an okay read but the last 5 pages had my attention more than the entire book.

This was a great read. I couldn't believe that Tilo would do that to Victória just for money. Oh wait, yeah I can. And Moses to for trying to kill Veronica. Read this book in one day. Now to read part two.

this was a so so read.

Great read. The characters were of Hispanic decent, yet the cover of the book shows an African American woman. Didn't quite understand the marketing behind that. I recommend that you read this.

Not quite sure if the book was meant to be confusing or what it really was meant to be. I understand that the deception was so deep that no one was who they seemed to be except for the kids. It just wasn't well put together for me.

So far so good! The plot thickens as I continue to read.
Revae
I was in suspense. I found myself grow very attached to the family, and angered by the deception. It was a page turner!
