How to tempt a duke? By refusing to be tempted at all...

He'd returned from war a duke. Now Rafael Daughtry was battling a force more terrifying than Napoleon's army—his family. Thankfully, his childhood friend Charlotte Seavers had agreed—reluctantly—to a bargain. While Rafe would provide her with the home she'd lost, Charlotte would provide him with a chaperone for his un...more

Sımsıcak-Kasey Michaels

I don't think I've read a Kasey Michaels book before and I really really liked this one. There was a little bit f violence towards women which I really hate reading about (seeing on tv, movies, etc.). I got caught up into this story quickly and I loved the strength, friendship and diaglog between Rafe and Charlie. Fitz was also a great character and played a key role in a tear wrenching part of this book. The next book is Nichole's story and I hope there will be a third about Lydia.

I loved this book. It had the humorous moments to the ones that caused me to tear up. I'm looking forward to reading the other books in Kasey Micheal's Daughtry Family series.

The book was rather disappointing. It lacked pace and I found the lead charcters unappealing.

Rafe - a man of war - inherits a title and has no idea how to go about managing it. In comes heroine, whose-name-I've-forgotten-because-I-did-not-really-like-her, a childhood friend and neighbour. She helps him "take care" of his twin sisters, which is something like what the blurb says but I thought the sisters' role in the story was quite pointless besides the fact that our heroine needed a reason to l...more

Bu sırada devreye çocukluk arkadaşı Charlotte (Charlie) girer.Kız kardeşlerinin bakımında (16 yaşla...more

I don't give half-stars, but I'm sorely tempted to change my rules for this one. It's mostly very good, with a vivid, engaging cast of characters and a romance I readily bought into; on a story level, I want to give it a four. However, there were some weaknesses in the writing that I couldn't ignore. The story is rich and we're given plenty of time to get to know the characters, but the passage of time - especially, but not only in the jump from part one to part two - is patchy enough to detract...more

I enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to lovers of historical romance. Both Rafe and Charlotte are very likeable characters. Rafe's two sisters, both very different, added to the story and most likely the author will or already has told their stories in another novel. (I haven't checked) A horrid experience closes Charlotte off to her emotions and to a man's touch. Rafe is understanding of the truama in her past experience and lets her move at her own pace. At times, however, the budding...more

Rafael Daughtry never expected to be the duke. His haughty uncle and disparaging cousins all drowned in a boating accident leaving the career soldier unprepared for his new responsibilities. Responsibilities that include his sixteen-year-old twin sisters who are already pulling the wool over his eyes by making him believe that his aunt is watching them while their aunt believes that Rafe has taken charge. Only Charlotte Seavers has seen through the charade... and now she's been pulled into it, p...more

one of the best Regency Romances I've read in a long time. The end has a twist I definitely never saw coming. The next book is about one of the Duke's sisters, and I didn't want to read it...until she grew up a bit at the end. But Rafe and Charlotte were a great pairing, and a cute romance.
Rafe comes back from war to a new dukedom that shouldn't have been his. He says rather grimly at one point, "And I only had to step over 3 bodies to get it." But Charlotte helps him gain his footing and deal...more

Overall, this was quite a good book. Good storyline (even if it's a cliche friends to lovers story) and good writing. But I just can't feel the chemistry between the hero and heroin. Friendship chemistry, yes but lovers' chemistry? No. So it was just a read without any emotion from me.

A newly and unexpectedly named duke returns changed from war to a childhood friend changed by hidden scandal. The childhood friend is set up as the chaperon for the duke's unmarried twin sisters. Minor adventures and metaphorical fireworks ensue. I liked it well enough for what it is, but there was too much emphasis spread across unnecessary secondary characters who weren't well developed or all that likable but who will, of course, have subsequent books of their own. There was also some (in my...more

First in a series of 4 books, along with a prequel to this book. It's a quick read, definitely a historical romance.

Most of this story is believable, but it seems a little disjointed. Why are Rafe's two sisters in the uncle's house? Where or who is their mother? Where is the bereaved widow? Charlotte, the old friend, has,of course, grown up since Rafe left for the war. But Rafe doesn't even recognize her or her voice?

All in all, a good story. Good enough that I will look for the others in the...more

I have a "car" book that I carry with me for standing in lines, waiting for the movie to star, etc. So went to see Amazing Spiderman in 3 D and had about 20 minutes to read-so finished my car book. 1st off I have to say that I love Regency Romances and for those who laugh, you can actually learn history that most Americans don't learn. So "How to tempt a Duke" by Kasey Michaels starts in France as Napoleon is trundled off to Elba, is a love story and a mystery. I really enjoyed it and there are...more

This is the first story of four set historically in England. As usual I like reading about how society was influenced by royalty. This story is about a man who is off fighting Napoleon when he is ordered home as his father and brothers have all died and he has now come in to the title he never imagined having. The tale is not cut and dried and introduces the other three characters to follow with their own stories. All in all I liked this book and am looking forward to reading the rest.

I'm pretty sure that if you shook a copy of Michael's How to Tempt a Duke hard enough, a romance novel cliché would fall out on your lap. Unlikely succession to a dukedom? Got it. Recurring battlefield fever? Yup. Let's get you out of those wet clothes? Yeah, that's there, too. All the notes are there, and Michaels plays them well enough...but you're not likely to remember the tune after it's over.

Been looking for this book for a while now since my library has #2,3, and 4. Nice to see the beginning of the story and get explanations of all the things eluded to in later books. I enjoy the interplay between Charlotte and Rafe and Rafe and Fritz. Nicole is still a pain in the neck but she was my least favorite character and hers my least favorite book in the series.

A quick read about a young woman and her childhood love long separated by war and lately reunited by circumstance. They must each learn to trust an embrace their new positions in life before they can admit their love for one another and eventually marry. Of course, there are naysayers and do-badders mixed in trying to kill them and/or take what they love.

Fun story with some really deep conversations and amazing ideals. I love the entire thing: the absolute understanding that he has, the twins and his reaction to them, Fitz (don't love that whole drama :( ), Charlie and that whole thing. Just every aspect of this book.

I enjoyed this escape read, which has believable, likable characters and a decent plot. There is alot of humor and witty banter, which I like. Note that there is a backstory (mostly occurring prior) of violence against women.

Loved it, but hated what happened to Fitz!!! The friends-to-lovers plot was well written and pretty realistic as far as the timeline goes (it's set over a few months).. Can't wait to get to Lydia and Nicole's stories!
Kara
I liked this book. The romance felt real. This is the start of a series and I'm looking forward to what happens to the members of this family. I like that there is a mystery to follow. Fun read.

This story was very realistic in the sense where the relationship between the hero and heroine played out. It was lovely to see and understand the couple as they fell for each other.

I liked it. Though it still has her light and witty touch, it's more serious than the other Kasey Michaels books I've read. Very enjoyable read and gotta say, what a gorgeous cover!

This book was VERY boring. I've read a ton of "historicals" this year and this would be at the bottom of the list. I skimmed a bunch of it. I would give it 1.5 stars if I could. Blah...
Linda
Absolutely lovely! Started quite unassumingly but as the story unfolded it was touching, tender & most romantic. Unexpected twists to the story & a sadly poignant moment

Kasey Michaels is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of more than 100 books (she doesn't count them). Kasey has received three coveted Starred Reviews from Publishers Weekly, two for the historical romances, THE SECRETS OF THE HEART and THE BUTLER DID IT, and a third for contemporary romance LOVE TO LOVE YOU BABY (that shows diversity, you see). She is a recipient of the RITA, a W...more
