This is not Ringsted's best work (his memoirs and London books are excellent), but still a pretty good travel book. He is very interesting when he describes how the Danish perception of America was shaped by imported movies and novels in the 1920s - James Fenimore Cooper seems to have influenced him greatly. His analyses of American life and conditions are not all that exciting, but there are some observations and details which are very interesting to read some 50 years later. For example, I had ...more
