Filled with comical illustrations that bring smiles and a story that teaches a valuable lesson there's a lot to like about LULU THE BIG LITTLE CHICK. Author/illustrator Bogan fills pages with bold whimsical illustrations that capture and hold young eyes, such as smiling hens happy in their hen house reading a book and knitting. Lulu is tired of hearing that she is too little, so decides to venture off to "far, far away" from her momma and the barnyard. Luckily two pig friends can usually be seen keeping an eye on Lulu as she runs into a sheep, a cow and a horse, all whom tell her she is too little to be out there alone!

I don't this is going to scare venturesome children any more than does, say Where the Wild Things Are. Even the scary thing at the end turns out to be a friend.
Besides,wandering away from your mom for a moment, thinking she is gone and then finding her is a classic small child experience. And THERE's Lulu's mom, right there!

Lulu the Big Little Chick is a good childrens book and is an easy read for young children. Children love books with farm animals in it and this is funny and would spark their interest. I would use this in a lesson of teaching about farm animals and being brave. The little chick says hes moving away and when he gets scared his momma chick saves him.
This book was not my favorite. I feel like this book teaches children unappreciation towards their parents. I know by the end of the book the chick was happy to see her mom, but there is not enough information at the beginning to say why the chick wants to go far far away, or why she is angry with her mother.

Preschoolers found this book pretty captivating. They were all very worried about Lulu and what would happen to her when she left her mother behind. I was a little worried that they were too stressed, but when Lulu's mom pops up to find her, there was a collective sigh of relief.
I love Lulu because she reminds me of a little determined, independent "chick" that lives in my house! I loved watching as Lulu asserts her independence and sets out to prove it but decides that in the end, it isn't so bad to have Mom along...Cute story.
Lulu, is a little chick and wants to go far far away and experience the world. Kind of about running away and feeling brave. But Lulu experiences things she doesn't expect and happy at the end to be with her mama.
Very sweet book, and my son loved it for bedtime. I like that it reinforces that no matter how big a little one thinks he or she is, they will always want momma when they get a little scared of nervous.
eh. i think this title may actually encourage fear in children venturing out on their own. chick wants to go out into the world. scary. scary world. chick paralyzed by fear at the end. eh.
Lulu is a little chick that can't wait to be big and do big things. Most kids can't wait to grow up (little do they know). This book can be easily related to by young children.
This was a very fun story that I read to my daughter, Rowan. She loved it when I made the animal sounds. This would work for a preschool story time selection!
Another pleasant story about exerting independence and learning when even if you feel brave mommy is still needed.
Perfect for all those little ones who are feeling independent and want to go far, far away from Momma.

The pictures will be entertaining for a group or a lap-read. The story is good and I think I could tell it in an entertaining way. The idea of wanting to be on one's own might resonate with the children. I definitely will do for a storytime, but I think I want to take a slight break from farm animals for a little longer.

Great read for "big" girls and "big" boys.

Another cute Lulu story.
Lulu is tired of being too little to do anything. This book would be great to discuss personal connections as most children would be able to relate.
Very funny book about going away. Would make a good college gift for Joey

Show the importance of family and that a young child needs their parents. I would read as an entertaining book for children.
