The stunning photography in Panda Kindergarten is almost enough to make up for the disappointing lack of detail in the text. The clear crisp pictures offer an intimate portrait of panda existence, with close-ups that offer a rare glimpse of these beautiful creatures. They are pictured in every aspect of life at the Wolong Nature Preserve, from newborns to several comical shots of the pandas at play. The amazing detail of the photos is unfortunately, left out of the text, and the reader is left a...more

Nonfiction: Panda Kindergarten by Joanne Ryder. Copyright date: 2009. This book was so cute. The setting of this book is at the Wolong Nature Reserve in China. At this reserve pandas are cared fro from a newborn state. Many pandas have twins, however, they are only capable of taking care of one. People at the reserve take care of the other twins. They make sure to switch the twins back and forth so they get love from their mother and the caregivers. this book was very informative with excellent...more

Cutest photgraphs I ever saw! Terrific science books for little ones, but older kids will love it because the baby pandas are just precious. It's the story of the Wolong Natyure Reserve in China and how they care for the second twin panda while the mother pandas care for the one twin they can care for at a time. (I never thought about that before!). The picture of the sixteen little tiny pandas lined up together is just the cutest thing ever!!! You will have such an "Awwww!" factor in your room...more

The originalty of this book was great. I never thought to compare and contrast a day in a life of a baby panda to a kindergartener. I think students can relate to these little pandas very closly. The book has more photographs than it does illustrations. But with that said the photography is excelent. The subject matter is great for students of kindergarten age and kids in this age group will love the book. I think kids will always love this book not only for the reason that they can relate to th...more

A story of giant baby pandas in Wolong Nature Preserve.

Great photos that everyone will love. Lots of awwwws from the kids. I'm bummed the text isn't better. It's somewhat awkward to read aloud. Somehow in overly simplifying the words, the book became more confusing. II left with more questions than I came in, and not "hey, let's read more" but in a "why didn't it tell me that" kind of way.

There's list of panda facts tossed in the back, but mostly the book seems like a mis...more

In the Wolong Nature Reserve in China, sixteen baby pandas have been born and are being nurtured and raised together. As they grow, they go to “panda kindergarten” every day to play, discover, and learn socialization skills. The information is sparse, but the large photographs of the adorable babies are the real draw. Young readers will eagerly await their turn to peruse the pictures and learn a little about this beautiful and endangered species.

This book earns its four stars for the pure adorable-ness of the pandas photographed in the book! This one is easy to read, and could even be read aloud to an attentive and patient group of preschoolers or early elementary kids. Includes fun facts, and tangible, digestible information, so that it's not too overwhelming for younger ones. The last page includes some "fast facts" about the giant pandas as well.

Great photos. A nice introduction to endangered animals and animal preserves for younger kids. The text clearly outlines what young pandas are doing in "kindergarten," and the photos and additional information about the size of baby pandas are fascinating. It is not particularly rhythmic or magical text, but the topic appeals to young children.

As usual Joanna Ryder produces a wonderful nonfiction reader. I am not usually a fan of nonfiction, but hers are most enjoyable. Who can't resist her wonderful pictures of baby/young pandas! Great way to get students interested in reading nonfiction. My panda books flew off the shelves after reading this aloud!

These pictures are as cute as they get in children's nonfiction. Good facts at the end for curious kids, and text that works for a read-aloud. (It's rare that I can read the whole non-fiction book without skipping or adding transitions for a large group storytime.)

This book helps teachers introduce the fun and interesting similarities between human kindergarten and Panda kindergarten. The cubs are protected, loved, and given great care, just like humans. They also have fun playing on the playground, just like humans.

Watch a class of pandas learn and grow at a Nature Preserve in China. Text is simple, yet informative, making for a good read aloud. Fantastic photography will have readers ooohing and ahhing with each turn of the page.

Did you know pandas go to kindergarten? This book focuses on the pandas that live in the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda. The beautiful photographs in the story show how the little pandas are born at the center and are nurtured until they are ready for panda kindergarten. Children can make connections between panda kindergarten and their school.
This book is a 2011-12 Monarch nominee.

Ridiculously cute pictures of baby pandas - not really useful for animal reports (although a few fast facts on back page) bu would be a good additional purchase for H.

Cute book that talks about a care center for young pandas. Students could compare "panda kindergarten" to their own kindergarten.

This is the cutest book ever! It will keep you saying "awwww" through the whole book as the pandas go through "kindergarten."

This was recommended to me by a patron. And who doesn't enjoy looking at photographs of baby pandas?

Not for research ... but for CUTER THAN CUTER THAN CUTE (oh, my goodness, I have become one of those people) this is the one.

Kiddos will be able to read a lot of it themselves, which is nice.

And the pictures. Did I mention the pictures?

Sooooooo adorable. You'll coo over each page, as will your kids. Many of the photos catch the baby pandas in activities and postures very similar to that of baby humans, which I think really captures kids' imaginations. A little light on hard facts, with a short list of info at the very end, but the cute factor is absolutely off the charts.

In this non-fiction pictorial about caring for Giant Pandas and trying desperately to save them from extinction, the author gives us interesting facts while the pictures warm your heart. The hope is, that by gently nudging the cubs to grow and strenghten, they will be able to be re-introduced into bamboo forests with certainy that they will be here for many more generations.
Kelly
So cute! This precious nonfiction book is perfect for introducing young readers to pandas. The photographs are adorable, and the text is accessible. I plan to read this to my kindergarten students soon and ask them how their kindergarten is different from panda kindergarten. I should get some interesting answers!
