girl loved by geeks. How can you not love a character that is loved by people who secretly drive her insane?
KJ Miller is a nice girl. She's nice to everyone. She doesn't have a mean bone in her body.
Until she meets Tama Gold. And becomes friends with her. The popular girl. The girl who teaches her how to "stand up" for herself. Or, basically, more or less, teaches her how to be mean!

Scott, Kieran. 2008. Geek Magnet.
Okay, so I was dizzy with power. Can you blame me? It was the first day of rehearsals for the spring musical, Grease, at Washington High and I, KJ Miller, was the stage manager. The woman in charge. The first junior ever to be granted this most prestigious position.
KJ Miller. How to describe KJ? Well, there's the obvious. She's a geek magnet. She draws some geeky undesirables close to her. Fred. Glenn. Andy. Perhaps because of all the buzzing geeks near her, KJ i...more

Geek Magnet has been one of my most favorite books. When I walked into the library for the first time and saw this book i think i ran over about five people to reach this book and i'm so glad i got it for it has shown me that even the toughest problems can have a silver lighting. What I most liked about this book is that I could relate to KJ Miller (main character) because I too have a alcoholic father and I know what its like to have to put on a act when you get to school so no one realizes the...more

In the story, a girl, KJ Miller, has been followed by geeks her whole life. When she meets drama star, Tama Gold, her life changes and she becomes a completely new person. But what KJ doesn't know, is that Tama only befriended her to get the lead role in there school musical, GREASE. Tama and KJ start to spend a lot of time together. Her friends, Robbie and Ste...more

Finally, a book I not only enjoy, but also, teaches a really good (and relatable) lesson
Geek Magnet was a funny and cute novel that teens should find relatable to their own life. It is about a girl named KJ who is worshipped by the geeks at her school. Although she appreciates their admiration, she is also embarassed that the school views her as a 'geek magnet'(hence the title). KJ befriends Tama Gold, the 'popular girl' who aids her in getting the geeks to go away. She becomes mean, ignoring he...more
Geeks, thespians, academics….and did I mention geeks? Cause this book is filled with them. Short, tall, frumpy, thin there are girl geeks and boy geeks. At the center of it all is KJ, a relatively popular girl who isn’t afraid to befriend anyone. What I love most about her is she’s not a status monger or judgmental. She has her moments of bad behavior, just like every other teen, and she isn’t always kind to the people around her but in the grand scheme she’s no mean girl. Have I mentioned yet...more
I only come onto goodreads when I have high things to say, or very low things to say about a book. In this case, my review is of the lows.
Geek Magnet is truly a bad written book. It has a main character who is descirbed as to be very nice, but she was rude, annoying, and naive'. She sets out a bad image for teenage girls, because recently in high school, girls don't grow crushes on the 'popular boy', but on who they truly like. I took two months to read this book, not because it was boring, but because I always forget to bring it around me. This book is kinda different than other books, despite the fact that it has girl dramas, friendships problems and etc.
Geek Magnet by Kieran Scott can be categorized as a typical teen book, but what it has and other doesn't is the reality of high school. In the book, KJ is a geek magnet and she was never considered 'cool', well because she was a geek magnet. lol. but at one point of...more

KJ Miller is a geek magnet. And to prove it, she's got not one, not two, but three geeks following her every move. Sure they bother her, especially Glenn with his constant rude remarks, but deep inside KJ just can't be mean. Or can she? When KJ unexpectedly befriends high school starlit, Tama Gold, she suddenly finds herself in the "in" crowd; but hanging with the populars comes with a price. Ditch the geeks or never hook the high school football Cameron Richardson. With her homelife and friends...more
So, this is the story of a girl, KJ, who is a geek magnet. The geeks flock to her and she can't seem to escape, not even to catch the eye of The Hot Guy of the School, Cameron. Enter Villain, Tama, onto the scene, who plans to take KJ from the poor, lowly, not-so-cool girl in school and turn her into a...ready for it? Bitch. Idek. I absolutely loved this book!!! This hilarious and heartwarming tale is about KJ Miller, the geek pied piper, God's gift to geekdom, the drum major in the geek parade. For some reason, KJ attracts every socially clueless person in a five-mile radius. Known as being the nice one, she just can't bring herself up to being mean to the geeks. The one she really wants to attract is the hot Cameron Richardson, the star of the basketball team. How can KJ get him to notice her when she is invisible to ev...more
Ok, first review ever, but I just couldn’t NOT do it, at least for this one. So where was I? Ah yes…No! From the very start there was something wrong with it, I just couldn’t get what until after the first few chapters. The intro was interesting, but it merely hid the horror of what was within.

A cute story.
About Friendship, Family, and Love.
Very different from what I used to read. Instead of chapters, there are Acts and Scenes.
The synopsis on the back cover of the book made me read it. There's something interesting about it, and don't forget the name: KJ :)
KJ Miller is a very nice and a friendly student. And there are THREE GEEKS following her around wherever she goes.
Enter Tama, the popular girl. She'll help KJ to get rid of the Geeks by being mean so that KJ will be with Richardson,...more

I had not heard a lot concerning this book, probably because it's a few years old, but I saw it on sale online, so I picked it up on a whim. The story sounded cute enough and I thought the cover was adorable so I purchased it. All things considered, I am glad I had a chance to read this book.
The story centers around KJ, a high school junior who was just given the job of stage manager for her school's musical production of Grease. I think a lot of people can relate to KJ, I certainly can. There a...more

What I found appealing in the title of the book was "Geek Magnet". At first, this title caught my eye because the first thought that came to my mind was that the story would be about a girl who had trouble dealing with boys who liked her at school. However, in the story, it talks about a girl named KJ Miller. In the book, her motive is to ear the spot as the stage manager for the high school production of the play, "Grease". There are several other conflict that happens in the book, KJ's father...more

I have a soft spot in my heart for books about geeks and those who love them--or, as in this case, don't.
KJ is smart, a good friend (generally), stage manager of the school play, and (to her way of thinking) too nice. Since she can't bring herself to tell people how she really feels, her every step is following by three adoring geeks. While her interest, of course, lies with the popular star of the basketball team.

This book is about a girl named KJ. She's super nice and super pretty, but she is such a geek magnet. KJ would way rather have Cameron, the most popular guy in school, follow her around anytime. Being the manager of Greese, the school play, is a little better. KJ meets Tania, and things start to change with KJ's love life. Tania shows KJ into the world of gossip and meanness. After all is what Tania said is true?

“A boy in my house was strange enough. But a guy who was that comfortable in someone else's house, around a parent? A boy who knew how to chop vegetables? A boy who voluntarily helped with everything? Was he one of those adults masqerading as a teenager! Was he a narc or something? Maybe there was a big drug problem at my school and twenty-five-year-old Robbie had been sent in to fix it.

“ Okay, let's do it," Robbie said, slapping his hands together as he stood. He stepped towards me with his arms outstreched and I tripped back. " What? No" " What? Yes," he said. He hit the rewind button and the tape zipped backward. He paused it right as the dance began. " You don't really expect me to ask Tama to dance with me without any practice. Even I'm not that stupid." I was suddenly very aware of my heartbeat. " There's no way I'm dancing with you." " You really know how to stroke a guy's ego," Robbie joked. "Come on. I'm not that repulsive." "You're not repulsive at all, it's just-" " Well, that's good to hear," Robbie said with a teasing smile. He was enjoying this. "it's just that I don't dance," I admitted. Never had. Not once. Not with a guy. I was a dance free-zone. " Well, neither do II mean, except on stage. But i've never danced like this, so we're even" he said. He hit "play". The music started and Robbie pulled me toward him by my wrist. he grabbed my hand, which was sweating, and held it, then put his other hand on my waist. My boobs pressed sgsinst his chest and I flinched, but Robbie didn't seem to notice. He was too busy consulting the TV screen. " Here goes nothing," he said. "Okay, it's a waltz, so one, two, three,,, one, two, three. Looks like a big step on one and two little steps on two and three. Got it?" "Sure." I so didn't have it. " Okay, go." He started to step in a circle, pulling me with him.I staggered along, mortified. " One, two, three. One two, three," he counted under his breath. My foot caught on his ankle. " Oops! Sorry." I was sweating like mad now, wishing I'd taken off my sweater, at least. " I got ya," he said, his grip tightiening on my hand. " K eep going." " One, two, three," I counted, staring down at our feet. He slammed one of his hip into one of the set chairs. " Ow. Dammit!" " Are you okay?"I asked."Yeah. Keep going," he said through his teeth. " One, two, three," I counted. I glanced up at the Tv screen, and the second I took my eyes off our feet, they got hopelessly tangled. I felt that instant swoop of gravity and shouted as we went down. The floor was not soft. " Oof?" " Ow. Okay, ow," Robbie said, grabbing his elbow. " That was not a good bone to fall on." He shook his arm out and I brought my knees up under my chin. " Maybe this wasn't the best idea." "No! No. We cannot give up that easily," Robbie said, standing. He took my hands and hoisted my up. " Maybe we just need to simplify it a little. " Actually i think its the twirl and the dip at the end that are really important," I theorized. It seemed like the most romantic part to me. " Okay, good." Robbie was phsyched by this development. "So maybe instead of going in circles, we just step side to side and do the twirl thing a couple of times. " Sounds like a plan," I said. " Let's do it." Robbie rewound the tape and we started from the beginning of the music. He took my hand again and held it up, then placed his other hand on my waist. This time we simply swayed back and forth. I was just getting used to the motion, when I realized that Robbie was staring at me.Big time." What?" i said, my skin prickling. " Trying to make eye contact," he said. " I hear eye contact while dancing is key." " Where would you hear something like that?" I said. " My grandmother. She's a wise woman," he said. His grandmother. How cute was that? His eyes were completely focused on my face. I tried to stare back into them, but I keep cracking up laughing. And he thought I'd make a good actress. " Wow. You suck at eye contact," he said. "Come on. Give me something to work here." I took a deep breath and steeled myself. It's just Robbie Delano, KJ. You can do this. And so I did. I looked right back into his eyes. And we continued to sway at to the music. His hand around mine. His hand on my waist. Our chests pressed together. I stared into his eyes, and soon i found that laughing was the last thing on my mind. " How's this working for you?”
