Stephanie Johnson does it best in her collection "One of These Things Is Not Like the Others" with the shorter stories. With these, she seems to hit the mark with writing indelible truths about the human condition in such a succinct form. Most of the other longer works, although often ending at a moment of eloquence, feels unearned because not enough attention was paid on character or story.
