The appeal of this MoMA book is primarily its illustrations of Gunta Stolzl's development from artist to Bauhaus master weaver. The text consists of excerpts from her writings, mostly diaries and letters, and gives a good atmospheric background to the work. The words reflect the build-up of tension in Germany as the Nazis gained control. Stolzl was lucky; she was able to immigrate to Switzerland and survive the war.
