his biography covers mostly the business side of Jaime Dimon's rise to the peak of the Wall Street banking titans. I was rather surprised being a business oriented type book it was also an interesting read. Dimon of course has been around for a long time and it took him a while to step out from the shadow of Sandy Weill his mentor and later somewhat antagonist.
Dimon is widely admired for his steady and studied way of operating in an environment of chaos that the banking industry has become. Chao...more

I chose this book because I had heard that Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase was one of the more responsible Wall Street leaders. Born into privilege, he attended undergraduate school at Tufts and received an MBA at Harvard (where he met his wife.) He was a Wall Street wonder in his early 30s where he was also the recipient of valuable mentors. He could be arrogant and bad tempered, however, those traits seemed to mellow through the years. Conflicts with one of his mentors resulted in his firin...more
Fascinating – and flattering – profile of financial power
Duff McDonald’s book covers a fascinating historical moment – the 2008-2009 Wall Street debacle – by profiling a pivotal character in the thick of it, Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase. Having spent extensive time with Dimon, McDonald combines his reporting with published sources, Dimon’s own writings and statements, and interviews with his associates, employees or relatives. McDonald covers Dimon’s youth, business school education and ev...more

This is a book I have been meaning to read for a long time but Franklin was reading it and I lost patience waiting for him to finish so I bought it on my nook for my Hong Kong vacation nook book readathon.
This book reads well and I enjoyed it immensely mostly because our standard of living depends on this man's success. Keep at it a few more years, Jaimie! He is a brilliant man and just quirky enough to be successful on Wall Street which exacts a heavy price. He seems to have come through unsca...more

A very interesting read, not only about Jamie Dimon's stellar life and career, but also about some of the people who inadvertently created the recent financial catastrophe, namely Sandy Weill and Robert Rubin. After reading this book, I gained a lot of respect for Dimon. One excerpt seems to summarize it well, "he proved a point he's been focused on his entire life: that you can still win while doing the right thing." In an industry full of grossly over-compensated CEOs, he's one of the rare few...more
This is a terrible book. I've come to two possible reasons: 1) Dimon himself commissioned this book to make himself look good or 2) McDonald is trying to get a job at JP Morgan and thought total, unbridled ass-kissing - in book form - would further his cause. The obvious total lack of investigative inquiry completely demolishes any semblance of credibility McDonald may have had. This is an insult to the concept of a "biography" and is perhaps the only book I've ever read which I would recommend...more

Overall interesting and readable, although an editor should have helped more on continuity and consistency, especially towards the end - sometimes it is hard to determine who is saying what about whom. Dimon is an interesting person, and seems to be a fairly good balance between cutthroat capitalism and public service.

Recommends it for:
anyone interested in business, leadership, wall street, integrity
Jamie Dimon is a great leader and inspires others who work with him to work with good principles and integrity. This is a good book regarding the history of many leading firms on Wall Street and the past few decades as the stock market has been on a steady upward climb since 1983 and see it as told about one character who emerged as the most important key player and is now on the world's stage.
