Over the years, there have been quite a few things about Zen, and how it’s presented by its teachers and masters, that I have found distasteful, pig-headed, and quite frankly, bankrupt. This book is exactly what the title says it is. Schuhmacher uses a historical approach to explain the essence of Zen, its development and evolution. At the same time Schuhmacher makes it very clear that none of that matters. "There is nothing to be taught, nothing to be transmitted. It's just a matter of seeing one's nature."
