Wanting only revenge but forced to endure some R&R, Kilted sword-wielding Vampire Robby is sent to a remote Greek Isle to heal the physical and psychic wounds which resulted from his capture and torture by the Malcontents. Robby's healing is helped along when he meets and falls in love with an 'angel', FBI Psychologist Olivia Sotiris, who is trying to get over her own psychological trauma by vacationing with her Greek grandma.

The Vampire and the Virgin is a pleasant enough addition to the L...more

Robby and Olivia's story was different from the rest because most of the time they got to know each other was from a long distance. They communicated through calls, emails, and web cam.

They actually met on a Greek island where they were both sent for work related time off. Robby because he can't get revenge off his mind after being captured and Olivia because a criminal she sent to jail using her power of feelings others emotions keeps sending her apples from a heavily guarded jail cell.

This was a good book, not the best but it was okay. I didn’t
quite like this book, and I was so excited to read Robby’s book
for months. I’m a little disappointed,I have to admit.

For the first part of this book, I thought “hey, this is my
next favorite book”. But in the middle of the book, before
Olivia fond out the truth, I was like “this sucks”. You see,
at first it was so sweet the way they got nervous and the way
Robby and Olivia’s mind were to sync. But further down the
road Olivia became t...more

This book started out great, really great and I thought, 'finally she is writing humorous story lines with out all the stupidity'. I thought too soon. About 1/4 to a 1/3 into the book, the heroine turns into a distrustful, paranoid, idiot, who doesn't allow herself to think for herself.

I did, kind of, like the book, because of the humor at the beginning and the very ending, but the middle 1/2 was bad. Every poor reaction, poor decision, bad conclusion from poor evidence, going against instinct,...more

Who do I recommend to? Do you like funny contemporaries?
Do you like paranormals?
What about the two combined?
Definitely a winner!

Why did I read it? I have been craving a vamp book.

My Rambles:
As I mentioned, I've been craving a vampire read and so when Jen gave me this, I knew I had to read it soon! I am so glad I read this!! As I was writing this post and doing that bit of research I do, I discovered that this is #8 in a series!! Wow! Ms. Sparks did an excellent job of making it very stand alone....more

There WILL be Spoilers!!

I will start by saying I don't feel like I wasted valuable time reading this book; I didn't hate it, I didn't love it. In the grand scheme of Sparks "Love at Stake" series, this book was a filler. It did nothing to push along the war with the malcontents, nor did it show anything insightful about the vampires relationship with the CIA. Instead, Sparks showed us two one-dimensional characters: Robby, who I swear was the most unoriginal of Sparks characters (how many times...more

I happened by this book in my local Krogers grocery store and paused. Everyone who knows me is willing to say that I'm getting a bit flustered with all the vamp series on the shelves today. But, this one...this little black and read paperback caught my eye. Truthfully, the cover I could give or take, but the title was an eye catcher. Then I flipped it over. "Robby's packing list" made me purchase this book. Besides that fact that a vamp named "Robby" had to have a comedic element as well as the...more

Move over Bella and Edward as there is a new couple in town and here names are Olivia Sotiris and Robby MacKay.

Olivia is a FBI psychologist. She had traveled to the Greek island of Patmos for some R&R and to visit her grand mother. Olivia’s grand mother is hoping to fix Olivia up with one of the nice men on the island. Olivia isn’t interested in any of the men.

Robby has been instructed to take some time off after his last mission. From the first moment Robby lays eyes on Olivia, he feels s...more

To be honest....i first read it for the title. As i said in my Its Monday post, sometimes us women are just as bad as men. I see the word virgin and was ready to see the vamp get with the virgin! Then after reading what it was about, i knew i was hooked into reading this book.

I liked it. I had read another book by Kerrelyn Sparks probably two years ago when i went through my huge paranormal reading stage. Every now and then i pick another one up now.

In some ways, Olivia seems just a little to...more

Romance done right. Lots of genuine-feeling emotion, humor (mostly thanks to Yia Yia, Olivia's Greek granny, although Robby has his moments), bravery, passion, and enough of a story to carry it all. Sparks creates characters that are easy to picture and like. She adds enough depth to keep the story from being complete fluff, both through the main characters' back stories and using the continuing arc of the series about fighting a group of evil vampires. And she keeps the story telling simple; ea...more

This is the story of the vampire Robert Alexander McKay aka Robby the handsome Scottish vampire with brilliant green eyes. After suffering torture at the hands of evil vampires, he is ordered to take a break from his work. While out running in what I can only describe as one of the sexiest midnight moonlight runs by any male character, Robby is spotted by the female character, while he spots her, Olivia Sotris, an FBI psychologist with an Empathic ability.
During the book I felt like I wanted to...more

This was the first book of this series that I have read and I don't know if this fact affected my opinion of the story, but I just found this story okay. I was amazed at how the story of a murderer who terrorizes the heroine of this novel, Olivia Sotiris, gets tied into the story of the evil vampires (Malcontents) who are in constant battle with the Vamps. It was implausible that of all the criminals out there the Malcontents get involved with the one criminal who is indirectly connected to Robb...more

I really liked this book but it wasn't as funny or addicting as the others in the series. Robby is sent away to recoup from his capture that has left him with post tramatic stress disorder. He meets Olivia who was sent away to recoup from her own trauma. Their chemistry is powerful but unlike other couples they don't hop into bed or on a table to move things to the next level. Their courtship is drawn out over a period of 6 months. Having experienced a long distance relationship with strong chem...more

Quotes:
Angus shrugged. “They’re bloody fiends. They deserve to die.”

“Then I can kill him now?” Robby muttered.

Angus ignored him. “Ye have two minutes, Stan. Talk.”

“And then I can kill him?” Robby asked a bit louder.

Angus shot him an annoyed look.

Robby shrugged one shoulder. “I’m trying to convince you I’m no’ crazy. If I kept doing the same thing when it wasna working, would that no’ be crazy?”

“Good point.” Carlos rinsed the bowl and placed it in the dishwasher. “So you’re trying a new strategy...more

I'm totally reading this...it's another S&G book. It's one of those reads that will make you appreciate good literature.

Though it's not as epic as the 'shitkicker' marathon in the Black Dagger series, I will still put it in the same category. You will laugh at the wrong parts, parts that are not meant to be funny, and cringe at the parts that are you are supposed to take seriously. I knew from page one that this would be an S&G book, because one of the main characters, Robby, speaks wit...more

This book was interesting. It was written well enough that I had to keep reading, despite some of the far fetched ideas. Now, I'm a CLASSIC Vampire lover so a lot of things stuck in books these days turn me off about finishing. My OCD cries that I finish every book and read all in the series if I can. I can't always do that but I try.

I thought the two main characters weren't that bad. Of course, the cover of the book looks NOTHING like the two main characters. I was pretty upset about that... Sh...more

Mini Book Review: Won't lie to you, wasn't expecting much from the title, but Natasha convinced me that I would enjoy it. She was right, it was a perfect light and funny read with plenty of action to keep the story moving. I understand that it is part of a series but the story is told in such a way, that you really don't need to read the rest of the series to figure out what is going on. Robbie and Olivia are both charming, likeable leads and the secondary characters get you intrigued enough to...more

I actually got into this book a lot more than I expected I would. It was the typical cheesy romance novel with some laugh-out-loud corny sex scenes but I enjoyed the lighter aspect of it. I will say that I almost didn't want to read it when I read the first line from Robby with his scottish accent. There were way too many "Ye's" in the place of you, and it just upped the cheese factor ten-fold. I'm glad I stuck with it but that was a major annoyance throughout the entirity of the book. Oh, and o...more

Great book; terrible title. And cover! Why does Robby look like death warmed over? He's supposed to have red hair! But I digress. Someone complained that this story didn't have good character development and was pointless because it didn't advance the overall Malcontent plot. Regarding the latter, there are other books in this series that could fall under that category, too. And while you could say that there's some truth to that complaint, I don't feel like this series is really about the Malco...more

I have read a lot of the Love at Stake series yet, but I'm already a big fan and read this book in less than a day.

In this book Robby has suffered torture by the Malcontents and is forced into a vacation to recuperate and meets a woman who he refers to as his angel. Olivia is a woman who has trouble with relationships because she has a special ability where she can tell if someone is lying and what their emotions are. Robby can't stand betrayal and Olivia has a hard time trusting especially a ma...more

In short: A funny vampire romance.
I feared I wouldn't understand a lot of things as I jumped in in the middle of a series, but have discovered that these books are perfectly readable as stand alones as each book focuses on one couple. There are some things mentioned reguarding the action storyline that have happened in earlier books, but never in a way that it takes away the enjoyment or understanding of this book. For a romance the action storyline was thought out very well and flowed very nic...more

Olivia Sotiris just needs to get away from life for awhile - including the demented serial killer who's been stalking her since she helped put him behind bars. Going to Patmos, Greece to visit her Grandmother for a few weeks seems like a good idea. Robby Mackay has been forced to go on a vacation in Greece, because he is single-mindedly focused on revenge against those who held and tortured him; even if it means harm to himself and others. Robby is just biding time at first but then he meets Ol...more

I've read all the books in the Love at Stake series, and this one wasn't one of the stronger ones. Disappointing because I liked Robby's character from the earlier books, and had hoped his story would be a great one.

High level synopsis...
Robby MacKay, a vampire, is recovering after being captured and tortured by Casimir, a Malcontent (ie, bad vampire). Although his body has mostly healed, he is still dealing with the psychological scars. An employee of MacKay Security & Investigation, Robby...more

This was one of the stupidest wannabe Sookie Stackhouse books I have ever had the misfortune to read. The title alone is enough to make one wince, but the fact that the girl is a mind-reader, etc.? And that she's a virgin, and ohoho, what should happen but the wannabe swooney vampire that she bumps into used to be married a long time ago, and is everything that is ~good and ~sexy? Yeah, I don't think so. This just bored me to tears. And I don't know if I'm remembering correctly or not, since it'...more

This is another story in the Love at Stake series. They are stand alone books as they are about different characters. I really enjoyed this one about Robby, a vampire (he's a Highlander with an awesome accent!) he is recovering from being captured and tortured by an evil vamp, Casimir. He is on a forced vacation to one of the Greek Isles. He is biding his time until he can get revenge on Casimir, and then he meets Olivia....

I love Kerrelyn sparks romances. You have a very hot Scottish Vamp in a kilt. That would be Robby MacKay and he's 300 years old. He is recovering on a Greek island, from post-tramaticic stress disorder, due to being tortured by the Malcontents. While he's jogging on the beach he meets Olivia Sotiris, a Greek American FBI agent, who is also recovering from a work related stress disorder. She also has a special power, she can tell when someone is lying, except in the case of Robby. It's love at fi...more

Kerrelyn Sparks is the New York Times bestselling author of a series that mimics its sexy heroes by refusing to die. Now up to book twelve, the Love at Stake series spreads laughter worldwide in thirteen different languages.
