Golf's Sacred Journey is a wonderful story connecting disciplines of golf with faith in God. I feel like the greatest tool that Cook displays in this story is superior knowledge of his subject matter. In this story the reader will learn about golf, fly-fishing, country life and many other things. I have very little knowledge of fly-fishing or country life, but I know a little about golf having worked at a golf course and living with a father who has been golfing since before I was born, and it i...more
This book was brutal. For a golfer the psychology seemed too metaphysical and trite. I've read some of Dr. Cooks golf psychology books and listened to audio as well and I enjoyed those. However, this was a sort of a dummied-down version of those, mixed with a funky narrative and his own evangelizing and it just didn't work for me. Perhaps a non-golfer or high handicap golfer will get something from it.

Very good book. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I was passionate about golf, however it was not inaccessible to a non-golf aficionado. My knowledge of the sport is very limited, but that didn't keep me from getting something out of this book. The principles directly applied to golf translate into any competitive endeavor, and general life as well. I am passionate about baseball, and this story is a good reminder about perspective and prioritization. One of the coolest things about this b...more
I'm not a big golfer, but I enjoyed this book immensely.
I was hooked from page one by the writing and shared in the protagonist's journey -- not only to the small town of Utopia, but also in his journey for awareness. He begins the story as a broken man, defeated by his own doing and completely lacking of any functional internal compass. By the end he's whole, focused and in charge of his own destiny. It was a great read and I loved every minute of it!

This book is so great! If you aren't a golfer it probably won't have much meaning, but if you are then this book is so touching and meaningful. It changed the way I play and the way I think on the golf course. It made me realize how much I have to learn about honoring God, not only on the golf course, but in life. You should read it even if you don't play golf! :) :) :) :) :)
A very inspirational read packed full of wisdom. "SFT.". See it, Feel it, Trust it. Then, "See Him, Feel Him, Trust His Love.". I loved this read. A great Bible study book for men or inspirational read for sports fans. Be the Johnny and where have all the Johnny's gone? I could read again down the road as a reminder to " SFT" Him in my daily walk. Loved Johnny and his wisdom! Great gift book!
This is a golfers story, and one with heart. My husband, The Golfer would give it 5 stars and has recommended it to everyone. I enjoyed the Texas Hillcountry scenery, the down home wisdom, and the lessons for life. I would have enjoyed it more with less golf. There are a few gems I plan to take into my life....that is quite a lot for a little book...maybe it deserves an extra star.
I think there are some very good lessons in here, not only for golfers but anyone who thinks the score of the game (whatever game) is most important.
Got troubles with your golf game------ read this...it might be better than $100 worth of lessons. If it doesn't beat the lessons you aren't out much.

This book is a briliant display of how a situation is only as bad or good as you wish to view it. In "Golf's Sacred Journey", David Cook takes the reader through a series of revelations and while it is focused on golf the lessons can be taken and applied to all walks of life.
Decent book - good story, interesting ideas. A little light on the plot and significance of the main character. He was a bit shallow and not really worth rooting for. The Johnny character was appropriately mysterious.
I hate Golf, so it was challenging in that respect. when i started to think of it as an allegory rather than a "golf story" I liked it much better and felt like it actually said something to me about growing, changing, and faith.
The most amazing golf book I have ever read! Loved the story, message and how your spiritual aspect of golf was a big part of the Main characters renewal in golf.
A quick read about the fact that golf much like life is all about what's between your ears! Some neat analogies and reminders about being centered and focused.
Great quick read that is a must for any competitive golfer. Also I would recommend it to anyone that plays golf or wants to understand what goes through a golfer's mind. Dr. Cook reveals what is truly important in life.
Any athlete, wanna be athlete or fan should read this book. Amazing read on believing yourself. Loved it!

Interesting story and treatment for finding meaning and faith using golf as a framework.

This was a great book. Even if you don't play golf there are sone important lessons to be learned about not always having to win.
Enjoyed. It presents a good example of how we get caught up in the things that are not important.
An interesting book regarding perspective on golf (and life in general) but the last few chapters shoe-horn religion into to story in a way that left me a bit unsatisfied; I felt that the message would have been better served without it.
Saw the movie first, actually like the movie better which is unusual. If you haven't read The Traveler's Gift, read that instead.
A fun and fast read for golfers to enjoy.

This simple, unassuming, book didn't seem like it had much to offer but I was wrong.... completely wrong! Even though it wasn't appealing in terms of title or subject, I'm going to have my kids read it too. His perspective, wisdom and insights apply not only to the game of golf but everything in life!
I was asked to read this book. I hate being told to read a book because I find something wrong with it right away. There was a lot of golf talk that I didn't get. But, this book amazed me! It was an easy read and I got a lot out of it! I would HIGHLY recommend it to everyone!!!!
I read this because of a couple of reviews in the golf magazines. It is a really good book? Not even close, but it does have some interesting mantras for us diehard golfers. In the end the abundance of sap overwhelms you.
Highly recommend this inspirational and easy read. This book is full of wisdom, love and insights that could change your life. It's not just about golf. Enjoy the sacred journey.
Couldn't get excited about this one, perhaps partly because of the silly picture of the author trying hard to look like a cowboy psychologist. I hoped...I tried to like it.
too much golfing but the philosophical points are well made. I wish there had been three pages of philosophy without all the golfing nonsense : )

My boyfriend wanted to read this book. Its use - helping us get one book knocked off for our goal to read 8 books together in 2010.
