I had a hard time with a lot of the stuff in this book - like her obsession with Blentec - but overall it was okay. The writing was not very good. She repeats herself often and some phrases are used ad nauseum. I can't think of one right now, maybe I've blocked them out.

This book is all about eating lower on the food chaim. As in vegetables and fruit. Then you mix it all in a blender and drink it. Robyn Openshaw-Pay starts by explain how she came to the revelation that she needed to change her families eating habits. So she went back to the basics raw green vegetables. She includes testominal from others who have tried her diet along with some really good recipes.

Every time my husband saw me reading this he would ask, "So is everything we eat going to kill us?" Because that's what I told him I felt like after I'd read the first chapter. While the author subscribes to a mostly raw, whole foods diet, and she certainly promotes that, this book is really focusing more on the benefits of her "green smoothies" and there is comfort in her encouragement that even just a pint to one quart a day of green smoothies can drastically improve health...more
This whole green smoothie movement definately has a good side. My main concern is the emphasis on raw hardy greens (e.g. kale, broccoli, etc.). Their anti-nutrients and hardy fiber are a bit too much for most people. Robyn is also very vegan minded, but I am willing to overlook that because I wasn't looking for nutritional advice in the book anyway. With that said, I like Robyn's simple approach to making smoothies. She gave me some good ideas, I made a really tasty and nutrient-dense smoothie r...more
This book wasn't particularly well-written (it seems like the author has done quite a bit of research, but most of her sources are not cited, and there is something about the way she oversimplifies the science that makes me suspicious of her research methods). BUT eating (or drinking) lots of vegetables and fruits is definitely a good thing, no matter how sloppy one's research is. I LOVE the idea of using green smoothies to dramatically increase daily veggie consumption, and her smoothie recip...more
Once I started reading this book I couldn't put it down. It's an easy read, although I admit there were several parts I skimmed because it became a little wordy and redundant. It is so full of information on how to live a healthier life. I'm not as die-hard as Openshaw, but I will be incorporating many of her tips and ideas into my family's diet. We already enjoy green smoothies, but this book has helped me learn how to take them to the next level. No, I don't plan to buy a Blendtec.
Just downed my first green smoothie. My kids are all sick so they got some too. NO complaints. It was really very good. It was nice to know that a whole glass full of raw food went down easily. Our normal food consumption really stinks on the healthy end, so I'm going to do better.
This is what I put in our first smoothie: Kangen water, spinach, spring greens, agave nectar, flaxseed, peach, banana, plums, pineapple, carrots, celery, and frozen mixed berries. Now that's a lot of good stuff!!

I don't like the title of this book because it makes it sound like a diet book. It's not really about losing weight, more about being healthy. I like a lot of her ideas, but disagree with some (I don't think a raw, vegan diet is healthy for most people, also the chapter on cleansing kind of weirded me out). We really like the green smoothies, though, and I feel like I have more energy when I drink one for breakfast.
I loved this book. Before I was halfway through, I knew I wanted a copy of this book for my personal library. Even though she advocates a vegan lifestyle, she's not so "diehard" about it, as some I've read. I've tried the smoothies, and feel this is something I can do, and can work into my lifestyle. While I'm not ready to go completely vegetarian, I can still benefit from the smoothies; we all can.
This is a great resource book. So many books have green smoothie recipes with ingredients you may or may not have, but in this book Robyn Openshaw gives you the tools to make your own with whatever you have. This was a simple book outlining the benefits of green smoothies and helping you know how to make them. She gives good resources for finding more in depth information if you want. I also did happen to try two of her recipes and loved them!
I don't like that it is called a "diet" book. This has become a WAY OF LIFE for my family. I have so much energy, lower cholesterol and overall feeling of health since I started drinking green smoothies everyday. Can't get enough. LOVE the Green Smoothie Girl!!
I only gave this book 2 stars because I didn't agree with everything the author claimed. However, she did include a lot of useful information too. I liked all of the great suggestions and info about so many different fruits and vegetables. It also has some good recipes at the end.
Excellent resource with great information. Only criticism is that Openshaw occasionally takes the leap from correlation to causality when she makes health claims related to green smoothie consumption.
Not so much a "diet" as a change in the way we live and eat. It's really changed how I look at what I put in my body. There's a website: greensmoothiegirl.com that I look at every single day now. LOVE IT!!
Looking for a way to consume more servings of vegetables throughout your day? Green Smoothies is a quick and easy way to do it! Plus, they are delicious!!
Refreshingly cold and delightfully tasty, these nutrient packed smoothies take just 10 minutes to prepare.

This book was the kick-off to our new approach on eating nutritiously. I ADORE Robyn Openshaw and she's a lifetime wealth of information. I wish everyone would read this!
I have been doing the green smoothie thing almost every day for almost a month. This was an interesting book that will help encourage me to keep up the green smoothie habit.
I loved this book. It got me started on a whole new way of eating and it is really amazing. I have gotten tons of others hooked too and they have made great changes too.
I really enjoyed reading this book. What a fantastic way to incorporate greens into your diet. Even my two kids (2 & 4) love them.
Great book! We drink green smoothies every day and feel great! A great way to get so many vitamins in so little time.
Love it.....It is a great intro into nutrition and along with my new Blend Tec blender, I have become a green smoothie girl
This book is full of really good information. I hope I will be successful as I try to incorporate it into my diet.
Relatively informative, and the recipes sound good for the most part, but the book could do without 30 pages of testimonials from bloggers or readers.
good recipes, informative. i've been drinking smoothies for more than six months, but this gave me some new ideas.
Reading this book encouraged me to try green smoothies - and I really like them and how they make me feel.
I am a believer! Been drinking green smoothies since reading this and recommend the diet and book!
Can't wait to try out my first smoothie.
I have one everyday!
I wasn't in love with how this book was written but this book did have a lot of helpful insight about how I should be eating.
