His eyes stayed closed, but he wore a painful grimace on his face. Perspiration beaded on his forehead and traveled downward, streaking his temples.
Chalyce knelt before him, looking up into the face contorted with anguish. “ Race?" she said again, louder this time. His shirt hung open and she could see that every muscle revealed there was tensed. His legs were t

This was REALLY, REALLY GOOD for one of Marcia's first works ever. I read it all in one night even though I didn't start reading until midnight! I just couldn't put it down! I hope one day Marcia will make this story into a longer version because it is so good but too short and a little bit lacking in info. Like it never was explained exactly why Race was going to that lady's house once a month and always at night time?? And then I just thought the ending was just a little over the top. But othe ...more

This is different than Marcia’s other books; it has more of the old Gothic Romance feel to it. Race rescues Chalyce from a kidnapping and is forced to shelter her for the winter in his home. So, it was a fun setting, but I think Race was just a little too mean to Chalyce, at least in the beginning. I get why he is broody and gruff, he has a disturbing past [A girl he was somewhat dating finds out he isn’t interested and thinks he loves her sister instead. She decides to kill herself. I wasn’t su ...more

Liked it, but didn't love it. There we parts that were hilarious, like the smashing of the plate against Race's chest. I loved how he was big on jesting and horseplay. I loved her fiery temper. I love most of McClure's books...this one just rates a little lower than 5 stars. Still a great book, though.

This book is not on my favorites. I am getting tired of the brute for a hero, and was thrown by the closeness the protagonist seems to have to the cook and then turns on him when he comes to her aid. I know that it kind of foreshadows what he becomes later, but that bothered me too, because there was no building up to the change in their friendship, it was just a flip of the coin and suddenly he goes from being kind to a scoundrel. I tolerate a few plot holes in these books, but this one was too ...more

10/13/14 - Its amazing how much your mood, and stage of life affects you. This was my least favorite of the Romantic Vignettes: The Anthology of Premiere Novellas this time around. The graphic violence really bothered me this time...probably would knock it down to 3 stars, so let's give it 3.5

8/12/12 - Perfect little Beauty and the Beast book. A little violent at a couple of spots, but good none the less. My favorite of the three short stories.

Moral Note: Passionate kissing, violence.

This was a very cute book. A little bit like Beauty and the beast and I love Beauty and the Beast. I felt like it was too short that there was more you could add to the story but it still was a good book and I did enjoy reading it. There is one part in there that made my tummy turn but it was okay cause the rest of the book makes up for it. Good fast read kind of book

Another great MLM short story. Only 47 pages this ebook was perfect for a quick read on a busy afternoon. I love everything I've read by Marcia Lynn McClure.

some of her early works - good, but she gets really good with her later books! This is part of a book with several short stories.

(Smiley face). One question: why is it that the sterotypical male cannot recognize a conniving female to save his life?

The is story reminded me of beauty and the beast. I didn't like how mean and harsh he was all the time. Good story though.

Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Marcia Lynn McClure grew up influenced by the reminiscent stories of rugged, rural Colorado farm life fascinatingly recounted to her by her parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts…tales of runaway buckboards, mule-drawn plows and dust pneumonia; verbalized images of stream-flooded meadows, frozen over in winter, where a child could peer through the crystal clear ic ...more
