I've always liked L'Amour's Sackett books, and have re-read them on several ocassions. But as I read this one, I was suprised how little of it was familiar, which tells me I had only read this one once or twice. I was pleasantly surprised, it's one of the better Sackett novels. there are some intelligent twists to this one that you don't expect. It's a western, but it's a good one. It is what it is. I don't go to L'Amour expecting deep philosophy, I go for escape and fun.

this book is very interesting and action pact even though it the first sackett book that i had read it got my attention from the start.the criminal outlaw having a change of heart for the better and stoped being selfish as he guides a group of "yellabellys" through the old wild west.at first he was just doing it for the money then as he got to know the poeple he was guiding he became emotionly attached specially to a young women named penalope.later find out that the city poeple that h More...

Okay so this was the first Louis Lamour book I have ever read and I've got to be honest...it was pretty good. It was action packed from the first page to the very last. Lamour's characters were all suspicious and untrustful. Throughout the story I was always wary about each character's intent and wondered where their loyalties laid. The story was filled with action, suspense, and interesting characters...all the makings of a good book.

I've got to say though, throughout the bo More...

From the time when I first read this novel in eighth grade, I was determined to one day have a son named Nolan. Twenty years later, I finally did, but I wasn't able to talk my wife into "Sackett" for a middle name. Still love reading this book and one of these days I'm going to go find that canyon from the end of the book!

I am almost through the entire "Sackett" series. This one was fast paced, not as easy to anticipate as most and a fun easy read. Probably the one in the series that I enjoyed the most. L'Amour at his best............you know white hats , black hats, ,men's men, good guys and bad guys. There are few characters that are forgetably boring. In any case it's off to the last of the series having enjoyed this effort.

The character of the girl is boring. The Sackett must be a buy in cause he ain't no Sackett. Think he may be a wannbe.

The story was not one of the better ones. Enough grousing.

Read it. Guy looks for hidden gold & picks up a woman who's looking for it too. They race some unsavory characters to get there first.

Full of action and adventure while set in cowboy days. Great book. Perfect for getting into the mindset of cowboys/men of action.

My Grandpa and I call these "plane books" because of their fun and easy to read nature. Great to bring while traveling.

You just have to love L'Amour books. Simple, interesting, fun! What the old wild west must have been like!

Fun and kept a fast pace. It's the 2nd of the Sackett series that I've read and I've liked both of them.

First book so far (from what I've read) told from the perspective of one of the Clinch Mountain Sacketts. Nolan was a surprisingly enjoyable character to follow, and I liked his woman. Again, the ending took my off guard, but I think it was mainly because I was listening to it. Since I can't see the pages as I'm getting toward the end, and since L'Amour tends to end abruptly, it sometimes takes me off guard. However, once I stopped and re-listened to the last minute or so again, I had a better f More...

A nice re-read. I had forgotten that this novel had a strong woman character in it. Penelope can ride, shoot, and elude capture. Yeah for strong women characters.

I loved this book, only nothing really happens to him and the girl. But very good adventure and believable story.
