Living in the heart of Swiss Alps myself, in a region with caves which have never been fully plumbed…I will not rule out any speculation on life in the rock. Hartmann does a credible job of leading the reader into the story; however the resolution leaves me a bit empty. Although the story takes place in Germany, the untersberg is the untersberg. And gnomes? German, Swiss, or of their own? Undersea or under rock, of which landscape do we know the most?
