The theme, be content with who you are, is a lesson that Donkey-Donkey has to learn the hard way. This story is 61 years old, and yet seems as fresh as if written yesterday--the sign of a true classic. Love the pictures, love the story--highly recommended!
the whole reason for my tracking down and now owning this book is the illustrations.
drawings of donkey-donkey being tended to by the doctor spread across two pages near the middle of the book and are some of the sweetest things i've ever seen. the story itself is the same old, same ol': like who you are, be yourself, don't wear your ears(hair) all weird just cause the other kids are doing it or you'll end up with a nail in your face and then how will you feel? foolish.

Humorous story of a donkey who tried to be somebody else, but finally realized it was good to just be who he was. Great moral.
Another childhood favorite of mine. I loved the illustration's and I must have read this book a hundred times.
This mention on the Vintage Books My Kid Loves blog, brought back great memories. I loved this book.
Found this at a church yard sale. Very sweet story about a donkey with big ears.
