Paxton's Winter is an old classical western romance with the twist to be a male on male love story. But if not for this twist, all the other elements of a good western romance are there: the wealthy and cultured southern man with more ideals than better sense who chose to live in the Far West were he can be who he really wants to be (and due to that twist here it means that he was in love with not only a man, but also a black man); then the villain decided that he didn't like our southern hero,...more

I love this book - I've read it about twenty times and I never get bored of it. Paxton Terhune and Zane Steadman are men of their era, bold and brash, strong and sensitive - human. The classical Western brought into m/m romance. The setting is vivid and gorgeous, the secondary characters bright with tenderness or malice as called upon. One can almost picture the snow capped peaks and smell the mountain meadows, feel the warm glow of sunshine down a slot canyon with its arty stripes of stone. A f...more

In the old west bounty hunter finds his prey who’s like a Western/Southern James Bond to me (but gay), ends up believing him that he’s not the bad guy, they fall in love and band together to take out the bad guy with a gun battle in the street. My only concern was within 48 hours the bounty hunter changes his mind, falls in love and decides to stay with him forever and ever. HEA. I think if things had taken place over a longer period of time I’d have found it more believable but I still liked it...more

I liked the story but there were some things that just happened too fast to be believable. And what kind of rugged ranchers and bounty hunters, even gay rugged ranchers and bounty hunters, use the word adorable about each other?

T. D. McKinney was born with eclectic tastes. Author, artist, web designer - those tastes show in the careers she's chosen.

Growing up on the American Gulf Coast, she gained a great appreciation for all things Southern and a fascination with what the community around her termed the War of Northern Aggression. Frequent trips to New Orleans to visit relatives instilled an early love for that city and...more
