This book fell flat for me. I don't mind when a book is predictable, if the love story is amazing, and this just wasn't. I never felt a real connection between the two main characters. I did like the little town of Poetry Texas, and I loved all of the clever little names for the shops.

Absolutely one of the WORST "Historical Christian Romance" novels I've ever read, for the following reasons:
1) Heroine never developed, never became sympathetic, but persisted in being somewhat of an airhead. She purports to be a business woman but never thinks things through. She insists she is a good Christian woman but never prays about the biggest decisions she makes - and laments the fact after each failure. She seems downright insipid.
2) Romantic interest is a wooden block. No personality....more

Poetic. Romantic. Humorous. Just some of the MANY ways that I would describe this fantastic addition to both the Love Finds You series AND Janice Hanna's amazing, God filled novels. They are all absolutely fantastic and with Poetry, Texas' charming, lovable characters, I was instantly pulled into the story and swept away by the stanzas of the story. An absolutely wonderful feeling. I loved being taken back to the early 1900's , seeing the sweet town of Poetry come to life, with all the shops and...more

This was my second book in a row by Janice Hanna (aka. Janice A. Thompson), and I really enjoyed it as well. I love the different spin she put on Mail-Order Brides...it was witty, charming, and romantic, all at the same time!! Mail-Order Bride stories are a favorite of mine, so when I saw this book was going to be released, I knew I had to have it. I'm so glad I got the chance to read it, and now share my review with you.

Poetry is an interesting method of communication. It was amazing and good writing in my opinion to find poetry woven not only through out the prose of this story, but also into the metaphors and descriptions of a Christian life. God is the ultimate poet if only we would listen for the next stanza of our lives before jumping on our own. I felt that this book had a bit of a slow start but picked up after the first few chapters when all of the brides began arriving. A nice twist on the typical mail-order bride story, and a lot of colourful characters filled the little town of Poetry! I liked the cute, poetry-related names that all of the shops had, and the poetry written by Belinda, Georg and Peter was quite fun. While I did thoroughly enjoy reading this book, it didn't really have that spark that made it stand out from other his...more
This is an amazing book! I would love to see it made into a movie. The whole time I was reading this book, I was laughing. The characters in this book are so funny! I loved them all. The way Janice paired them all off was genius. She really showed how God’s plan isn’t always our own, and when that happens we need to be joyful and realize that God has something better for us than we had for ourselves. I don’t normally like poetry, but in this book it is very down to earth. The poetry isn’t so dee...more
Honestly, I wasn't very impressed with the story line or with the main character. However, Janice Hanna did a great job crafting the story and creating such a wide variety of characters. (That is why I rated the book as highly as I did.) "Poetry, Texas" is very light reading and is quite humorous in parts. I am glad the author included a historical note about the town itself.
I started yesterday and FORCED myself to put down last night so I could get to bed at a decent hour. *G* Just finished it a few minutes ago. Really enjoyable read! Sweet, and often humorous, illustration of just how big a mess we can make when we get ahead of the Lord, and how He cleans up those messes. Belinda is a wonderful character! Highly recommend this book!
Poetry started out rather trite, but as it progressed you might say it went a long way towards coming into its own. The two main protagonists characterizations were richer, especially Georg's. Belinda & Georg are two very likeable and mostly believable people. It was a pleasant read.
Lovely, silly, charming, totally poetic, and absolutely funny!!! I have read this book in one night flat because i couldn't put it down... great sub stories and overall moral of the book. Poor-poor Greig and Belinda deserved some great spanking but that is what made it so much fun.
Janice has a way of intertwining love and humor together.

3.25 stars! This was such a cute book!! A woman named Belinda lives in a highly male populated town and decides to play match-maker by picking out mail-order brides from the newspaper. She especially wants to help her best friend Georg, the barber. Will her matches be successful? Or will her heart end up bruised in the process! This had some humorist parts and a lot of God-inspiring situations. Learn to depend on God's timing, is what I learned from the plot. I loved it!
I had somewhat of a difficult time ...relating or bonding with Belinda. And Georg seemed to be swayed by a pretty face more than his heart. It was a sweet book, but there were so many different brides and grooms that I could not keep them straight. They just became names to me. All in all, it was a good book. I think part of my problem was that I was expecting romance with a story; instead I got a story with a little romance.
Great story. Love how they have a running them with Poetry terms and poems throughout the story. Great story of a match maker who tries to find a perfect match for the men in her town. Even if she thinks her perfect match should be matched with someone else in the beginning. In the end she learns that no matter what, she can't be God, she can only allow opportunities to happen and allow God to take control
