John has lived on a small, Scottish island his entire life. He's afraid of how his community and his family will react if they find out his secret--he's gay. He's managed to keep his sexuality hidden from everyone except his two best friends. His lonely existence changes the minute he sees Nick step off the ferry. Nick has come to the island to live in the house that he's deceased uncle left him. Haunted by an ability that he doesn't want and broken by a tragic accident, he hopes to settle on

Laying A Ghost is the first book in the paranormal trilogy of the same name and was a nice enjoyable read.
Our heroes, John and Nick, first meet when Nick, who is recovering from an accident in which he lost his lover and business partner, moves from the United States to the small Scottish island town of Traighshee. John is a fisherman and the town's taxi driver and has lived his whole life in the small town along with his extended family.

The story is about two young men meeeting in an isolated setting, and the events which are triggered by their (inevitable, since this is slash) growing attraction. John McIntyre is thirty – a fisherman, a fisherman’s son, occasional taxi driver and handy man. He’s lived on Traighshee all his life, although he visits the mainland for social reasons and for trysts with strangers to satisfy the homosexuality he’s concealed from all but a single close friend among his local community. He knows every

Laying a Ghost by Jane Davitt and Alexa Snow was a good contemporary read with some paranormal elements. The setting was well drawn and I enjoyed the premise. However, I did find the middle really lagged at times and it was occasionally a struggle to finish. There was much angst and lovely drama and the relationship was very passionate. Just needed to be more tightly written with an eye to better pacing.

Let me get minus points out first, then I will talk about the plus ones :)
What I dislike
+ The overwhelming love-making scenes and ... I have come to that point, where I appreciate just one or two love-making scene and focus on character/story building rather than having so many of that scenes spreading around in almost every chapter.
+ The long conversation about issues that have already been said over and over again is overcooked. At one point, I want to knock Nick More...

I'm giving up for now... maybe I'll try it again, but now I lost my enthusiasm to read this serie
My motives are very personal and are:
1) First of all, the the principal motive is the writing.

There was something about John's voice, his accent, that was comforting, and Nick didn't think it was just it reminded him of how his mother had sounded when he was small - her accent had faded after years in the States until, by the time she'd gotten sick, it was barelyMore...

As a fan of other work of the authors’, I really wanted to like this book. The setting and plot all seemed to create an interesting and thought provoking story. Unfortunately the execution needs some serious work and I struggled to finish this. I put it down several times and although I was motivated to get to the end, it wasn’t always easy. The pacing is off, the characters are shallow, and the plot seems to meander without a clear focus. There are hints of interest and the main couple is nice,

I think Laying a Ghost was my first ever m/m book (The Tin Star was the second), and I loved it. Nick Kelley is an American with a secret, trying to escape his past in a remote village in Scotland (one of my favorite places). John McIntyre's a local who's still in the closet. The story has a touch of paranormal to it and is so poignant it brought tears to my eyes. If you're a lover of m/m romance, this one's a great story to add to your TBR pile. I haven't read all of Davitt & Snow's Loose Id bo

I really enjoyed the interaction between the main characters, the awkwardness at the beginning and the familiar that develops. I was not able to put it down once I started reading it.

I loved this series. The MCs were believeable and the writing was strong. I really like this author!

Very good paranormal m/m romance set on a Scottish island, about a fisherman who's lived there all his life and a guy who comes to the island to live in the house his uncle left to him. Even with the insta-love aspect of the story, I really enjoyed this book. I know there are two additional books (and I have them already), but I'm not not sure I'll be reading them soon because this really felt like a complete story unto itself.

Such a lovely read. I am almost afraid to read the sequel - That it won't live up to the well-balanced romance this was. Wow.
