I really don't know what to say. This one was one of those books that grossed the hell out of me. It felt more like author was trying to voice his own perverse fantasies rather than trying to tell a story to a reader. I think this story should have stayed in his head.

I consider this fetish (BDSM in this case) erotica, not erotic romance because if you take out the sex and all of the emotion involved with the sex, there's not much left. A "How To" article pointed me to Dr. Mabeuse's "A Good Student" as an example of how to write a good bdsm story. I read the first chapter and then wasted no time to purchase the entire novel and download it to my Kindle.

I read a lot of BDSM-themed books, and only about 1/4 of them are even worth mentioning.
Dr. Mabeuse gets it right every time. I became an instant fan and auto-buy anything with his name attached to it. This man knows what he is writing about, intimately. He is an intuitively smart man, which I think makes him an even more amazing writer.

This book is really a 3.5 star. However, since I round down, it shows up as 3. Half way through this book, my heart was slowly breaking for Connor. He started out wanting sex only but as it says in the story blurb, he falls for Emma. We never really know until the end if Connor will be able to keep Emma or not. This was strangely fascinating. The writing is rich and emotional and perfectly lucid at times and then switches without warning to crude and crass and downright filthy. I suppose that was the intention.

This was quite a different type of book than I'm used to. A BDSM love story from the point of view of the Dom. I've never been a fan of stories narrated in that way. What I loved most about this book was that it was told solely from the Dom's POV. It was insightful and refreshing to get into Connor's head, as most of the BDSM books I'd read were from the the female submissive's POV. Between the BDSM and the forbidden teacher-student relationship, the taboos made this book sizzle. It was more than just the sex though, the relationship between Connor and Emma was complicated and emotionally intense.
Hands down one of the best BDSM books I've ever read.

I really enjoyed this story. I chose it based on the BDSM themes and because it was written by a male. I certainly wasn't expecting something so real to life or cerebral(as cerebral as a BDSM book can be anyway ;). This story almost read like a memoir that lets us delve into the mind and heart of a Dom towards his sub. Of course there's lots of hot sex but there was a depth to the story that's suprising. I definitely recommend it.
Ok, so I had to walk away from this book after I read it before I could review it. I was very disturbed after reading this. Not by the content, but my reaction to it. This is probably one of the most well-written pieces of erotica I have ever read. Mr. Mabeuse is an awesome story-teller and has a grasp on titillation that I've never come across in a man before! He has taken a forbidden subject and woven a novel that will leave you breathless and begging for more!

I really enjoyed this book to the point where I resented going to work and doing housework because it was interfering with reading it. Not only was it the first erotic book I had read written by a man, it was also the first from a Doms pov - It was well written with great dialogue, it had hot sex but was also emotional.
I'm giving this book a 3.5, I thought it was good and raunchy but man could Conner talk. Blah, blah, blah, blah... was all I read/heard for like 100 pages. I thought it was a great start to this book. The sex scenes were very intense but in a good way. What I really didn't like though was the name calling that Connor did to Emma, its not my thing at all and it really put me off and thats why I give this book 3 stars. I think I really did like and enjoy Mr Mabeuse's writing style though. If name calling isn't an issue for you I think you will really like this book.
