Warning: There is no way to spoil this book. But, if you persist in reading this review know that I will talk about this book in detail because there is no other way to convey the experience of it. I may also talk about other books, so if you haven't read Pride and Prejudice and have somehow missed the plot, characterization, and themes of that novel, your name is probably Regina Jeffers and you may want to skip the rest of this review.

I had high hopes. I read the first paragraph or More...

I guess I really should give 1.5 stars because I found this book so (unintentionally) humorous. I did skim through some parts of the story; I was a little curious how it would end. The only resemblance between this book and Pride and Prejudice were the characters' names and the Regency setting. I am always entertained by cheesy, cliched romance-writing, which I suppose is similar to my enjoyment of watching a bad movie just to make fun of it. So it is only for the purpose of such entertainment t More...

It seems that these re-imagined classic are all the rage. I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked up this book but I was pleasantly surprised. The author is obviously very familiar with the original and the overall style of Jane Austen. I liked the fact that she took the time to base her editions to the plot (namely the supernatural stuff) of folklore from the British Isles. To be fair, I think she could have explained it better within the book but it was a unique spin on a vampire myth. More...

The first half of this book is light, easy to read romance - maybe what a slightly trashier version of P&P would have been. The vampire elements are barely introduced until at least halfway into the book. Then, about 2/3 of the way through the story they suddenly take over. The last bit of the book is all vampire-stabbing, gothic rage. It doesn't resemble P&P in the least.

After I finished this book, I decided to go ahead and read the original Pride & Prejudice. The plot of Price a More...

As I have said, I really liked it! I was skeptical, since I was weirded out by Amanda Grange's book, but I was totally engrossed in this P&P variation. I couldn't put it down--but I have to admit, I was a little scared while reading (blame it on really late nights and frisky cats). Wickam was totally scary, but in a good villainous way. I felt that Lizzie was really a strong character (physically and mentally) and I felt that Darcy's Dhampir was broody vampire done right (even though he was More...

It gets two stars because I actually managed to finish it. I do find it ironic that at the beginning of the book the author states her intention of being such a fan of Austen that she was persuaded to undertake this project so that it wouldn't be like all those other second rate Austen sequels, parallels, etc who didn't get the characters correct.

Hubris.

Good basic idea. She had clearly done research, but for me it was 'not' in the least bit Austen.

I thought this would be a fun adaptation. Alas it seems the writer is used to writing romance novels. She butchers the story - which is to be expected, but she destroys the characters Which is unforgivable. These are not Austen's Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy. It is more like a version of Twilight set in Regency era England. The saddest part of the book, besides that I wasted my time on it, was that Elizabeth and Darcy spend most of the book insecure about each other's love, even after they a More...

I do agree with the statement that the book is written in "Austen style" and is "faithful to its Regency-era setting", but I would have enjoyed this book better if it did not try to profess a connection to "Pride and Prejudice". It felt like someone trying to jam a square peg into a round hole.

Even taking the whole vampire-curse situation in to account, the characters just did not ring true with their counterparts in Jane Austen's original.

Vampire Darcy's Desire is an escapist mash-up of Jane Austen and paranormal fanfiction. The Jane Austen purist will frown on the rapidity at which Elizabeth and Darcy get together and the plot veers off from Pride and Prejudice. Retired English teacher (and initially self-published author) Regina Jeffers portrays Fitzwilliam Darcy as a sympathetic dhampir (half-human and half-vampire). The bearer of a two-century old curse on firstborn male Darcys, he has forsaken hopes for a normal life to let More...

This is the first Pride and Prejudice sequel/variation I had read that had any paranormal element to it. I was VERY skeptical going into this book, because honestly, Darcy and Elizabeth just shouldn’t be messed with that way. However, I was able to keep an open mind when it came to Mr. Darcy’s being a half-vampire. And when it comes down to it, I’m glad I did, because I ended up really enjoying this book.

It is obvious to any reader that Jeffers put some serious thought into the backg More...

So having been sucked in (haha) by the vampire craze, and being a huge Austen Pride and Prejudice fan I obviously had to read this book.

The author takes great liberties with the story, changing the original storyline often to fit the Vampire aspect. The book has tons of grammatical errors as well as spelling issues and word misplacement, but if you can read beyond that the story is an intriguing one.

I was a bit shocked at first about what Jeffers did with Lizzies chara More...

This is superior to Amanda Grange's Mr. Darcy/Vampyre. The author uses an actual Scottish ballad to tie the story line together. Jeffers had done extensive research on vampire legends through the years and tried to choose those items which would have operated during the Regency period. She keeps some of Austen's story elements (Wickham goes to Northumbria, seduces Lydia, etc.) will writing a viable paranormal romance.

So...my friends bought this as a joke for me b/c I was annoyed at their drawing comparisons between P&P and Twilight while we were watching the 1995 P&P miniseries. So far, and I'm not really that far into it, it has been awful. I suppose some people might think its fun, but I am a P&P purist. Don't even get me started on P&P&Zombies... The things that bother me the most aren't even the fact that Darcy is a dhamphir or that Wickham is some centuries old vampire or that both are connected to More...

I couldn't bring myself to finish this book because it was so effing horribly boring. The first two chapters were nice, alright. But then it just got illogical - I mean, Darcy and Elisabeth met, like, two times and then they're making out in some library? The hell? You gotta be kidding me!
And it's so unbearably cheesy! They assure each other of their undying love for the other one every second page. Not to forget that for some reason or another they're having Bella-Edward conversations a More...

not bad as far as Pride and Prejudice adaptations go. Regina changed the story a bit which is why maybe I was able to believe the whole Vampire issue. It was kind of like reading about characters you loved in a different story. I love the characters in the original more so that Jane Austens writing style so for me to beable to revisit characters I loved may be why I gave it 4 stars.

I really thought this book would be awful - Vampires being so overdone right now, but I was pleasantly surprised. This book is very Austen. It is a romance with this little problem of some of the players having strange appetites. I liked it. The author is a true Austen fan. She kept the feel of Austen's books.

This was an decent book, however it is much closer to a classic gothic vampire book then it is to a Jane Austen novel. I loved the historical parts and how they tied into the story and I absolutely loved Wickham's character and the part he played in the story. I was disappointed because some of my favorite parts and characters were missing from the story or had extremely reduced parts. I also felt Jane, Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth among others were extremely different characters.

I am not a big vampire fan but I am a huge Darcy fan! So when I came to this book I was a bit unsure if I would like it. I found it was VERY GOOD. I liked how Ms. Jeffers linked it to the Scottish ballad of Lord Thomas and Fair Elender. Darcy and Elizabeth fight together to end the curse that has been in the Darcy family for generations. Great story! I'm glad I read it!

NOT RECOMMENDED because it's a bodice ripper, stolen from the original. Too bad; the premise is interesting--Darcy's family cursed for generations with vampirism because of an ancestor's folly. It's marred by very cheap romance writing, however, with lots of racing hearts and sexual hinting.

It was an interesting adaptation, although I was sure one thing was going to happen and it didn't, so I had a slight surprise there. I think though the author may have forgotten what she wrote in order to make it happen. Also, there are a lot of editorial mistakes that must be overlooked.

This book is simply atrocious. Every sentence is cringe worthy. At the end of each paragraph there is a strong urge to bang yor head against the wall in hopes of ridding this ridiculous book. If you are a fan of Pride and Prejudice don't bother with this adaptation.

This book was great because it told parts of the story from Darcy's POV. I liked that. The book was also, mostly, pure cheese. It was like the author wanted to write a good harlequin/supernatural story and couldn't think of an appropriate setting so she stole the names and places from P&P. Overall, it's pretty good fan fiction.

This book is not for those of you who are Austen purists. She begins the book with the characters as we know them, but veers off sharply with Jane and Elizabeth's stay at Netherfield. So, I'm a little embarrased to admit I read this book - but I decided to be honest here and add it to my goodreads list. I didn't like the first chapter or two, but after that the book grabbed my attention. Overall it was an entertaining read.

Eh, interesting, but skillful rendition of the traditional love story. Pretty sensual and suspenseful like typical vampire stories. It's okay, depending on how loyal you are to the original story.

I really wanted to like this book. Serious bore. It probably could have been condensed to half its length and STILL been too long, which made it very difficult for me to get through. It did have its moments, but I found them too fleeting in comparison to the daunting periods of unnecessary conflict between Elizabeth and Darcy. I felt that if I had to endure one more of their dramatic encounters, I could easily justify setting the novel on fire, but I blame that on myself and not necessarily the More...

I desperately tried to get through this book but to no avail. It is merely a campy romance novel disguised as another Austin parody. I was hoping for something dark and suspenseful but got just plain mush. Not worth the time.

I made it to over 100 pages in this one and I just can't finish it. I was expecting a lot more from this one and I didn't get it. I have a million other books to read so if this one doesn't hold my interest that far into the book, I'm giving up. I just didn't like the twist Jeffers takes with Elizabeth and Darcy. Maybe one day I'll try again, but for now...nah.
