Sea Swept tells the story of the first of those boys, Cameron. He was the first troubled boy that Ray and Stella Quinn took in and saved. Now that he's grown, Cam travels the world racing boats, cars, motorcycles, dating models, gambling, and just plain old having a great time. But when his adopted father is in a fatal car accident, he must return to St. Christoper on the Chesapeake Bay where he learns that just before the accident that eventually kills him, Ray Quinn had taken in another troubled boy. A boy with secrets no one but Ray knew, and he's no longer there to answer the Quinn brothers questions.

This book, at least in my opinion, is a quintessential Nora Roberts romance. Great characters, a strong sense of family, and a romance that draws you in and makes you fall in love along with the hero and heroine. I first read this book years ago, but it's one that stands out in my mind and one I like to go back and reread once in a while, especially when I want a great romance and family story.

I love heroes that are rough-edged and Cam is definitely that. He likes to swear, he wears jeans most of the time, wears his hair long. Yet there's something about him that's rather endearing. And the heroine, Anna, is the perfect match for him. She's fiery and passionate and is strong enough to stand up against Cam's Alpha personality. The sparks flow between them from their first meeting.

What I really enjoy about this book, though, is the overall story. Three brothers suddenly find themselves in charge of a damaged 10-year-old boy and it changes all their lives. The story focuses on Cam and Anna, but you still feel like you know everyone else - Ethan, Phillip, Seth. And Ray. Despite the fact that he has a small appearance in the beginning and then dies, Roberts still makes you feel like you know him.

Seth's storyline is wonderfully done. I loved reading the interactions between Cam and Seth, and Seth and everyone else. You really feel the boys pain and just want to hug him and protect him. And the way it's all set up, you can't wait to keep reading the rest of the series to see how everything plays out.

This is just a great romance/people/family story to read. I loved every part of it and it's one that will always be on my keeper shelf.(less)

My first book by Nora Roberts was "Vision in White". I actually read the entire series (Bride Quartet) since I bought the 4 books at the same time. I liked it but there was something lacking, something that didn't capture me as other stories do.
I was even reluctant to read Nora Roberts again but she has so many books and she's considered one of the best romance authors, so how could I not give her books another try?

I have always loved this series and Cameron's HEA is one of my favorites. He's just as a fabulous alpha-hero. Playboy boat racer who is suddenly faced with great changes in his life, after his adopted father's death.

I loved this book! I'm glad I decided to read it after seeing Isis_FG's review of it. The interaction between the brothers was wonderful and, in my opinion, made the whole story worthwhile. I felt the romance between Cameron and Anna actually came second place to the story of the Quinn family and that was the perfect way it should be. It's about Cameron finding his true path in life and embracing it. And, of course, he finds love for Anna and Seth too. I'm anxious to read the rest of the series.

The main thing I object is, cliché. Am I that stupid? Yes, I am. I really enjoy romances, quick light fix of alpha male and alpha female, just it’s hard to find an intelligent romance. But it is. And because I'm a junkie, I need my fix. So, I settle with everything, anything. Although, Roberts has a reputation as big as ... I don't know what comparison to use. The stereotypes were just killing me in this Chesapeake Bay Saga. Starting with the food: all they ate was pizza, meatball subway, lasagna and pasta. Budweiser. Period. They swear, they are gentle, they’re rough and they like their steaks blue rare. And they are all mind loosingly good looking. Like, properly good looking, like you would jump on them straight away. Like a nymphomaniac on a fly.

CAMERON, the oldest adopted brother is speedy, sexy, hands under skirt type of guy, been racing and likes speed, who met stunningly gorgeous almond shaped eye Anna, the Italian social worker. These two are fire, and they remain fire until the end. But, when I was reading their dialogues, it was so predictable. Why do you do that Nora Roberts? New York Times best seller countless times. You? The cats are meowing, sorry, I need to feed them.

Second brother ETHAN is an introverted fisherman, barely speaks, only hangs out with his boat and dog and is in love with Grace, first neighbor, who is sweet and good and peachy peach. PHILLIP, third brother, is an Armani wearing punk, falls in love with BA, MA, PhD psychologist Sybill, who was fucked up, but came to her senses. And the fourth brother SETH, with his upper DC class girlfriend Drusilla. And Seth is like - new Jackson Pollock.

And then Roberts tries to be smart as hell, and she starts writing about Seth's paintings. Because, you know, he’s seen the world. Rome, Cork and Paris. Wow, did you really? Did you really Seth?! Is world really THAT big? Will you tell me about your paintings? Weeeeell, if you wanna know sugar, I’ll tell ya all. When in Rome you’ll call every woman bella and you’ll paint Spanish steps, because you know, when in Rome.... In Paris you’ll paint Eiffel tower, because you know, c’est la vie. And of course in Ireland, all colors are green, and people there are happy, happy happiness all around me people, who only think and talk about leprechauns and they search for lucky shamrocks, because Irish are all ‘away with the fairies’.

And then when you get bored with travelling, you’ll paint a man and his boat aka presenting character's inner disturbances (never seen that coming!), wheat fields during the summer and a little girl with a red balloon in it, and if you are in a special mood, you’ll paint the love of your life, covered with just rose petals. Really Seth, red roses, my favourite flowers are red roses. You just outwit yourself in originality. Let me grab you another Bud and pizza with all the toppings.

Before the reread I had thought that this was one of the series where NR did not have anything supernatural, but I had forgotten that Ray shows up to talk to each of his boys. I do think it could be just general grief hallucinations, if you wanted to read it that way, because he doesn't give any information to advance the plot, he basically shows up to tell his boys he's proud of them and they should stick together.

Oh, I loved this. It was just the perfect combination of everything for me at just the right time.

I have to start off by saying, Sea Swept was not as good as I had imagined. Not to mention a few people had recommend that I read this book, so I was thinking it was going to be worth my time. Probably my favorite of Ms. Roberts' trilogies, possibly because I grew up at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, my ancestors came from the Eastern Shore, and so much of what she describes about life on the water rings true. Let me start out by saying that I am not a huge Nora Roberts fan. I know she is one of the queens of romance, so I'm in the minority, but I usually just do not connect with her stories. Sea Swept is definitely an exception to that rule!

While the female characters are invariably intelligent, beautiful and maintain equal partnerships with men, Roberts is especially adept at writing male characters that are both strong and vulnerable. Nora Roberts’ books have class, sophistication and honorable characters.
And I mean the exact opposite of everything I’ve said.

I absolutely hated his sleezy behavior. He likes “mindless, no-strings sex,” and at the very beginning of the book he’s with this woman who has an accent and speaks quite crudely. He’s calling her sugar and baby and kisses her for the paparazzi, and he had trouble remembering her name. Way to start off a romance book with him about to have sex with someone else.

The Chesapeake Bay Saga's first book made me run for a shovel - and a pickaxe while I was at it - to just speed through the damn shell and find the delicious goodies inside! I dare say the Quinns proved to be one of my favorite teams, right there on the top with the Calhoun women and the wedding planners of Vows - and I've only read the first book!

Raymond Quinn and his wife, Stella, were never able to give birth to children of their own. But life never leaves good people like them high and dry. The two of them raised three boys with loads of problems into fine young men, each with his dream career in success. And now, eight years after Stella's defeat to cancer, Ray's boys are summoned back for a testament to their faith in family bonds. Ray is dying - and fast - but he's not about to leave the new boy he's taken under his wing out on the streets. No, instead he makes his older sons promise to take care of the boy. And once a Quinn gives his word, you can rest assured that he'll keep it.

Cameron Quinn was the first to be taken into the Quinn household as a teen. He had just escaped his alcoholic, abusive father, and was trying to steal Stella's car when Ray caught him red-handed.
“He'd done as he'd pleased and even had often enjoyed long runs of luck where he hadn't been caught. But the luckiest moment of his life had been being caught.”
Ever since then, he found a home, a family. And now that Ray's death bed wish was for Seth to be taken care of, Cam is willing to put aside his worldwide career in races - no matter how much it pains him to do so - to play nanny for the kid. He doesn't want the system to be playing with his father's new son, though he can only cooperate when Anna Spinelli, Seth's caseworker, is even more stubborn than he is. Anna on her part is willing to fight with all she's got to make sure that Seth is where he truly belongs, but the Quinn brothers - the oldest especially - are really not making her job any easier.

I was used to the female dynamics in Roberts's books by now. But a male team? Well, that was new - and lovelier than I ever thought! It's not so much that Ray's boys are easy to the eye - though it does have its perks. It was more for the fact that they are men - bound to solve almost everything with their fists and with shitloads of swearing at each other, and incapable of even caring for themselves, let alone a kid. The awkwardness was every bit hilarious and adorable. The knew they had to be more careful, and yet they still had their testosterone to defend. They all saw Seth as a brother, though - even if only Cam was able to show it better at first (and by his clumsy efforts, this says a lot). The way they got to involve him later in the story was so cute, and when they defended him in the VP's office I was about to squeal like a fan girl. Their fights seriously were funny as hell, to the point where I wished they had more, and often - Seth with his biting sarcasm, Cam with his fists, Ethan calming the others down by extreme measures, and Phillip acting like a freaking girl all the time!

Cam was...interesting as a character. The whole Alpha male attitude made him look like a testosterone-blinded jerk most of the times, and his thoughts of staying at home as being caged was kinda irritating. But he was the one who was trying the most with Seth, and when he was so worried after stopping Seth's free fall from the roof, it was like he was another person. Just like Anna suspected, he had so much love to give, but held it all in. In a way, he was like an elder version of Seth. I think bonding did both of them good. And the way he was delighted when Anna was hurling things at his head was adorable, and made me giddier than I had been when Mal proposed to Parker in Happy Ever After! Now Anna, as a social worker, was very devoted to her job, not just by duty, but because she wanted to help those kids. It was touching, really. The way she handled everything was to be admired. The only mistake I found in her methods was that she fell way too easily into Cam's way to kiss him.

I'm anxious to pick up Ethan's story. I'm sure he and Grace - cause I'd bet my left hand on them ending up together - will make a cute couple.(less)

This has been my first REAL read in Portuguese and I have to say, it's been MUCH easier than I expected!! I started off writing down all of the cognates that exist between the two languages that have made it so easy for me, but there were so many it was interrupting my enjoyment of the book.

Not my Favorite Nora Roberts book, but definitely a good story. I have read almost all her trilogy's except this older one and the current new one's she has out and can't say enough about her as an author. When I first started reading Nora I had picked up a 3 novel set, her Irish born series, and basically said "I wonder what all these people see in this author, I'm not going to go gaga over any author, especially a romance novelist!!" Eleanor Marie Robertson was born on October 10, 1950 in Silver Spring, Maryland, USA. She was the youngest of the five children, also the only girl, of a marriage with Irish ancestors. Her family were avid readers, so books were always important in her life. She attended a Catholic school and credits the nuns with instilling in her a sense of discipline. During her sophomore year in high school, she transferred to a local public school, where she met Ronald Aufdem-Brinke, her future first husband.

In Augusy 17, 1968, as soon as she had graduated from High School, Eleanor married, against her parents' wishes. The marriage settled in Keedysville, Maryland. Her husband worked at his father's sheet-metal business before joining her parents in their lighting company. While, she worked briefly as a legal secretary. "I could type fast but couldn't spell, I was the worst legal secretary ever," she says now. After their sons, Dan and Jason, were born she stayed home. Calling this her "Earth Mother" years, she spent much of her time doing crafts, including ceramics and sewing her children's clothes. The marriage ended separating, and they obtained the divorce in January 1985.

In February 1979, a blizzard in forced her hand to try another creative outlet. She was snowed in with a three and six year old with no kindergarten respite in sight and a dwindling supply of chocolate. During the now famous blizzard, she pulled out a pencil and notebook and began to write down one of those stories. It was there that a career was born. Several manuscripts and rejections later, her first book, Irish Thoroughbred, was published by Silhouette in 1981 as Nora Roberts, a shortened form of her birth name Eleanor Marie Robertson, because she assumed that all authors had pen names.

Eleanor wrote under the pseudonym Jill March a story for a magazine titled "Melodies of Love".

Eleanor met her second husband, Bruce Wilder, when she hired him to build bookshelves. They were married in July 1985. Her husband owns and operates a bookstore in Boonsboro, Maryland called "Turn the Page Books". Since that time, they've expanded their home, traveled the world.

In 1992, she decided adopted other pseudonym so to publish a futuristic-suspense novels, she first decided to use the pseudonym D.J. MacGregor, but she discovered that this pseudonym was used by another author. In 1995, her first "In Death" serial novel was published under the pseudonym J.D. Robb, the initials "J.D." were taken from her sons, Jason and Dan, while "Robb" is a shortened form of Roberts.

Eleanor has also been known as Sara Hardesty, because when the "Born In" series was released in U.K. it carried that name instead of Nora Roberts. She has since changed publishers.

Eleanor has been plagiarized by another best-selling romance writer, Janet Dailey. The practice came to light after a reader read Nora Roberts' "Sweet Revenge" and Janet Dailey's "Notorious" back-to-back; she noticed several similarities and posted the comparable passages on the Internet. Calling the plagiarism "mind rape," Eleanor sued Janet Daily. In 1997, Janet, admitted to repeatedly plagiarizing from Nora Roberts' work, and that both "Aspen Gold" and "Notorious" lifted heavily from Nora Roberts's work. Both of those novels were pulled from print after Janet's admission. She acknowledged the plagiarism and blamed it on a psychological disorder. In a settlement, Janet paid Eleanor an undisclosed sum, which Eleanor donated to the Literacy Volunteers of America.

A founding member of the Romance Writers of America (R.W.A.), she was the first inductee in the organization's Hall of Fame. She also is a member of several writers groups and has won countless awards from her colleagues and the (less)
