This book was just meh. Once again, the heroine has three days to figure out what the rest of her life will be like. I liked the first book better. Yes, Drake was also a rather overbearing male, but at least he was a little more honest with Helen than Paul was with Andra. It's ironic that Paul was disgusted with Drake for not explaining to Helen what she was getting herself in to. Of course, looking back, he probably said those things out of jealousy and anger that he couldn't bond with Helen. W...more

I really liked the idea behind Butcher's Sentinels that powerful warriors who are nobly suffering to protect the world, are suddenly given the hope a of mate who not only offers relief from pain but who can fight along side him with an awesome power fueled by their union. This second book in the series follows Paul, who we met briefly in the Burning Alive. Paul is a warrior close to losing his soul and desparate to find another woman with whom he can bond before it's too late. He finds his poten...more

I am reading Sentinel Wars as a group read in my Paranormal Romance With a Kick group on Goodreads. I have to be honest here and say, if it wasn’t for this group read I probably wouldn’t be continuing with the series. It’s not that I hate it, it’s actually pretty good. For some reason I’m just not connecting with the book.

Things I like:

I think the concept is awesome. The world she’s created is interesting and unique.
I love the male characters. So far, in both the first and second book I love th...more

Second in the Sentinel Wars paranormal romance series revolving around several races banding together in an uneasy alliance to prevent the Synestryn from taking over the world and breaching the gate.

My Take
OK, you know it's really bad when you're hoping the good guys lose. I struggled through this installment almost praying the bad guys would win. 'Cause the good guys are too stupid for words.

Supposedly the Sanguinar (vampires) have allied with the Sentinels. In reality, they're biding their ti...more

This book was better paced than the one before it. An odd case of the second book being better than the first. The only reason I made it to the second book at all was because I enjoyed her previous books before starting this series, but this series was worrying me.

The reason it still receives only 3 stars are the major flaws with the story. Too many characters in one book with such an odd variety of names that the characters starts to seem jumbled together. Unlike most authors, Butcher does not...more

I really like the world building and evolving storyline in this series and the ensemble cast of varied Sentinels and their foes. Each instalment is as much the continuing saga of the Sentinels and their war against the demon Synestryn race as it is about the featured couple and this is the type of series i really like. In Finding the Lost Theronai Paul must convince the fiery Adra Madison to become his although she seems more interested in freeing her sister Nika from the nightmares an encounter...more

While the first in this series was refreshingly different installation in paranormal urban romance for me to score it high despite some flaws, this second one did not live up to my expectations.

Which is frustrating, because I totally wanted to like the second in the series. You see, the problem is that the detailed IDEA of the demon Synestryn and the different races; Sanguinar, Sentinel, Slayers, who fight them is really well developed and intriguing.

The story of Andra, who specializes in findin...more

Finished today & I liked the 1st book better.

I really didn't connect completely with Andra/Paul. I felt more/was intrigued by Nika/Madoc.

IMO, book 2 should have been Zach/Lexi's book. There wasn't enough info give in book #1 regarding Paul. Didn't endear him as a character vs. Zach/Lexi. I do understand that this opened lots of story lines for the author but the result was meh.

This is book two in the Sentinel Wars series where Theronai Paul finds his lady/lifeline, Andra. Andra doesn't know she is a Theronai and in fact we find out more about that bloodline. Andra has been fighting the Synestryns and rescuing the children they have been kidnapping. Much like the first book we find that Andra has only three days to come to terms with her new found heritage and choose to be with Paul for...more

Great read! Book 2 in the PNR series of the Sentinel Wars. Logan [a Sanguinar from book 1:] has had a taste of Helen's blood [heroine/book 1:] and uses that to track down our heroine who is [somehow:] related. Our hero, Paul [also introduced in book 1:], finds his fated mate in the middle of a battle with the Synestryn monsters who have kidnapped a child. The child is saved, both from the monsters AND from the trauma of the attack. This gives Andra hope that maybe her sister who was traumatized...more

They are Sentinels. Three races descended from ancient guardians of mankind, each possessing unique abilities in battle to protect humanity against their eternal foes: the Synestryn.
Andrea Madison knows all about the Synestryn monsters, they attacked her family over 8 years ago killing her mother and her baby sister and damaging her other sister Nika. Now Andrea devotes herself to finding children stolen by the Synestryn. Andrea is on the track of a little boy who’s been stolen by the Synestryn...more

I'm devouring this series at record speeds. From a woman who looks at writing from an engineering standpoint, she sure does build a great book!

From Booklist: Ever since horrible monsters called the Synestryn murdered her mother, kidnapped her youngest sister, and drove her other sister to madness, Andra Madison has rescued other children they have taken. One night, while attempting a rescue in a deserted warehouse, she is outmatched until three seemingly human men show up and dispatch the monste...more

This book was actually better than I anticipated. I think maybe I was overdosed on the whole "you were fated to be my mate...now just bow down and submit to my dominance" type of PNR. Sometimes some PNR kind of feels almost abusive with the whole male dominance, and the heroine just needs to shut up and accept her fate ala Christine Feehan.

I was a little rusty on the world building for this series since it has been a while since I read the first one, Burning Alive. Basically this series is abou...more

I liked this book even better than the 1st book,Burning Alive.
Andra, the heroine rescues lost children, those kidnapped by the Synestryn. She knows about them because they murdered her mother, took away her youngest sister and drove her other sister insane several years ago. She feels guilty because she couldn't stop any of it from happening. But it wasn't until 3 strange men helped her rescue Sammy,a young boy, from the Synestryn that she found out about the Sentinels-the 'good guys'. And when they...more

For such a strong kick ass character that Andra started out to be in the start of the book. She came across very self conscious with little self esteem in by the end of the book.
Paul who needs Andra to stay alive just can't come out and tell her the score. That whole pride thing getting in the way. She was raised human if you don't tell her you will die in a few days why would she stay with you she has no idea what she symbolizes to him. I found his inability to just tell her the truth frustrat...more

This book is story of Andra and Paul. Andra natural talent to find a kidnapped little children. She know synestryn, because she and her family was attacked eight years ago. The mother killed the younger sister has been kidnapped, the elder sister has been damaged and has been a nurturing institution. Andra has been the main aim is to help her sister, Nika, who was tormented nightmares. Logan and Paul promises to Andra, cure her sister, if she go with them. But it's not that simple. Andra Madison has been fighting monsters since she was little. Eight years ago, they murdered her family. Now she specializes in finding children who have been kidnapped by the same monsters that kidnapped her youngest sister and murdered her mom that horrible night. These monsters are called the called the Synestryn. When she gets a call about a little boy who has been taken, she has no option but to say yes to trying to find him. This is my 2nd Shannon Butcher book and while I liked the first one better, she's definitely holding my interest in her Sentinel Wars series. I hovered between 3 and 4 stars just for that reason. I like her twist to the plot device of "fate" as matchmaker. I like the world she's built. One of begrudged trust and dependency, evil just on the other side of the wall, and proud warriors waiting lifetimes for their one chance at relief, love.

There is a lot going on is this story, and often times with...more

Paul is a Theronai who is just about to give up hope of ever finding his mate, even though he knows from Drake and Helen that there is a slight possibility that someone is out there for him. He is bending the rules to search for her and comes across Andra Madison, whose mission in life is searching for abducted children who have been taken by the Synestryn. The two of them join forces and her special abilities become essential when the Sybil is kidnapped from the compound but their relationship...more

Slightly better than the first entry in this series but just by a hair. At least the heroine in this one wasn't a mewling idiot. She had more backbone. But the hero is pretty much the same as the one from "Burning Alive" the beat my chest over the top macho type. "I am Tarzan, you Jane" and you have no say in the matter. This formula gets a little annoying to the reader in my opinion to the point where you want to kick the guy in the behind. Even though Butcher tries to make him a sympathetic ch...more

This one was actually closer to 2 stars, but I bumped it up to 3 because I liked the secondary character's stories and enjoyed the progression of the overall series story arc. I found this highly disappointing after completely loving the first book in the series. I did not care for either the H (he was whiny--and nothing is worse than a whiny HERO!) or the h (who was just mostly distracted and feeling sorry for herself throughout the book) and didn't believe their HEA. The action was slow to non...more

Book 2 of the Sentinel Wars and one of my guilty pleasures. I love my Kindle because I can read a romance book like this without everyone seeing me reading a book with a half naked guy on the cover. LOL Anyway, the world that Shannon Butcher has created is fleshed out more in this book and I enjoyed that. The romance wasn't as annoying as in the first book but the sex scenes weren't as hot either. The only major drawback is that she is placing a ton of plot threads and only expanding on 2 or 3 p...more

I really enjoyed enjoyed this book. It was full of action and kept you wanting to read more. I really like how this series focuses on several characters while building the central love story and at the same time setting up the next book in the series. Andra and Paul are two great characters and I enjoyed seeing them working together to save Andra's sister and at the same time introducing Andra to Paul's world and family. This book was definitely my favorite so far and I did love the first one. I...more

This is was an ok series for me until I got to book 4 then it seemed to pick up. Enjoy the story line; it’s not the usual vamp/were/demons. The characters and the plot are good. The heroine's tended to get on my nerves a bit, but once they finally realize their fate is actually positive rather than negative they redeem themselves. The first 3 books just took too long to get to where the story was leading. This is a new author for me. Glad that I stayed with this one because bk 4 was good and I'm...more

I have to say that it is a HUGE relief to like this book. HUGE. I love her husbands books and I adored her first book and like the other two in that military based series ok, but LOVE YOU TO DEATH scared the bejesus out of me. Maybe its just that I'm not a fan of having the heebeejeebies, but I couldn't even finish that one.

Thank being said, I liked this book a lot although I wish that the hero had a little more personality and the heroine a little less. I got the idea that she was really overw...more

More revelations, but yet more questions.

I liked this sequel about as much as I liked book 1, though this is mostly due to the things that were going separately from Paul and Andra. I did really enjoy some of the moments between them, but they both kept pissing me off. Some of the drama between them feels a bit contrived because both were unwilling to speak up and fully disclose what was going on with them because (view spoiler)[Paul didn't want Andra to stay with him out of obligation and Andra...more

“Hi." Paul said from her couch, flooding her system with adrenaline. He'd kicked off his shoes and was lounging there as if he had the right to be in her home. "I let myself in. You left the balcony door open." Andrea stopped in her tracks and it took a few seconds to find her tongue. "I never leave my doors unlocked or open." she paused, "and we are three stories up.” 2 people liked it
