Along the way we find that it is the most unlikely trio. A vampire and two Sentential. The vampire in this story seems gorgeous, yet more magical and scary all at the same time; with the ability to sense the enemy heal and create invisibility. Logan helps Paul track down Andra and just in the nick of time. We also learn the secret of one of the sentential warriors that is very intriguing to me, it kinda makes the two main characters take a back seat for me.

Paul and Andra have both been through trauma of the heart. One has lost all but one family member and the other has lost one of the only other person that would seal his fate as to whether he lived or died in pain and alone. I could defiantly say I was a little upset with Andra for making light of the gift that is essentially given of the heart. I would say she pretty much threw water on the flames. Not only threw water but she also seems to be way too anxious and a little one track minded about her main goal. I really like Paul and I'm glad he is a patient man considering time is running out on him at a fast pace. He can put up with a lot of her pushy have to have my way attitude.

Although I can understand her desperation. Andra reminds me of a lot of women, (including myself at one point). Her desperation to protect her family at all cost and to help others even if it costs her. She is definitely a strong female character. I really like that, but at some point in the book you start to think that she is thick in the head.

Paul is sexy and intense with his feelings toward her and there is no denying his want of her. I just like the idea of these alpha male characters. The tree tattoo is very unique and the idea of having to be with your soul mate to be able to wield the power they each have is a perfect way to be in a union. I wish these men really were real. To have an orgasm just by touch alone, man.

This book has one of the best fore-play and sex scenes written. I think my eyeballs were stuck to the pages hanging on to each sentence and word. Which is something I always enjoy between the two main characters especially when it is in perfect sync with their story.

I have bought into this series hook line and sinker. I will be getting caught up on this series and reading the next installment.

It's an excellent read!(less)

This book was just meh. Once again, the heroine has three days to figure out what the rest of her life will be like. I liked the first book better. Yes, Drake was also a rather overbearing male, but at least he was a little more honest with Helen than Paul was with Andra. It's ironic that Paul was disgusted with Drake for not explaining to Helen what she was getting herself in to. Review:
A good sequel with some excellent action scenes and interesting detail added to the world building. However, the romance is weak with the hero and heroine lacking the chemistry and intensity of connection that characterized the couple in the first book.

Paul and Andra’s relationship fails to resonate perhaps because each is preoccupied with their own problems – Paul with his need to find a compatible mate and keep her once he has, and Andra with her overwhelming desire to save her sister.

Neither character is completely sympathetic. Even though Andra is attracted to Paul on a physical level, she remains distant and aloof. She initially comes across as strong-willed and self-confident, but devolves as the story progresses and becomes insecure and hesitant to love because she feels that her failures make her undeserving. Similarly, Paul is never completely honest with Andra and the impression you get from him is that any woman would suffice to fulfill his requirements. Furthermore, the idea that he would force Andra to be with him against her will is repellent.

In terms of the plot, Butcher has created a fascinating world with a multitude of layers and several interlocking storylines. The writing is fast-paced and interspersed with hints of events to come. One of the best aspects of the book is the inclusion of compelling secondary characters, especially Madoc and Nika, who are a far more appealing couple than Paul and Andra. I look forward to reading their book as well as that of the other couple from book one – Zach and Lexi.(less)

I am reading Sentinel Wars as a group read in my Paranormal Romance With a Kick group on Goodreads. I have to be honest here and say, if it wasn’t for this group read I probably wouldn’t be continuing with the series. It’s not that I hate it, it’s actually pretty good. For some reason I’m just not connecting with the book.

This book was better paced than the one before it. An odd case of the second book being better than the first. The only reason I made it to the second book at all was because I enjoyed her previous books before starting this series, but this series was worrying me.

The reason it still receives only 3 stars are the major flaws with the story. Too many characters in one book with such an odd variety of names that the characters starts to seem jumbled together. Unlike most authors, Butcher does not...more

I really like the world building and evolving storyline in this series and the ensemble cast of varied Sentinels and their foes. Each instalment is as much the continuing saga of the Sentinels and their war against the demon Synestryn race as it is about the featured couple and this is the type of series i really like. Which is frustrating, because I totally wanted to like the second in the series. You see, the problem is that the detailed IDEA of the demon Synestryn and the different races; Sanguinar, Sentinel, Slayers, who fight them is really well developed and intriguing.

The story of Andra, who specializes in finding "lost" children (who are really being kidnapped by Synestryn demons) and Paul, a Sentinel warrior looking for the woman who can save him by accepting his magic necklace and stored power, is a good set-up.

I love how Andra is really, really strong and proactive. I love the face that the relationships between Paul and his other Sentinel buddies isn't all buddy-buddy.

However, the story doesn't stay focused on Andra and Paul, it goes off into other POV's of other couples and a too-short glimpse of the big bad. Each of those other stories could be a whole novel-length story (and probably will be in later sequels) but while interesting, the short glimpse only ends up being frustrating for me as it interrupted Paul and Andra's story without giving me enough to want to follow the other story.

This also serves to highlight the main trouble with Andra and Paul, mainly that in the latter part of the book the obstacle for them getting together is Andra's feelings of failure related to how she couldn't save her sisters from the Synestryn long ago. And despite her many successes since, and her overall badass attitude, she doesn't want to commit to Paul because she is afraid she might fail him? Really?

It didn't quite ring true to me.

So while it was an entertaining read in an intriguingly developed world, my frustration at how the multiple storylines were handled as well as wanting more of a real conflict for the love interests may overshadow whether I'll pick up the next in the series.

It's a toss up.

This Book's Food Designation Rating: A bag of Gardetto's snack mix because of all the interesting bits and pieces of the story that after a while begin to make you tired of juggling it all so that you reach into the bag and try to snag just the rye toasts and pretzels that you love the best.(less)

Finished today & I liked the 1st book better.

I really didn't connect completely with Andra/Paul. I felt more/was intrigued by Nika/Madoc.

IMO, book 2 should have been Zach/Lexi's book. There wasn't enough info give in book #1 regarding Paul. Didn't endear him as a character vs. Zach/Lexi. I do understand that this opened lots of story lines for the author but the result was meh.

This is book two in the Sentinel Wars series where Theronai Paul finds his lady/lifeline, Andra. Andra doesn't know she is a Theronai and in fact we find out more about that bloodline. Andra has been fighting the Synestryns and rescuing the children they have been kidnapping. Much like the first book we find that Andra has only three days to come to terms with her new found heritage and choose to be with Paul for the rest of their lives before the Luceria solidifies into a solid color.

In book one we find out that the Theronai along with the other races are dying but the Theronai a lot faster than the others. Theronai women are rare as they were all killed but two. Theronai men are walking energy balls with no outlet resulting in their having to live in constant pain and their souls to burn out. Theronai women find their life partner and in turn absorb/release their man's energy/power. Together they fight the Synestryn, evil creatures who feed on everything and love destruction. In Burning Alive (book 1), we met Paul at Helen's welcoming ceremony. Paul was compatible with Helen and he lashed out at Drake for not telling Helen the truth about the fact that she could have picked any man who was compatible with her. Paul felt like Drake was being selfish and didn't give Helen a chance to save someone else.

In this book, Finding the Lost, Paul finds his life partner Andra. The irony is that Paul nearly forces his will on Andra in order to make her his... kind of a raping of the will if you will. Andra didn't think she could have forever with someone. Her priorities were other ones besides a relationship. She also felt like a failure because of some of the battles she had fought and lost with the Synestryn. Because of this she keeps rejecting Paul. I get that Theronai men are all a bit desperate at this point but it was hard to see this huge shift in Paul's thoughts and how he handled the situation especially after he brought on the big to do with Drake.

I found it harder to buy into Paul and Andra's love. Heck I found it hard to buy into Andra. I kept picturing her as one butchy heroine and I just couldn't get comfortable with her at all...
She definitely took this whole new world in stride and that was cool. She also told Gilda off a bit which was even better because Gilda needs to be checked sometimes.

I think one of the things I likes most about this book was that we get introduced to Nikka, Andra's sister. Nikka was attacked by Synestryn and her blood was tasted by them. Nikka lives a very tortured life because she has a symbiotic relationship with these vile creatures. Nikka is in an asylum but is probably the most informed and sane person of all these people now. She can see and feel the Synestryn, knowing their every move and she is a bit psychic as well.

Right from the start this book didn't disappoint in that from the first page you found action. REALLY do love this about this author. She doesn't build up, she throws you in head first. I like how more and more unfolds but I have to say that something is definitely irking me... The author leaves huge cliffhangers and doesn't wrap them up. This is only the second book so I will take this all back if she proves me wrong BUT she left big cliffhangers in book one and now in this book too and I'm left with too many questions and way confused.

I don't know... I just think way to many questions were left unanswered in this book and with the third book focusing on Zach and Lexie, which I know will open a whole bunch of other cans of worms, I just don't see how the author will wrap up all these other loose ends.

Alas, I will go on to the next one because if nothing else...I'm hooked and definitely want to see where this all leads.

By the end of Finding The Lost I was ready to really kick Andrea’s ass and knock some much needed sense into her. I thought she was an amazing heroine at the start of Finding The Lost. She was gutsy and determined to do whatever she needed to protect the innocent children the Synestryn stole. Even though she was scared she still fought hard to kill the Synestryn and take the lost child back to his parents. But then the rest of Finding The Lost was about Andrea trying to care for her ‘ill’ sister Nika who was badly hurt by the Synestryn 8 years ago and trying to resist Paul. She’s so determined not to have anything to do with Paul that he goes out to kill himself because he doesn’t want to live without his soul and Andrea refuses to be with him to save his soul or for any other reason.

By the time Andrea comes to her senses that she loves Paul, wants to be a family with him and doesn’t want to lose him, he’s already gone off to kill himself. And were near the end of the book!

If it wasn’t for the extra character’s in this book, I really would have given it a much lower rating.
I really loved the start of, I’m hoping, something with Madoc and Nika. Especially the end of Finding The Lost where Nika leaves her body and lies next to someone! I’m really hoping it’s Madoc and that she manages to survive and get stronger.
We’re also introduced to Torr and Grace. Torr was injured when he and a few other of the Theronai warriors saved Grace and her brother and he was stabbed in his spine with poison, now he’s paralysed. There seems to be something between the two of them and I’m hoping this will progress into something.
And I still really dislike Gilda.

This book was actually better than I anticipated. I think maybe I was overdosed on the whole "you were fated to be my mate...now just bow down and submit to my dominance" type of PNR. Sometimes some PNR kind of feels almost abusive with the whole male dominance, and the heroine just needs to shut up and accept her fate ala Christine Feehan.

I was a little rusty on the world building for this series since it has been a while since I read the first one, Burning Alive. Basically this series is about the Sentinels which are 3 different races of warriors which guard mankind from the Synestryn which are the hideously ugly demons who want to enslave mankind.

The hero, Paul is a sentinel living on borrowed time. He needs to find a blooded woman who is compatible with him who will wear his lucera and take his overload of magic. So he makes a deal with Logan, a sanguinar who can track blooded women.

Enter the heroine, Andra. She has a pyschic gift that enables her to find lost children,those stolen by the Synestryn. Paul finally tracks her down while she is retrieving such a child. At first he doesn't think she's a match for him as nothing really happens when he touches her but he determines that he will keep her safe because she could be a match for one of his brethren. Cue anguish and torment and let the games begin.

Anyway this book was pretty good. The heroine has an actual personality and isn't a doormat for an alpha warrior. The hero is alpha don't get me wrong but, he isn't a knuckle-dragger either. The plot is pretty good and the storyline moved along at a good pace. They fell in love in a matter of like 4 days or something like that which is a little quick to be believable, but it had some decent emotional build-up in that Paul didn't want Andra to be swayed to stay with him by the fact that he will die if she chooses to leave him, so he chooses to leave her in the dark about a number of things surrounding his people. She also doesn't reveal a number of issues she has surrounding the trauma of loosing her mother and one sister to a Synestryn attack that in turn drove her other sister insane. I will say I thought this heroine was much better than the heroine of the first book, Helen who to me just kind of wrung her hands and did pretty much whatever she was told.

Overall I liked it and would recommend it. This book wasn't earth-shattering, but I didn't throw it against the wall in disgust so I guess you could say it wasn't wall-shattering either.(less)

I liked this book even better than the 1st book,Burning Alive.

For such a strong kick ass character that Andra started out to be in the start of the book. She came across very self conscious with little self esteem in by the end of the book.
Paul who needs Andra to stay alive just can't come out and tell her the score. That whole pride thing getting in the way. She was raised human if you don't tell her you will die in a few days why would she stay with you she has no idea what she symbolizes to him. Finding the Lost is the second installment in The Sentinel Wars series by Shannon K. Butcher and a very entertaining read! Paul and Andra have an explosive chemistry together that just comes off the page. While I certainly liked the main characters, I felt that Nika and Madoc absolutely stole the story for me. Nika is Andra's sister and she has been suffering in a mental institution for eight years after being attacked by the Synestryn. Andra is willing to do anything, including traveling with strangers to find someone who supposedly might be able to help Nika. Madoc's a Sentinel warrior and he's holding a grave, dark secret from his brothers. He's full of anger and just plain pissed off and I really, really hope he gets his own book because I really want to read more about him, same with Nika. The ending was a great cliff hanger and I can't wait to read the next book in this series! I really enjoyed reading Finding the Lost, it's a fast-paced story with great action scenes and lots of hot romance.(less)

This is my 2nd Shannon Butcher book and while I liked the first one better, she's definitely holding my interest in her Sentinel Wars series. I hovered between 3 and 4 stars just for that reason. I like her twist to the plot device of "fate" as matchmaker. I like the world she's built. One of begrudged trust and dependency, evil just on the other side of the wall, and proud warriors waiting lifetimes for their one chance at relief, love.

Slightly better than the first entry in this series but just by a hair. At least the heroine in this one wasn't a mewling idiot. She had more backbone. But the hero is pretty much the same as the one from "Burning Alive" the beat my chest over the top macho type. "I am Tarzan, you Jane" and you have no say in the matter. This one was actually closer to 2 stars, but I bumped it up to 3 because I liked the secondary character's stories and enjoyed the progression of the overall series story arc. I found this highly disappointing after completely loving the first book in the series. Book 2 of the Sentinel Wars and one of my guilty pleasures. I love my Kindle because I can read a romance book like this without everyone seeing me reading a book with a half naked guy on the cover. LOL Anyway, the world that Shannon Butcher has created is fleshed out more in this book and I enjoyed that. I really enjoyed enjoyed this book. It was full of action and kept you wanting to read more. I really like how this series focuses on several characters while building the central love story and at the same time setting up the next book in the series. Andra and Paul are two great characters and I enjoyed seeing them working together to save Andra's sister and at the same time introducing Andra to Paul's world and family. This is was an ok series for me until I got to book 4 then it seemed to pick up. Enjoy the story line; it’s not the usual vamp/were/demons. The characters and the plot are good. I have to say that it is a HUGE relief to like this book. HUGE. I love her husbands books and I adored her first book and like the other two in that military based series ok, but LOVE YOU TO DEATH scared the bejesus out of me. Maybe its just that I'm not a fan of having the heebeejeebies, but I couldn't even finish that one.

I liked this sequel about as much as I liked book 1, though this is mostly due to the things that were going separately from Paul and Andra. I did really enjoy some of the moments between them, but they both kept pissing me off. I liked this sequel about as much as I liked book 1, though this is mostly due to the things that were going separately from Paul and Andra. I did really enjoy some of the moments between them, but they both kept pissing me off. Some of the drama between them feels a bit contrived because both were unwilling to speak up and fully disclose what was going on with them because (view spoiler). That kind of thing is so frustrating. Some communication could have solved a lot of their relationship issues. Yes, I know they've only just met and opening up to someone you just met isn't the normal thing to do, but in this situation, once your feelings are involved you should open up and say something. I kept wanting to smack them for being so stupid about this. Not everything was bad with them. I, too, loved that scene in the grass. They obviously cared about each other, they were just a bit stupid about the way they handled the situation. I did absolutely love that scene (view spoiler).

I agree with Magda and T about feeling that Zach and Lexi's book should have come before this one since we already had a connection to those characters, but I'm wondering if it was done this way so that outside information could be revealed that wouldn't have been able to be revealed had Andra and Nika not been introduced when they were.

What I'm mostly talking about here (and the things that I found were the most interesting/important) are: (view spoiler)

My other favorite parts were Nika and Madoc, too. I don't think knowing they are Katya's favorite couple in the series influenced that. They're just damned interesting. I can't wait to read their book. I love the way Madoc talks to her. He cares, but he's so rough with his words and so careful with his actions. Totally love him.

And then of course, there are the Sanguinar with their continued secrets. (view spoiler) The way the Theronai treat them gets old, too. They're Sentinels as well, they just can't seem to fight. It'd be nice if the Theronai were more willing to help the Sanguinar regain their strength, but now, it seems too late considering the secrets the Sanguinar have been keeping and the way they've manipulating the Theronai. But Gilda is working with them, too and I bet they'd be pissed with her for it. Whatever it is they're up to seem to be benefiting the Sanguinar, but is it helping any one else? They do seem to help with finding these mysterious Theronai women, but it seems to help the Sanguinar as much as it does the Theronai. They are trying to keep their race from dying, so I'm trying not to hold Tynan's and Logan's manipulations against them. It just seems to me that the Theronai, Sanguinar and Slayers need to have a big sit down and actually communicate and maybe all these secrets and hatred could be done away with. They all seem to be screwing themselves just as much as they are helping themselves.

All in all, this is a pretty strong sequel. I'll certainly be reading the next book, but I don't know if I'm looking forward to dealing with Lexi and her issues. They've gotten on my nerves since book 1 when she started running from Zach and after that (view spoiler). I understand her mother told her some crap about the Sentinels and Lexi truly believes whatever she said to be true, but damn! I want to hurt her already, so I'm not really looking forward to reading a book with her as the focus.(less)
