OMG !!! I loved this book so much that I ranted about it for DAYS !!! After a surprise read from another series (Brenda Joyce's Masters of Time) I have been completely obsessed with all things Highlander. Whenever I get a book in the mail, my hubby will look at me as if to say "So babe, what is it? Vampire? Werewolf" and then after seeing the look of giddiness and me almost SWOON, he adds, "Oohhh Highlander". I'm a big fan of Lynsay's Argeneau Vampires series (I own them all) and have loved her...more

Book 3 in the Devil of the Highlands series

Lady Averill Mortagne is a red-haired, apparently not-so-beautiful English woman (though it's a bit unclear throughout the book), who spends her life reading and nursing the sick back to health. Her father, desperate to get her married, has tried every trick in the book, parading her in front of many snotty English lords - howeve...more

Its about Averill and Kade. Kade is Marys brother which Mary was in the previous book Taming the Highland Bride. Previous before that one is the Devil of the Highlands.
I love these books by Lynsay Sands as they are humours, witty, fun to read and you cant forget the passion.
This one was about Averill thinking she wasn't pretty enough to ever find a husband when her brother returns with an unconscious man. Having heard all of the mans tales she starts to fall in love with him. Liking what she see...more

This the third book in Sands Devil of the Highlands series. And I thoroughly enjoyed it, liking it so much better than the second (I have yet to read the first). One of the things I liked about it the most was the story itself, and how Sands kept you guessing until the end who was behind the attempts on Kade. I also like Averille's and Kade's characters, and couldn't stop laughing at their misfortunes. As with her other series books, I liked revisiting characters from the previous book, and the...more

This was probably my favorite of the series, though it only beat the first by a hair. I was absolutely enthralled by the characters and I actually enjoyed seeing them get past their insecurities. Usually I get annoyed when a beautiful woman thinks she's ugly and worthless, but in this case it was done so tastefully that I actually enjoyed it.

Kade and Averill don't have as much personal baggage as Cullen/Edeline and Alexander/Merry though they have plenty of problems. Someone is trying very hard...more

Much better than books #1 and 2. It was simply more entertaining, had a better whodunit with a few plot twists and an overall more effective premise. There were even parts near/at the climax that made me sit up and pay better attention and I remember saying in my head, "Yes! Now this is good." So this one is much improved from the former.

Averill's inexperience is quite charming. The circumstances that keep Kade and Averill apart were well executed without making the story drag on or become t...more

I missed the second book in this series, and I'm actually pretty disappointed. As with the first book, this was fast paced, funny, with enough twists to keep you going. Again, there was a bit of a mystery going throughout, but I honestly had no clue until toward the end. The motivation given at the end though was unexpected, and the action that followed kept me hating to put the book down until the very end.

I was definitely pleased with this book and will be going on a hunt for the one that I m...more

I wanted to love this one, but I was thrown out of the story every single time that they called each other husband and wife instead of by their names. Once in a while is ok, but oh, that got on my nerves.

I did enjoy the little running gag that every time Kade tried to make love to Averill, they were interrupted, either by an attack on Kade or by someone happening upon them. Although I wondered why they didn't just do it at night in their own bed?

The whole second half of the book didn't hold my...more

Tepid. Kade wants to bed his wife but something keeps stopping him, she goes around doing things without telling him (because she thinks she knows better than everyone else). (view spoiler)[Somehow, poisoning your in-laws immediately after meeting them (even if you think it's for their own good aka curing alcoholism) and hiding the knowledge that a brother-in-law is a rapist, abuser and potential murderer doesn't strike me as admirable traits, but then I'm no historical romance heroine. The 3rd book of the series hopefully not the last :) I enjoyed this series. The books are funny especially the smexy parts which is so funny and hilarious. I pity the hero a bit ;)The h/h is good together, their characters is a somewhat combination of the book 1 and book 2. I noticed from these books all the heroines are healers. Although it is alright I have no objection from that. The twist part of the story it is a bit rushed and somewhat not that connected to the story. It is shallow in comp...more

Hellion and the Highlander was my favourite of Lynsay Sand's medieval Highland series. There was just something so heartwarming when the talkative Lady Averill nurses the gravely injured Kade back to health.

Lady Averill has red hair and in the English medieval times, red hair superstitiously meant that the person had a devil temper. Couple that with the strawberry birthmark on Averill's cheek, she was turned down for marriage q...more

My second Lynsay Sands novel. It was highly entertaining, well written, funny, GREAT love scenes.
I didn't like 'The Deed' as much as this one. The novels have stuff in common such as both heros have a secret or surprise at the ending(view spoiler)[The hero from The Deed wasn't drinking the brew the heroine made to make him want to have sex with her--but he really did want to be with her and her brew had nothing to do with it. In The Hellion and The Highlander- We find out in the ending that, The...more

Reading this made me realize how hard it must be to write a heroine who is both strong, gusty and independent yet a product of her times. In this novel, our heroine is beautiful and smart but is made into a self-conscious stammerer by stupid superstitions that say anyone with red hair or a mark on their face is in cahoots with the Devil. Kids wouldn't play with her when she was growing up, well, no one but her older brother, and now an adult she's being paraded in front of suitor after suitor on...more

Kade gets to know her true self and falls for her. When his vision returns, he hides it from her so that she will continue to be herself. To have a man like Kade Stewart would be awesome. A wounded warrior who was brought to the Mortagne house by Will Mortagne only to fall in love with Will's sister Averill. Averill is known as someone who is ugly, but to Kade she is someone who is beautiful inside and out. When married Kade and Averill find themselves on a wild adventure, between someone trying to kill Kade, and rebuilding Stewart land from the destruction of Kades family.

This book was by far my favorite of the series, if only for the complete gut busting funny moments. Averill attempting to pleasure her husband while having no knowledge of what exactly she should do was enough to have me rolling on the floor. It seemed this book was a comedy of errors, one thing after another happening. And while there were some serious spots I did enjoy the lightheartedness. Once again Lynsay Sands blows me away with her storytelling and making me fall in love with these charac...more

Okay, I love Highlander novels and I have to say this one was not my fav. I like Lynsay Sands vampire series, but I think that is as far as it goes for me. This story is about Kade, a Highlander who ends up falling in love with an English lady who takes care of him while he is healing. It is a great story idea, but the execution of it just lost me. I felt it was a little too drawn out. There was a lot of this and that, but it wasn't really necessary for me to understand the story. I think I have...more

The third installment of this series features Kade, the brother of Merry whom she feared was lost to the Crusades, and Averill, the sister of Kade's best friend Will. They fall in love after she nurses him back to health, and they must endure several attempts on Kade's life. They must solve this mystery as well as try to return Stewart Castle to its former glory. I loved the action of the plot, and my favorite side character was Laddie; he was so sweet.

The book was not amazing but good. I would say a pleasant read and it had cute things to like about the book. The level of smut was nice too. The character were enjoyable and plot solid. I guess it was a nice and safe read. Also the book gave me some very good laughs and giggles. I liked the book, did not fall in love with it but I liked it and respect it.

Loved it...from the first page, to the last and every pages in between!

Kade, imprisoned for 3 yrs, decided to escape when his cousin, Ian, fallen ill and would have died. Barely survived and under the care of his friend who was also imprisoned, Will, and his sister, Averill, he's determined to take over the lairdship of Steward from his druken father. Averill was raised with such low self-esteem, red hair, birth mark, stammering and a temper of a hellion, yup a total package that had Kade...more

This was the third book in the series and I really enjoyed them all. I love historical highlander romance and Lynsay Sands does a great job with it. She also brings humor into them all. My only issue is this was the 3rd book in a row where someone was trying to kill either the hero or heroine. It felt a little redundant. I still really enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed this third book in the highlander series. It was a bit more on the romance then mystery side which is fine. However I felt that the ending was a bit rushed. Some people like that the answer just pops out of no where, but I think it would of been better if there was any sign of suspicion on the culprit before Kade confronts that person. BUT that's really my only complaint I really enjoyed it.

A little more fun than the previous (not as many misunderstandings to get by and Averill has some real-world problems). The villain sorta showed up out of the blue.

And Evie and Cullen showed up again (Sands could easily do more than three books just from the single male side characters in these books - Tavis, Comyn, Ian, Will, etc.)

“Husband?" Averill's voice was growing shrill with worry as she asked, "Have you swooned?"
I'm a warrior, wife. Warriors do no' swoon," Kade growled, forcing away the faintness trying to lay claim to him.
Oh," she said, sounding doubtful. "It's just that your eyes were closed."
I was resting them," he snapped.
I see," she murmured, and for some reason that irritated the hell out of him.”
