I know as the creator of the Argeneau group I should love the books in the series more than anyone, but seriously this book was terrible. I even gave 2 stars because I liked the epilogue but I'm not sure if it even deserves that. Definitely the one I enjoyed the least in the whole series.

First, there is no romance at all. They meet, realize they are mates and go straight to bed. That's all,really.REALLY! I was bored like hell most of the time. Had to put it down more than once, even read another...more

well, unlike most other reviewers, I was very disappointed in this book!

this felt like a short story, more then a full novel. so much was completely underdeveloped. for example,, our heroine, has six living children she birthed with the her first life mate of SIX HUNDRED WONDERFUL YEARS and yet we hear nothing about them, only of armand's three kids. (yes, this is HIS story, but she's his life mate, it's THEIR story). her previous life mate is mentioned briefly. big whoop.

Great series but this one wasn't one of my favorites

Part of the popular Argeneau series, 'Born to Bite' picks up where 'The Renegade Hunter' left off. Armand Argeneau's wives were killed under suspicious circumstances. His brother Lucien, a Council member, has opened an investigation. Eshe d'Aureaus, a Council enforcer, goes undercover to investigate. But to her suprise, she finds she can't read Armand and he cannot read her either--they are intended life mates.

I get the impression enforcers are chosen for their brawn and bravado rather than their brains...

When I read The Immortal Hunter, Eshe's brief appearance sparked my interest. She was forceful, confident and, as a rare female enforcer, she was someone I wanted to learn more about.

The two vampires are life mates or rather two immortals destined to be together. Finding a new life mate has many new overwhelming urges which are difficult to control. Eshe must focus not on her new life mate, but the case at hand. She must discover what really happened to these women if they are going to spend a happy life together. That is, unless Armand really is the killer?

Born to Bite picks up where the last Sands vampire book, The Renegade Hunter leaves offs but has quiet a different feel. You still have some of the characters fans now know and love, but the tone of this book is very different. These new lead characters are older, and more mature than previous novels. Eshe is the focused composed female with an unquestionable reserve of determination. She walks her own line, rarely inclined to follow orders. Armand is the quiet and calm type. He keeps to himself and tries not to cause trouble. For the most part, he doesn’t let his impulses take control. At least not until his life mate instincts kick in. Then both Eshe and Armand are lost in a whirlwind of new emotions. These characters are entertaining because they are opposites in almost every way, yet still perfect for each other.

The story isn’t all about action and adventure, yet the pace of the novel still moves quickly and seamlessly. It reintroduces the happy and fun loving vampire family Sands has created. There are many wonderful qualities to Lynsay’s characters. They are so genuine, so funny with such sparkling personalities you are always ensured a delightful read. And no matter what obstacles she throws in the way, there is always time for the characters to steam up a few of the pages!

This book has a great sense of humor and isn’t too dark. Lynsay has created her own unique brand of vampires that are funny more than they are scary. To new readers, the background is briefly mentioned in the first few chapters to get you up to speed and to avid fans this will be the umpteenth time we are reminded why they are what they are. The Argeneau immortals are part of a wonderful universe you will be delighted to learn more about. Born to Bite is a light and fun read for any paranormal fan. The book has danger, passion, mystery and will keep you intrigued from page one until the end. Sands book are like potato chips...once you read one, you have to come back for more. Born to Bite is just another example of why her books are highly addictive!

While this had some of the humor of the earlier books, it still wasn't as enjoyable as the first few in the series. It was a definite improvement over the Rogue Hunter books in the series though. And it was nice to see some of the earlier characters that I had fallen in love with, like Lucien and Bricker, who always made me laugh.

Lynsay Sands Book "Born To Bite"

“If you have not read any of Lynsay's Argeneau series, boy, you don't know what you are missing! Once again Lyndsay out does herself with “Born To Bite.” This book is fantastic with lots of action and drama, and very steamy sex. Lynsay never seems to amaze me with her style of writing, I always look forward to her books, and her coming together of life mates.

I was first introduced to Eshe in The Immortal Hunter. She was wild and rebellious, I liked her fire. Then, when she made her first appearence in Born to Bite, I saw that fire again, but it was quickly diminished as the story continued. I am not sure, if it was because of Armand, but he did have a tendency, to suck all the fun out of the book. I had a hard time believing, he was a member of the Argeneau family. While he might have been described as the most handsome, he lacked the charisma, that the men in the family had. In fact, he lacked substance and depth. Not to mention, I learned more about his dead lifemate and wives, than I did about him. I found it hard, to have any kind of emotional connection, with both Eshe and Armand. I felt that both characters were under developed. While, it was obvious, they had a connection being lifemates, I just didn't feel the sizzle or the romantic essence of the relationship. I also felt, the author should have utilized Eshes wild side, especially while visiting a small town. I can only begin to imagine, the fun she could have had with it. But, even the supporting characters came off a bit humdrum. The only saving grace was the appearance of Bricker. I loved Bricker's care free wit and charming personality.

I did think the plot was good. I was looking forward to the final revelation, as to who was behind all the murders and I wasn't disappointed. I even liked how the investigaton slowly progressed, as Eshe began to put the pieces of the puzzle together. What I didn't like, was how dense Armand seemed to be. I also didn't like, the fact that, the author didn't have the family more involved, especially considering, there were a couple private detectives in the family.

Overall, I really wanted to love this book, but this book felt out of place within the series. While the plot was good, the essence of family was missing. As I mentioned before, this series centered on members of the Argeneau family and not so much the plot. But, this book didn't. My joy in reading this series, had always been, how the family united when things got tough. I loved the charm, the wit, and the love that came, when they all connected. Sadly, I didn't feel that connection in this book. I couldn't seem to engage with the characters and I couldn't seem to feel the romantic tingle. I might have got my revelation with the murders and answeres to some lingering questions, but I didn't get my satisfaction with the wit and charm or the romantic love story, that I have come to love with this series. Hopefully, the next book will have the essence, of what I have come to believe, the series to be about.

Born to Bite is book thirteen in Argeneau series by Lynsay Sands; I have been following this series from beginning and I am not bored with it yet. I have to admit that each book becomes predictable but for some reason it really does not bother me, because I keep reading them.

OK -- This book had a little more to it than the others. We finally wrapped up the mysteries behind the Renegade Hunter series, which was a branch of the entire Argeneau series. I laughed, which is very typical of this series, but I'm giving it a 5 because I was touched at the end, not shedding any tears per se, but I did get a little choked up.

Although I don't see how the h/h would be able to fall in love with eachother, they weren't as annoyingle alike as the others. Even if only for the reason that both of them have had lifemates and were vampires for a long time already.

Still the Argeneau novels become more and more unbelievable – The livemate concept is just becoming boring, annoying even. And the more I think about the books the more they morph into one.

Another great read but wasn't initially excited for this one when I found it to be Armand`s story.

I loved Eshe, I just enjoyed her character and that she was a no nonsense type of girl who wasn't a at all a girly girl.

I did enjoy Armand`s character once I got to know him and learnt that he just wanted to do what's right and try to protect everyone he loved by keeping his distance away from family and relationships.

Armand Argeneau is the brother-in-law of Marguerite – she and her children were the focus of six of the ten Argeneau Family books, and she appears/is mentioned in the other four. It was good. It was not extraordinary but not awful either. I love the Argeneau Series, love most characters and am always waiting for the next story to come. This time Lynsay Sands gave us the story of Armand Argeneau (Nicholas and Thomas' father). For those who follow the series it was expected since the previous novel was about Nicholas and ended with the need to go after his father to clear up problems of the past.

Armand has a very weird record of becoming a widower through bizarre accidents, that wouldn't be suspicious if all his wives weren't immortals and really hard to kill. So his brother, Lucian, sent one of his enforcers to investigate what really happened to the women. Eshe is an old enforcer, experienced and daughter of a legend among the vampires. She's also Armand's life-mate and because of that, even if he's not the one responsible for the deaths, she might as well hang a target sign over her neck.

The plot was predictable and my first suspect turned out to be the culprit. Sad if you compare me, an almost thirty-year-old human reader, to the older than dirty absurdly experienced vampire investigators in the story. I also felt the romance wasn't as charming or hot as it usually is. It was not bad, but I know Sands does it better, after all I'm not her fan out of the blue.

Armand is the least charming Argeneau so far, he's apathetic, a little slow to catch up on things and though he might hold the physical appeal all Argeneau's do, he didn't do it for me.

Eshe is nice, I like her view on things and the way she faces life but she's not as wild as we're led to think at first sight (at The Immortal Hunter). I felt her potential was not well explored, she's first described as a tough, strong female enforcer with bizarre hair and intimidating presence but in her story she's just a regular heroine. Nice personality, sexually bold and somewhat clever.

As I said, it was good and just that. Definitely not my favorite in the series. It did sate my need to see their universe, as a novella would, and I'm expecting Hungry for You, the next installment, to be better.(less)

I actually liked this better than I expected. Unfortunately some of the best copy was in the last scenes so I can't quote them without giving away the mystery. I like spoilers but I am not that cruel.

Number 13 was anything but unlucky for the 13th installment of the Argeneau Vampire series from Ms. Sands. I have read every book in this series and after buying it two days ago, I hardly put it down until I was finished with it. I was glad to see the mystery of the dying wives / life mates finally solved.

1.) I started The Deed (my first romantic comedy and the first book to be published) a year after my mother's death. I was very close to my mother and the year following her death was about the most miserable time imaginable. But then I decided I was tired of being down and unhappy, and looked around for something to lift my spirits and make me laugh. When I couldn't find anything, I decided to sit down and write my own. It worked! Emmalene and Amaury's antics in The The Deed had me chuckling as I wrote.
2.) I met my husband in New York in July 2003. I was there because of the RWA conference and he was there on vacation. The first day there we kept running into each other and chatting in front of the hotel, and then he asked to join our group (it was very brave of him. He was the lone male amongst six or seven women, lol). He's a Brit and I'm Canadian and the first two months of our relationship were conducted by phone as well as over the internet. Our first date was a week in New York in September, followed by three weeks in England. He then came to Canada in both November and December, the first time to propose and the second time for Christmas with my family and then to take me back to England with him for New Years. I lived in Northern England for two years. We married in New York and now live in Canada.
3.) I was writing about my husband before I met him. Single White Vampire came out in September 2003 and I took a copy with me to England when I went for the three weeks. I walked into my now-hubby's house to find at least six months worth of mail unopened and stacked up on a shelf inside the front door. When I stopped dead, eyes going wide with shock and asked "My God. That's mail. You don't open your mail?" He looked embarrassed and muttered some explanation about bills automatically being paid by the bank so no need to open those and everything else was unsolicited and he couldn't be bothered. When I burst out laughing, he started to frown and said "What?" My response was to dig out the copy of Single White Vampire and hand it over with the suggestion he read it. The mail thing wasn't the only similarity he had to Lucern Argeneau. There are many more and when he sat down to read the book, he kept stopping and turning a rather startled and even suspicious gaze my way and muttering that this sounded familiar" or that did. I had to point out that it really was coincidence, that I had written that story at least nine months before meeting him. LOL.(less)
