I was a little surprised at the end when I realized that everything in StDoF had only occurred in four days; the mystery is solved, the bad guys captured, and of course, the h/h fall in love.
I'm usually sceptical about the chance of a real HEA if its founded on lust (no matter how hot) but I was mostly sold on Luke's and Shay's HEA. Why? Mainly because they both overcame their initial impressions of each other to actually understand the other person, and when they did, it was eviden...more

Shay Philips is awakened in the early morning hours after a night of heavy drinking after celebrating her twenty-sixth birthday with some friends. The new interim sheriff for Tenaja Falls is the one to rudely interrupt her sleep. Sheriff Luke Menza has a crime on his hands and because the victim in question was mauled by a lion, Shay comes recommended because she is a lion expert with the Department of Game and Fish. Shay maybe hung over and look like something the cat dragged in, but she takes ...more

I liked my first novel by Ms. Sorenson. There is a decent murder mystery with enough suspects to keep you guessing, sexual tension to keep you fanning your face, and a to-die-for hero, Luke. In my mind he was The Rock (specifically from the movie “Walking Tall”). The heroine was sassy, smart, sexy, and not TSTL--the perfect combination for my heroine.
The book bogged a bit, in my opinion with a secondary romance with the heroine 17 year old brother. It was done very well, but I wa...more

Well-done romantic suspense with the emphasis on romantic. The suspense plot was good, but took a back seat to the character development and the romantic relationships. (That's not a problem, just an FYI.) Ms. Sorenson handled the transitions between the four major characters well, and the book read smoothly. I didn't quite buy into the speed at which the relationship between the adult protagonists progressed (pretty much the entire book takes place over four days), but I can suspend disbelief f...more

Seemed more like a contemporary Romance then romantic suspense.
and the hero is sort of a jerk for a while. Most of the book really.
and there are teens having sex in this book...and said sex is fully described (à la typical romance novel sex scenes) Not bad mind you, and obviously a reality... I just hadn't come across that in a romance novel before, so I figured I'd mention it.
I didn't hate it, but there wasn't anything that really grabbed my attention either......more

3.5 stars. Pretty good, but I didn’t enjoy the relationship. He hurt her and denied his feelings. She pretended indifference.
STORY BRIEF:
As a detective in Las Vegas Luke made enemies of powerful casino groups. He decided to leave Las Vegas and took a temporary job as a sheriff in Southern California. A woman was killed by a mountain lion, and then someone moved her body to another location. Shay is a field research biologist working in the nearby State Preserve. She’s an ...more

After the wonderful surprise that was Crash into Me, this book was a huge disappointment. The pacing was slow, the plot boring, and the supposed chemistry between the two leads nonexistent. I didn’t like neither of them, Luke was a jerk, Shay was rather silly and too warped for my taste (for example, she dressed like a tramp and then resented people [Luke:] for thinking she was one).

Well-written romantic suspense. I enjoyed the story, but I didn't like the H. I don't like "I want you but I don't want to admit it" storylines, so I took a star off for that.
The suspense plot was good and character development was also good.

Not a great romance, but the story was great. Cougars, mysterious deaths, abandonment issues, danger and intrigue on the rez make for a good read.
I Love It! Reminds me of Linda Howard's style of writing. I have finally found another author I enjoy reading almost as much as Linda Howard.
Overall the story and characters were too messed up for my taste and I didn't like the heroine because of her behavior.
It's amazing what you can accomplish in four days... this romance unfolded in action-packed, rapid succession. While the mystery was a bit far-fetched, the characters were well drawn and interesting. An entertaining read.
4.25 out of 5
Sorenson creates families out of people who are drawn together through circumstances. Always readable and just the right level of scary for me.
3 1/2 actually. The book was good but definitely needed more pages. Some loose ends concerning secondary characters. The main plot was very good though. I can't wait to read Mz Sorenson's next book.
