""Was it murder or was it an accident? If it was murder, who was responsible? Whatever it was, what are they meant to do about it?"" Beaver's Brook Primary School is the subject of a justifiably scathing Ofsted inspection, which rips apart the school and its inhabitants, wrapping them in mystery and deceit. As an inspector is found dead in the staff room, the fragile lives ...more

Bryony Allen doesn't mess around for a single moment in "Mystery, Deceit and a School Inspector." Neither does she spare details.

Each paragraph is packed tight with Allen's razor-sharp feminine wit which draws (partly) from her own experiences as a teacher.
However, don't expect too many compliments to be made. From the outset, setting the scene for the novel Bryony Alles uses her detailed character-study sarcasm as she highlights the various cast's imperfections to hilarity. And judging by her

I thought I'd post an Amazon review I did of this book here since I'm in and out of Goodreads and needed to tidy up my book shelf here.
I got the novel as a gift for Xmas 2009 and personally really liked this book, parts of it made me chuckle, especially the part where the deputy-head teacher is described in great detail in the first chapters.
The book starts by setting the scene, the staff members are all introduced, each with their own particular mannerisms and I found the writer's use of wit

I suppose I ought to say at the outset that this is not my usual choice of reading material. However, saying that, I found it to be at times funny, interesting, surreal and engrossing. Bryony writes with a distinctive voice that captures the imagination and doesn't let go, managing to draw the reader into the slightly surreal world she is depicting. If this is a true, if somewhat embellished, depiction of a schoolteachers life then it is no wonder that its calle

Wow, my first thought after reading this book was how well written it was. It was a real page turner, we know that the author Bryony is a teacher too so this novel draws in from Allen's own experiences. Like I had said in my review of OTOLI which is also written by Allen, I am glad that the author had taken the time to contact because I wouldn't have experienced this great book.
To me, this wasn't just your ordinary mystery book, this was a mystery with some humour twisted into the story line an
