The Scorched Earth trilogy continues, with the team hot on the trail of Liz, who was kidnapped by her mysterious visitor in the previous volume. Here, they find the lair of Memnan Saa, helped along by clues from the dearly not quite departed Lobster Johnson. The action quickly moves to the tundra, where all hell breaks loose as Memnan Saa's forces (which are of course Tibetan monks who shapeshift into snow gorillas) must band together with the BPRD and the US military against an unexpected frog ...more
I seem to have skipped a volume, but it still wasn't hard to pick up the thread of the ongoing B.P.R.D. story. As a rule, I've not enjoyed the B.P.R.D. books as much as I do the regular Hellboy titles and some of the other spin-offs, but this volume was pretty darned solid. I especially like the way they've been working in the history of Lobster Johnson and Memnan Saa.

I loved the first Hellboy movie. I had a college friend who told me she had collected every Hellboy trade paperback. I began thinking, "Why don't I have any of these?" So began my journey to collecting all of the stuff published by Mignola and crew that had the B.P.R.D. and Hellboy brand. I've collected all of the trades and anxiously await each new collection that gets published. This volume of B.P.R.D. was a great read compared to the confusing recent Morrison JLA book I read. ...more
Well, it is no surprise that Mike Mignola and John Arcudi would give us another brilliant and strange paranormal adventure story, and it is also not surprising that Guy Davis would deliver more amazing art. His expressions, and compositions, pacing and story-telling is simply first rate. These three men with help from brilliant colorist Dave Stewart have really hit on something almost Beatle-esque in that the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts! All the previous books were stories within...more
I apparently started with a book that is not only late in the series, but is also the middle of a trilogy; so naturally I was a little bit confused. However that being said, there was still enough of a self-contained story in this volume for me to follow and not get totally annoyed. I really wish I had read previous volumes because the myths and story development behind this plot seemed extremely interesting. Other then that I kind of don't want to judge because as I said I was missing parts ...more
Lots of action in this one; they're obviously gearing up for something major involving the proto-human/frog gang. Which will be interesting, but...the volumes I always like the most are the quieter ones, dealing with the various characters' pasts and the ways in which they deal with those things now. Still, I'm definitely interested to see what sort of apocalypse goes down in the next book!
A number of things that I really enjoyed about this volume 1) the increased pace of the story telling 2) more Lobster Johnson 3) Liz's return 4) Abe and Johann 5) the (hopefully) nearing end of The Plague of Frogs

Drawback-cliffhanger ending
Only current comic book series I look forward to reading. This chapter is much more interesting than the last . I assume there will be a nice climax in the next chapter, which is the last of the current trilogy going on.

the second act of the Scorched Earth trilogy was certainly juicy, with great plotting and fun twists and turns.
The story is a step above Volume 10, with lots of big action and interesting character development. Dave Stewart's colors really bring life to Guy Davis' sketchy pencils, and the ending properly establishes awesomeness for Volume 12.

A lot of storylines finally come to a head here, with some interesting developments, most especially with Johann. I am really tired of the Liz-as-deus-ex-machina, though.
Damn you, cliffhanger!
This was weird.
